it's a Bauer start today, so Perez would normally be working anyway so we're not losing Gomes today

last season Perez couldn't hit a lick either until just about this time of year. Maybe he'll turn it on again.

when I noted last night that Ramirez is now tied for the league lead both in Homers and in Steals, I wondered when anyone last took both honors in the same season. A friend reported at breakfast this morning that he heard it announced that the last guy was one Ty Cobb in 1908. It sure would be neat if Jose wins both titles this year.

There are trades being made. What was the trading deadline all about? What is going to happen to Mcallister if nobody claims?

If nobody claims Zach we are forced to take him back and put him in the bullpen. No just kidding, if he no one claims Zach then he's a free agent and we can resign him or he can make a deal with anyone else now or in the offseason
I doubt his career is over; he wasn't very good this year but I'm sure some team could use him at a reduced price next year. He'd certainly be better for the Twins than Belisle, e.g. but why would they pay his current salary to work in the back of their bullpen?

Gotta be some work for a guy that throws 95-97.

I'm sure he'll be employed but not necessarily as his 2018 salary: $2,450,000

Thanks for the info CIV. I secretely hoped he would straighten himself out and possibly become a closer.

Isn't part of McA's problem that his stuff is too "straightened out' and he doesn't have a lot of movement on his fastball?

Yea but he started off this season working on the curve. main problem was opening the shoulder and the curve was supposed to help with that according to Willis, not everyone can hit 97. Look at Cody who does not typically throw as hard but has a good curve.

The way I looked at Zach, this was a guy who never lived up to his stuff.

They kept him around in low leverage situations the past few seasons hoping that stuff would translate into a higher level pitcher.

It never happened and when moved into a higher leverage role (albeit out of necessity) he did not perform. Time to move on - the team was more than patient.

When he was left off the post season roster last year, I assumed his days were numbered. DItto Otero. Both lasted longer than I anticipated.

Indians released RHP Zach McAllister.

McAllister was designated for assignment last week to open a roster spot for the return of Andrew Miller. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 4.97 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 41 2/3 innings this season with Cleveland.

Zach is probably just getting paid too much for them. Maybe he'll be out of work for the next month or two, and then will have to accept a reduced deal as a free agent in the off season.

I assume he cleared waivers. That means the Tribe is on the hook for the remainder of his salary. He's almost free to anyone that wants to sign him. They would only have to pay him the Major League minimum and the Tribe would pick up the rest.
