So I was watching MLB Tonight just now and John Hart talked about the Indians. I was pretty surprised that Hart thinks the Indians will be a player for....Manny Machado with Jose Ramirez sliding to 2B.
Damn can you imagine that lineup?

So Mejia was up for a day. Grabbed one day's pay at the Major minimum and got per diem meal money for being on the road. Hope that helps his pay-day loan situation he got himself into.

An advantage of having minor league teams close by.
So he was there simply in case something happened to Gomes during the day.

which would have added air miles [or bus miles] for other catchers in the farm system who returned to their previous assignments.

Bradley Zimmer - OF - Indians
Bradley Zimmer suffered a shoulder injury during batting practice on Wednesday for Triple-A Columbus.
Zimmer is expected to be out at least five days with the shoulder injury, and it could be more as he'll likely be reevaluated after that time frame. The 25-year-old was sent down to Columbus on June 5 after hitting just .226 over 114 plate appearances for the Indians. We may not see Zimmer back with Cleveland until after the All-Star break at this point.

Second baseman Scooter Gennett, batting .341 with 12 homers and a .928 OPS, figures to be the Reds’ most available player; the team’s top prospect, Nick Senzel, would replace him.
A couple of problems: Gennett’s xwOBA ranked only 150th in the majors through Tuesday, increasing the likelihood of regression, and teams are more apt to trade for position players during the off-season than they are at the deadline.
That said, the Indians, Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the contenders getting below-average production at second base. Gennett is earning $5.7 million this season, with one year of arbitration remaining before he becomes a free agent.

*Cleveland Indians. The bullpen, next-to-last in the majors in opponents’ OPS, is a greater need.
But the acquisition of a third baseman — be it Machado, Moustakas or the Toronto Blue Jays’ currently injured Josh Donaldson — would enable the Indians to move José Ramírez from third to second, where thanks to Jason Kipnis’ struggles they rank 26th in the majors in OPS.
The Indians’ top two relievers, Cody Allen and Andrew Miller, are potential free agents, as is left fielder Michael Brantley. The team’s window isn’t exactly closing, not with five core players — Ramírez, shortstop Francisco Lindor, first-base/DH Edwin Encarnacion and right-handers Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco — all under control through at least 2020. But this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Indians’ last World Series title. How much longer can they wait?

i'm beginning to think this is going to be like Moses and the Exodus from Egypt. The old generation had to all die out before the survivors could enter the promised land.

Probably. Allen is very good but could use some more seasoning. Davis can work in centerfield.
When or if Zimmer is ready to return, Naquin's role is reevaluated. But unlike Zimmer, Naquin can hit in the majors.

Either Allen or Zimmer will always remain on big league club this year. Tito just does not like Naquin's defense in CF.

He could use Davis in center while Zimmer mends. But not every day. Allen has totaled stopped hitting, 1 for his last 30.

Melky could not find a job this spring because most teams believed he was done. Took the Indians a couple of months and some bucks to come to the same conclusion.

Yes, Allen needs more seasoning. Not sure what the answer is. Zimmer is a mess too. And Davis shouldn't even be on the roster. Personally I would bring Naquin back and play him in CF but I know Tito won't.
