Just an impression - the Mets organization is talking now about how they want to use their bullpen more next year and limit how long their starters (injury ridden) go.

Hmm..so the Mets are going to need some serious bullpen inning eaters to do this. Would it surprise us to see the Mets (Callaway) put in a call to Shaw's agent?

Seems like a fit.

Bruce and Santana will most likely receive relatively low-ball offers on short term deals from the Tribe.

I think the Tribe's attitude is "we're not going to break the bank for you guys". "Call us in the spring if you can't find a job".

Plenty of fish in the ocean.

Rather than begging people to come to Cleveland, as they did in the past, they can be a lot more selective....for a change.

Great post seagull!

Look, last year showed that often times sluggers don't get the contract they think they will. Our own Encarnacion, but also guys like Trumbo ended up signing very late for less.

Remember Chris Carter? From 41 homers to very late signing at $3.5 mill. then cut!

So Jay Bruce especially will have to wait out the market IMO. Santana perhaps but then again maybe his ties here will lead to both sides being reasonable. Not holding breath there but at least it's possible.

Thanks civ.

Hey, Hoynsie: With the Marlins appearing to be in a complete tear down, I think the Indians should be looking at their controllable and affordable outfielders, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna.

The only two true fulltime outfielders Cleveland has, Michael Brantley and Bradley Zimmer, are hurt, and there aren't any outfield prospects who will be ready any time soon. With some depth of pitching prospects and expendable position player prospects such as Yu Cheng-Chang and Bobby Bradley, do you think the Indians will make a move? -- David Bolger, Lakewood.

Hey, David: What, do you have something against Giancarlo Stanton and the $295 million the Marlins still owe him? Yeah, I'm kidding.

Depending on how serious Derek Jeter is about moving Ozuna and Yelich, I think the Indians would definitely look into that situation. Rumors have connected them to Ozuna over recent years.

Ozuna, a free agent in 2020, is coming off a big year in which he hit .312 (191-for-613) with 37 homers, 124 RBI and a .924 OPS. Yelich, a center fielder, is signed through 2021 and has $42 million left on his contract. He hit .282 (170-for-602) with 100 runs, 81 RBI and a .807 OPS in 2017.

If the Indians can't find a hitter to help them through free agency, a trade is the next step.

Jon Heyman reporting that he has talked to all agents involved and none of the 9 MLB players that were offered the 17+ mill qualifying offer is going to accept it.

That includes Carlos Santana, whose agent is going to meet with the Red Sox at the upcoming winter meeting, according to Nick Cafardo of the Globe.

HB - I was talking to a Red Sox fan yesterday and they are kicking the tire on ALL good hitters.

Thing is, all year the jury was out as to whether losing Big Papi would affect their lineup. Well, season is over and the jury is in.

Pretty much all hitters hit less than they did a year ago. We are talking Bogaerts, Betts, Hanley. The large presence of Papi was missed.

Hence they are also inquiring on Stanton too.
