#Indians acquired utility man Jon Berti from the Blue Jay's for cash. Berti will begin his Indians career in AAA Columbus.

The 28 year old Berti has played parts of 8 seasons in the Blue Jays organization since being drafted in the 18th Round of the 2011 draft. Berti has yet to see MLB action.

Maybe they picked him up to replace Urshela since soon Gio will have to be DFA'd or promoted.

In Spring ball Urshela was hitting decently. I would not give up on him yet. Plays a mean 3rd and quite a few utility positions.

Problem is Erik Gonzalez is out of options too. And he is more valuable. Can't lose him. If you bring Urshela up you'd have to lose one of the extra OF'ers or bullpen guys. (which Tito would never do)

I personally wouldn't mind dropping Davis, he's at the end of the line. Naquin could play CF in a pinch till we called someone up in event of injury to Zimmer. But God forbid Zim or Naquin ever face a lefty.

Indians have signed Melky Cabrera.

Indians signed OF Melky Cabrera to a minor league contract.

The news was first reported by Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital and confirmed by MLB.com's Jon Morosi. Cabrera, 33, batted .285/.324/.423 with 17 home runs and 85 RBI last season for the White Sox and Royals. He will need some time in the minors to knock the rust off but should be added to the Indians' roster sometime next month and see at-bats in right field.

That's a legit signing! Good outfield option, this guy can still hit if you look at those numbers.

Melky Cabrera will receive a $1 million salary in the majors as part of his minor league contract with the Indians.

The deal, which is pending a physical, carries $1 million in additional incentives and also includes an opt-out.

civ - who knows but.....this offseason was a nightmare for 30+ years old guys. There was a glut of them and most of them wanted multi year deals which teams were NOT giving out.

My opinion is that after a good 2017 season Melky wanted maybe 2 years MLB contract and teams offered him either minor league deals or 1 year deals so he balked (Bautista, etc did the same). At this point basically those guys are being forced to crawl back.

PS - our own Carlos Santana's agent proved genius when he signed VERY early in the winter before all the slowdown became crazy - because as the winter went on all the more it became a buyer market. Values plummeted.
