HIGHLIGHTS

Eli Morgan (SP, Lynchburg) - 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 4 SO - Morgan continues to amaze in his first full pro season. He now owns a 2.33 ERA over 46.1 innings of work with the Lynchburg Hillcats. He's allowed only two earned runs over his past 18.0 innings of work. The Lynchburg right also snapped a string of five consecutive games in which he issued at least one free pass. The righty continues to be stingy at hits are a luxury for the opposing offenses whenever they face Morgan. He's showing a lot of promise in a league where he faces the same opposition more frequently thus requiring him to have to make adjustments faster in order to succeed at the Class-A Advanced level.

Ernie Clement (SS, Lynchburg) - 5-5, 2 R, 1 2B - Clement has been a spark plug at the top of the Hillcats' lineup ever since his promotion. His five-hit game is a new career-best in his young career. He had slowed down a little bit at Lake County but a new level of competition seems to have sparked him back up as he has been on a complete tear at the plate. He's now compiled 17 hits in just 10 games at Class-A Advanced. He's been able to hit eight of the ten games he's played with Lynchburg.

THE REST

Jose Tena (2B, DSL Indians) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI - The second baseman now owns a six-game hitting streak. He has also compiled five consecutive multi-hit games during that span.

Jhonkensy Noel (1B, DSL Indians) - 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B - Noel was able to snap a four-game streak where he went hitless. It's just the fourth multi-game game for him this season.

Luis Peguero (RP, DSL Indians) - 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 SO - Monday's game was the first scoreless appearance Peguero has thrown all season. It was also just the second time he only one hit to the opposition.

Kirk McCarty (SP, Lake County) - 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 7 SO - McCarty was able to throw his best outing of the season on Monday. He's done a better job at limiting free passes as he's walked just one batter in his past four starts.

Tommy DeJuneas (RP, Lake County) - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 SO - DeJuneas was very sharp in his one inning of relief. He now has struck out 39 batters over 29.1 innings of relief.

Jesse Berardi (2B, Lake County) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 SO - Berardi has now strung together consecutive multi-hit games for the first time this season. He should see more playing time now that Clement has been promoted to Lynchburg.

Adam Wilk (SP, Columbus) - 7.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 7 SO - Monday's contest was Wilk's best outing of the season. The lone hit he gave up marked the fewest number of hits he's allowed in a game this season.

Ben Krauth (RP, Lynchburg) - 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 SO - The southpaw reliever has not allowed a run his last 10.0 innings of relief work. He's whiffed 13 batters in that span.

Mitch Longo (DH, Lynchburg) - 2-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI - Longo has hit in the past seven of eight games. It was the first time in the season he hit two doubles in the same game.

Anderson Polanco (RP, Lynchburg) - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 0 SO - The lefty has thrown four scoreless appearances in his past five games. He has fanned eight batters during that stretch.

Trenton Brooks (RF, Lynchburg) - 2-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SO - It was the first time in Brooks' career that he homered twice in a single game. He's now set a new career-high of three home runs in a season.

Dillon Persinger (2B, Lynchburg) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI - Persinger has now racked up two multi-hit games in his last four games. He's now compiled three home runs on the season which is already a career-high.

Greg Allen (CF, Columbus) - 2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SO - Allen has now extended his hitting streak to nine games. He is hitting .475/.533/.625 with three doubles, one home run, seven RBIs and four stolen bases over his past ten games.

Yandy Diaz (3B, Columbus) - 3-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SO - Diaz has hit in the last 15 of 17 games he's played in. He's got five multi-hit games over the course of his recent hot streak.

Drew Maggi (SS, Columbus) - 3-6, 2 R, 1 2B - Maggi now has a streak of three straight games in which he's recorded multi-hit performances. He's hitting .308 over his last ten games.

Eric Haase (DH, Columbus) - 2-5, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SO - The slugging catcher is now starting to heat up at the plate after a slow start to the season. He's compiled six hits over his last three games.

Jack Leathersich (RP, Columbus) - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO - The lefty has not allowed a run in the last three of four games he's pitched in. He's held batters to a mere .184 average over the last ten games.

Luke Eubank (RP, Columbus) - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO - Eubank was able to snap a string of four consecutive outings in which he gave up runs. He has had some control problems since his promotion to Columbus.

Bobby Bradley (1B, Akron) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI - Bradley has accumulated four multi-hit games over his last 11 games. He's also clobbered five home runs during the duration.

Jose Fermin (3B, Mahoning Valley) - 2-3, 2 R, 1 BB - Fermin continues to be a hitting machine. He's now hitting .355/.523/.387 over the past ten games with Mahoning Valley.

Tyler Freeman (SS, Mahoning Valley) - 3-4, 4 R, 1 3B - Freeman and Fermin have been an absolute terror at the plate as they continue to set the table for the rest of the lineup. Freeman is now hitting .512/.523/.605 over his last ten games.

Mitch Reeves (1B, Mahoning Valley) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SO - Reeves continues to be a good source of run production at the clean-up spot. He's one home run away from tying his career-high.

Clark Scolamiero (RF, Mahoning Valley) - 2-5, 4 RBI, 1 SO - Scolamiero has now hit in nine of the first 12 games he's played in to start the season. He also has hit six RBIs over the past two games.

Luis Santos (RP, Mahoning Valley) - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 3 SO - Santos has not allowed a run over the last 6.2 innings of work. He's struck out ten batters over that span.

Erick Algarin (RP, Mahoning Valley) - 1.0 IP, 1 SV, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO - Algarin has yet to allow a run to start the season. He's been perfect in save opportunities as he's three-for-three.

