So I looked up Dietrich and he really does exist, but he plays for the Marlins so I have had no reason to run across him. HIs OPS for the four season have been 802 798 758 and 799 which are about "major league average" which is good enough for me compared to current collection. He strikes out more then 3 times more often than he walks which I don't like but the numbers add to pretty decent. He's younger than I thought I read, 29 next week.
He hits left handed and we have more need for RH but I'll take anyone who can hit and play CF [can he?] or RF. But he's described as a 2B, LF and 3B, so what good does he do us? [I see he has played 1 2/3 inning in RF, which is marginally better than none.

I see he was born in Cleveland. He attended St. Ignatius. Then he went to Georgia Tech and was a 2nd round pick. Which suggests he's a smart guy and has a good baseball pedigree. And would be happy to play in Cleveland. But not sure if he fits our gaps.

Mejia better figure it out.

He doesn't want to just a Major Leaguer but only a Major League catcher? Does he sulk and pout like one of my 12 year old Little League kids when I made them play the outfield?

If all he wants to do is catch, he's with the wrong organization. Could be the pout and sulk act is designed to get the Tribe to trade him.

Wouldn't bother me.

Well civ, for one just off the cuff, if he plays 3B we can move Jose Ramirez back to 2B where he belongs. And no, if you saw him you would know he can't play CF.

We played our best ball by far last year when Josey was at 2B.

Adam Jones to #Indians is among the viable trade possibilities as Baltimore and Cleveland continue dialogue on multiple players. Indians looking for a right-handed outfield bat. Jim Leyland raved about Jones’ leadership qualifies in @WBCBaseball. @MLBNetwork @MLB

While he has seen his production fall off a bit over the past two years, Jones has been one of the most reliable players in baseball for the better part of the last decade. He misses very few games and typically hits around .275 with 25-30 home runs. The 32-year-is hitting .275 this year with 10 homers and 33 RBI, which isn’t bad considering how horrible the Orioles have been as a team.

Though he is one of Baltimore’s most popular players, Jones is set to become a free agent after the season. If the Orioles can get prospects in return for him, it makes sense to trade him now while his value is still relatively high.

Mychal Givens - R - Orioles
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Indians have expressed interest in Orioles' right-hander Mychal Givens.

The Indians are currently said to be discussing several players with the Orioles, including Manny Machado and Adam Jones, and now Givens can be added to the list as well. The right-hander, who is under team control through the 2021 season, owns an underwhelming 4.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 55/23 K/BB ratio across 47 innings this season, but was one of the top relievers in the league in 2017.

My wife is traveling home to Detroit the last weekend of this month to visit family. I see the Indians are in town so I am tagging along. Ordered my tickets today. Behind visitors dugout. Woo hoo.

Staying at the MGM Casino downtown too, so should have a really nice long weekend, even if it is Detroit.

Mejia says "managing adjustments during the course of the game" is his big challenge as a catcher according to Morosi on FOX tonight.

Would seem to be an intangible a catcher has to get good at.

Amusing slice of a player poll:

10. Which manager, aside from your own, would you most want to play for?
Top result: Joe Maddon, Cubs (27.1% of the vote)

Runners-up: Terry Francona (18.6%), Torey Lovullo (10%), Bruce Bochy (7.1%)

Also receiving multiple votes: Aaron Boone, Dusty Baker, Dave Roberts, Alex Cora, Jim Leyland, Jeff Banister

Notes: As we are about to see, Joe Maddon elicits strong feelings from players. And compared to the rest of the popular choices, who are all veterans, it’s a strong showing from Torey Lovullo in only his second year as a manager.

11. Which manager, aside from your own, would you not want to play for?
Top result: Buck Showalter, Orioles (23.3% of the vote)

Runners-up: Joe Maddon (20%), Mike Matheny (10%), Mike Scioscia (10%)

Also receiving multiple votes: Jeff Banister, Gabe Kapler, Aaron Boone

Notes: For understandable reasons, many players wanted nothing to do with this question — particularly impending free agents. Still, among the dozens who did answer, Maddon came very close to topping both lists, which would have been quite a feat. (The polling was conducted before the Cardinals dismissed Matheny on Saturday night.)
