Jones had a nice start at Lynchburg but has hit a wall.
Please had a nice line tonight, but 5 walks.
Speaking of hitting a wall, Palacios at L.C. too.

Yankees designated RHP George Kontos for assignment.
The move will clear a roster spot for Luis Cessa. Acquired from the Indians for cash considerations at the beginning of August, Kontos appeared in just one game for the Yankees; throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings against the Mets on Monday. Assuming he goes unclaimed, he'll likely report back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a chance to rejoin the team at some point before the 2018 season finishes.

He pitched well for us and he was fine for the Yankees but no one wants him. He needs to take a hint, and wash his socks out after the game.

I think BA didn't bother reporting Wed games since there so many of them; all of our teams played and a couple played doubleheaders. I'd list some interesting stuff.
Here's one:
Rob Kaminsky has returned to Akron in the bullpen. Not sure if that's now considered his future role or just a way to ease his way back in. After a few rough outings he's been excellent. Last 12 games: 14 innings, 8 hits, 5 walks, 1 run, 14 K ERA 0.64 WHIP 0.93; even better in his last 7 games, 8 innings 3 hits 3 walks no runs 9 K.
Ernie Clement arrives in Akron for his third stop of the year and went 2-4 in his AA debut.
The two guys we got from the Cardinals for Capel and an AZL slugger both look terrible:
Mercado was 0-3 again and is hitting 110. Drury allowed 5 of everything in 3 2/3 innings and his combined ERA for us and then in AA is 5.86
Nolan Jones doubled in Lynchburg, where's he hitting 220 since his promotion. Everyone else in the lineup is 2-4 years older than him.
My long-forgotten "break out Hitter" of 2018 Austen Wade moved up to Lynchburg after he got off the DL. 2 for 4 yesterday, hitting 289.
STAR OF THE DAY:
Big Sam Hentges 6 1/3 innings 2 hits 0 run 2 walks 7 K. 3.27 ERA. After McKenzie, Sam and Oviedo and Civale in some order would be out next rated pitchers, excluding the promising but untested kids we drafted this year.
Speaking of whom, Lenny Torres putting a lot of guys on base [5 hits, 2 walks in 3 innings] but only 1 scored and he K'd 6 ERA 0.87
The Young Bear, Mike Garcia had been starting but relieved yesterday. He managed to record 6 strikeouts while only recording 5 outs: 1 2/3-2-0-0-1-6
Jonas Wyatt with his 2nd outing of the year and 4th of the past 3 years. Made through a whole inning this time, allowed 1 run and his ERA tumbled to 27.00
The kids in the desert:
Rocchio 1-4 354
Delgado 2-4 331
Y Diaz 1-3 double w 389
Jerez 2b #8 [along with his 11 homers] 265 Slugging 910
Marcos G 0-4
Naylor 0-3 walk
Jo Rod 0-4
Cardenas 2b 309
1B Micael Ramirez single and double for 4, 372
Up here in the Mah Valley,
C. Smith doubles and homered and singled in 8 AB in two games, 313, his 2nd homer; hit 000 Lake County after a month in Arizona
Freeman his 22nd double 374
Fermin 2nd hoer single 239 and a raft of walks
In Lake County
JC Mejia started with 4 scoreless innings, finished 6-5-3-2-2-5 2.67
Richie Palacios single 320
Oscar hitless 292
For Longo fans: 4-1-1-1 282
For Krauth fans: 1 2/3 1 0 0 0 4 2.15 84 K in 58 2/3 innings, 38 hits 13 walks

thanks; not sure I'll have time today. I read the boxes last night and am trying to remember what I saw. Mind does not retain well; visual aids help.
I know Mah Valley lost again. I know at least one Arizona team won. I discovered that Ramirez in Arizona is yet another catcher, hitting well into the 300's in his fairly limited playing time there. C Lavastida with a couple hits again. Naylor none and he botched a play at 3rd I believe. Oscar Gonzalez charged with his 11th OF error; he hits for average, for power, doesn't walk, doesn't steal, and must be of limited defensive ability. No one's perfect.

