Re: General Discussion
9437Mejia has been getting a lot of time in the outfield. Don't know what they think of his defense out there, but he could be another alternative to Guyer.
Re: General Discussion
9438Gomes is going to catch 6 out of 7 games. Haase might give him a rest in a blowout. Otherwise he sits.
Mejia needs ABs.
Mejia needs ABs.
Re: General Discussion
9439I think that makes sense. It's one of those times when they promote the player with less long term value. they do that a lot with minor leaguers; sending nonprospects up to AAA, down to Lynchburg, back to Akron, while the serious prospects stay put until they've earned a promotion on merit.
Re: General Discussion
9440Well obviously if you bring a legit prospect up that wouldn’t be the case.
I’m saying let him catch a couple games a week like Perez would. Then let him DH a couple games a week. They sit Alonso against tough lefties anyway, and Mejia is a switch hitter. They give EE days off from time to time too.
So if they wanted to bring the good prospect up there would be at bats. But apparently they don’t want to yet, if report is true.

Re: General Discussion
9441"Yet" is of course the operative word. Now that he's getting his stroke back I would think he's best served by staying in AAA for now. We'll see him soon I hope.
Re: General Discussion
9443This is one time I am happy that his reporting was wrong!

#Indians call up No. 1 prospect Francisco Mejia from @CLBClippers & option Evan Marshall. Mejia is slashing .357/.357/.571 in June after hitting .189 in April-May. No. 11 on @MLB's Top 100
—
The Indians called up Francisco Mejia, who is the team's No. 1-ranked prospect and No. 11 overall according to MLB Pipeline, optioned right-hander Evan Marshall to Triple-A Columbus and released pitcher Matt Belisle from his Minor League contract on Monday.
Mejía, 22, has spent the entire season to date in Triple-A Columbus, batting .214 (41-for-192) with 9 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and 25 RBI in 50 games. Over his last 11 games since May 26 he has batted .350 (14/40) with 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR & 10 RBI, hitting safely in 10 of the contests. On the year he has appeared in 27 games behind the plate, 16 in left field and one in right field.

9444Cleveland Indians @Indians
Roster moves:
- C/OF Francisco Mejia called up from Triple-A Columbus
- RHP Evan Marshall optioned to Triple-A
To clarify, Roberto Perez has not been placed on the DL.
--
Actually the report was not wrong. No DL is needed for Perez, so they are bringing Mejia up just for a short term fill in and get a cup of coffee.
Had Perez needed the DL they were going to bring Haase up for long term case.

Re: General Discussion
9445Mejia could be a person of interest in a trade deal and the other team wants a look at the Major level.

Re: General Discussion
9448Watch this guy go on to tear it up:
Matt Belisle - R - Twins
Twins signed RHP Matt Belisle to a one-year contract.
This confirms reports from Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports and Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Belisle was pitching in Triple-A prior to being released by the Indians on Monday, but the plan calls for him to be immediately added to the Twins' bullpen.
The 38-year-old was a useful arm for the club last year, posting a 4.03 ERA and 54/22 K/BB ratio over 60 1/3 innings. He also notched nine saves. He'll likely be asked to pitch in middle relief this time around.

Re: General Discussion
9449CHICAGO (AP) — Cleveland Indians star reliever Andrew Miller is just about ready to start facing live batters.
Manager Terry Francona says the two-time All-Star had his “best” bullpen session Monday since he was placed on the 10-day disabled list in late May because of inflammation in his left knee. He will likely throw another one Wednesday and could start facing some hitters once the team opens a nine-game homestand on Friday.

Re: General Discussion
9450Perez does not need the DL and showed coaches he's ready to play. So Mejia was sent back to AAA today to make room for tonights starter, Plutko, who was recalled.