Yefferson Yannuzzi (SP, AZL Indians 1) - 4.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 6 SO - Yannuzzi continues to shine in the Arizona Rookie League. He now owns a 0.66 ERA through 13.2 innings of work.

Jake Miednik (RP, AZL Indians 1) - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 3 SO - Miednik has yet to allow a run in his first 10.0 innings of work. He has whiffed ten batters over his scoreless start to the season.

Henderson De Oleo (1B, AZL Indians 2) - 3-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB - De Oleo has now compiled four consecutive multi-hit games. He now has a new career-high in doubles hit during a season as he recorded his seventh double tonight which surpasses his previous career-high of six.

Jhon Torres (RF, AZL Indians 2) - 2-4, 2 RBI - Torres has now hit safely in eight consecutive games. He has racked up five multi-hit games over his recent hot streak in the early goings of the season.

Pablo Jimenez (DH, AZL Indians 2) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI - Jimenez recorded his first multi-hit game of the season. Prior to Monday's game he only had three hits in his first six games.

Wuilson Meza (RP, AZL Indians 2) - 1.0 IP, 1 SV, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 1 SO - Meza flirted with disaster but was able to knuckle down and pick up first save of the 2018 campaign. He's still plagued by control problems as he has issued at least one walk in every game he's pitched in this season.

Tribe Insider is not selective in who they highlight Like Adam Wilk Anyway here are some other notes

Clement is quite a singles hitter, he added his first double in 34 Lynchburg at bats. But I am not complaining

I like the top of the Mahoning Valley order; again the IF trio of Fermin, Freeman and Palacios led the way.
Fermin, 2 hits and a walk. Freeman two singles and a triple. Palacios a single and two walks.

McCarty is in the midst of a significant turnaround. In fact he has been reducing in half each month"
April 10.80 ERA 2.13 WHIP
May 5.29 ERA 1.52 WHIP
June/July 2.65 ERA 1.06 WHIP

Krauth's string of success was noted above.

Henderson De Oleo leads the Arizona League in doubles, slugging, total bases. After a couple terrible years as a teen in Dominican he did OK last summer in his 3rd try there: 263/410/451. As a 20 year old he's a little old for the Arizona League. Is he for real? Worth a promotion if he keeps it up for a month.

What a great day for me yesterday. Big news on International Signing front. Great news getting our second draft pick signed. Good night for some of my guys. Yandy, Allen, and Longo combined for 7 hits last night, and Morgan with another great start. And Luis Peguero had his first scoreless outing of the year -- out of the bullpen!!

By the way, we have another International signing or two coming later this summer. Guys who are not 16 quite yet but will be soon. For example Jose Baez, Jose Ramirez's little brother. Report is he and possible others will be announced on 8/30/18. Not sure why then or why that date is significant.

Paul Shuey II???

50 k's in 29 innings

James Karinchak | Rank: 23 (Preseason: NR)
Team: Lynchburg Hillcats (A Adv) ETA: 2020
Position: RHP Age: 22 DOB: 09/22/1995
Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6' 3" Weight: 230 lb.
Drafted: 2017, 9th (282) - CLE
Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 55 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45
It might not occur to people to think of Rhode Island as a baseball hotbed, but Bryant University has been a bit of a machine in terms of producing draftable talent. Karinchak became the 19th player in program history to be drafted in 2017, when, after ranking second among NCAA Division I hurlers with 13.7 strikeouts-per-nine innings, he became property of the Indians as a ninth-round pick. Making his full-season debut in 2018, Karinchak got off to a hot start with Class A Lake County and earned a promotion to Lynchburg in early May.

Karinchak shows a fastball up to 96 mph with a plus breaking ball at times. His velocity was more consistent in early 2018 after he dealt with shoulder soreness as a college junior. Karinchak knows how to spin his 12-to-6 breaking ball, a hammer with depth, and he creates good deception thanks to his high front side. He hides the ball well and typically throws with good angle and plane.

Karnichak's command also went in the wrong direction post-injury, although his strike-throwing ability is less of a concern in a bullpen role, where his fastball-curveball combo could help him jump on a fast track to the Majors as a reliever with swing-and-miss stuff.

BA on Holland:

A Texas signee, Holland has steadily improved himself as a player. As he's matured, he's gone from being an average runner to a plus runner and he shows solid feel for hitting thanks to quick hands and a fluid swing. He's shown very little power so far, but there are scouts who say they believe he will eventually grow into someone who can hit 10-15 home runs a year. His pro profile is still subject to much debate. His routes and reads need significant improvement if he's going to stay in center field. If he can't, his below-average arm limits him to left field, where his average hitting ability and present below-average power would limit him.
[Not especially impressive. $500,000 signing? Indians are great judges of outfielders we know]

And Kwan:

Kwan leads things off in Oregon State's potent lineup and has proven to be an on-base machine. He is a nightmare for opposing pitchers and is one of the toughest players to strike out in Division I baseball. After striking out around seven percent of the time through his first two seasons with the Beavers, Kwan has cut that rate to 4.8 percent in 2018, striking out just 12 times through his first 199 at-bats. His walk rate has done the exact opposite, shooting from under three percent during his freshman season to over 17 percent through his first 49 games this spring--even more impressive when considering Kwan's poor power. A rangy center fielder, Kwan has a slap-hitting approach, spraying the ball to all fields and getting on base with above-average speed. While there are questions regarding how his approach will pan out in pro ball, Kwan has hit well over .300 in each of his last two seasons at Oregon State and has a strong track record of hitting in wood-bat leagues. He hit .304/.381/.342 in 26 games in the Cape Cod League last summer. Because of his ability to play above-average defense in center field and his speed, Kwan projects as a fourth outfielder whose bat might be too light to ever make him a regular.
[Sounds like very good AA and probably AAA outfielder. ]