Baseball America asked the men with the best seats in the house to break down the best players in all 10 full-season minor leagues in a variety of categories. Managers, often with input from their coaching staffs, completed our best tools surveys in July.
here's the complete list of Indians prospects who made the list. There are no second and third place honors on these, so you're best or you're one of the rest:
Best defensive catcher: International League ERIC HAASE
Best manager prospect, Eastern League TONY MANSOLINO, Akron
Best Control: Carolina League: Tanner Tully
Best Defensive 3B, Midwest League: Nolan Jones [That's a pleasant surprise ]
[Justus Sheffield, best pitching prospect International League]
{Willi Castro, best defensie SS in the Eastern League]

Only winners on Friday were Columbus and Lake County. Some notes:
Bobby Bradley first AAA homer and 25th total for the season.
Mercado comes alive with a single, 2 walks and 2 steals
AAA relief: Henry Martinez is settling down, 1 perfect IP. ERA drops to 18.56
Ben Taylor perfect inning with a strikeout; 2.82. In Cleveland I assume for September
Civale continues to tank. 4 1/3 7 hits 4 runs 4.18. ERA in July: 7.61; In August 4.67
AA relief: Kaminsky 1 2/3 1 walk 1 strikeout ERA drops to 2.70 and to neglible after his first few games back
Lovergrove with one of those nights 1/3 0 2 2 4 0 When he loses it, he really loses it
Krieger with 3 hits; Calica and Tom each a single and a walk
Longo 8th homer and single, 286
Jones single and double, 234; 719 OPS
Eli Morgan continues to tank: 3 2/3 6 7 2 2 3.87. Last 7 starts: 31 1/3 44H 24 R 8 BB 24K 6.89
Juan Hillman was better than the above. 5 2/3 6 4 3 4 7 5.64
Robt Broom, one of the 2018 picks already in full season ball, 2 shutout innings, 1 hit, 2K 1.93 for the Captains
Will Benson with 2 hits a single and a double
Scrappers are falling apart, except for likely league MVP Tyler Freeman, 3 hits, one was his 23rd double [remember this is a short-season] 373
Arizonans lose 2 But some good hitting:
Marcos G single
Kwan single and 1st pro double
Delgado single
Korey Holland single, double, steal
Billy Wilson 14th steal
as usual, Rocchio with 2 hits, .364
and as hardly usual, in fact be prepared to fall out of your chair: Quentin Holmes appeared for the 2nd time this summer and is now 0-4 for the summer.

only 3 starters are named for today's 7 teams:
In ascending order of ERA for their current teams:
Kirk McCarty 0.00 after 1 start in Lynchburg; 4.08 overall; 1.91 over his 10 starts total; he and Eli Morgan would make a great "best ball" stat combo line
Tristan McKenzie, exactly 3.00 higher in Akron
Josh Tomlin exactly 3.00 higher still while with Columbus, which is just about exactly 1.00 lower than his fine work in the majors this year

Of side interest:
Twins optioned OF Johnny Field to Triple-A Rochester.
Field was claimed off waivers from the Indians earlier this month and was recalled on August 6, but he managed just one hit in 16 at-bats with the big club.

So McCarty, McKenize and McTomlin pitched up to their prior levels of success:
McCarty a 5-10 185 pound 22 year old Lefty went 7 innings 4 hits 1 run 0 walks 6 K ERA now 0.69
McKenzie 7 inches taller, 20 pounds lighter, 1 year younger, 1 level higher RH 6 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 8 K ERA now 2.86
Tomlin doesn't need any introduction 3 1/3 innings 5 singles 3 doubles 1 homer lucky only 3 runs no walks 3 k. ERA now 6.75. Fortunately the Indians will be getting their 9th inning blowout pitcher back in a couple weeks.

Hopefully they use Tomlin only in blowouts they are LOSING.
