I love the two draft pick IFs: Delgado, high school kid, in Arizona, and Palacios, college player in Mahoning Valley. Nearly identical performance.

Delgado's line: 405/468/571 OPS 1.039
Palacios' line: 391/468/562 OPS 1.030 [was even better during his few games in Arizona but that was warmup]

Yep, I noticed the Yandy homer and was pleased. I'd be ok with plenty of doubles and some triples.
Scrappers game report says Palacios has a 16 game streak, 18 of 19 with the Scrappers; 22 of 24 in his long career". He's also drawn walks in 8 of his last 11.

The draft picks are off to almost universal great starts featuring Palacios and Delgado at bat; and Scott, Sandlin, Royalty on the mound. Our top 3 are just getting started. A wee bit early to judge this draft but good signs!

BA used to add draft picks to the guys they highlight but not this year. Nothing interesting among these. Krieger and Mathias are reaching the typical end of the line for college 2B draft picks in AA. I'm hopeful that Palacios may break that mold?

Bobby Bradley, 1B, Indians. After an awful April, Bradley is back to hitting for power with low batting averages, which is pretty much the Bobby Bradley experience. Bradley went 3-for-5 yesterday with his 19th home run and a double.

I am startled at how terrific our short season teams are doing this year. Last year we had two of them and their records were unimpressive. This year we have to stock three teams and they have combined records of 51-27. Pitching and hitting; Latin players and draftees; are all excelling. It sure looks like a great foundation for a restocking of the big league club in the 4-6 years it takes to get kids through the farm system.

Delgado was the one draft choice the Indians paid significantly over slot [$900,000] and it sure looks a good move. He's hitting 418/500/567. All three of those numbers among the top in the AZL and the rest of the top several in each category are a 1 2 or 3 years older than him. His prospect report reads:

A switch-hitting shortstop committed to Florida International, Delgado intrigues scouts thanks to his impressive bat, power from both sides and more feel to hit from either side than many young switch-hitters show at the same age. He's already pretty physical, which allows him to hit for power in-game, and he's shown that pop at big events like USA Baseball's National High School Invitational in March. Defensively, he has smooth actions and impressive footwork that should give him a chance to stick at shortstop, but there are many scouts who believe his below-average speed will move him to another position, with third or second base being the most likely. He has the arm strength to handle third and his hands and footwork should be enough for second base as well. A team drafting him will be taking the bat though, with future plus power from both sides.

Indians have been shifting him around the infield and maybe he will wind up being yet another 2nd baseman. But I really like him.

Re: Minor Matters

When one or the other of us finds time, it would be worthwhile to go through the whole list of draft picks and post their current production. Now Naylor is at work and starting out just fine too with a couple days and a homer in his first 19 at bats.

As for all the kids from the International signings, there are a mass of them having good starts too, hitters Ruben Cardenas, Jhon Torres, Brayon Rocchio, Pablo Jiminez all with OPS over 800. Who are they? Who's legit? Pitches Ignazio Feliz, Yefferson Yannucci. and more.

Re: Minor Matters

8805
When I used to go to Spring Training in Winter Haven, I would go to the minor league offices and grab a list of all the players in the minor league camp. I would save this list and compare it to lists from year to year. First time I did it, I couldn't believe over 50% of the kids in the previous year's camp were gone.

Don't fall in love with players too soon. :)
