Mejia hits a double to stay hot. And Greg Allen drilled a long no doubt home run. I think that's his first homer since the walk off in the 14th inning against Houston.

Freeman and Marcos G add to our deep pool of quality SS. Tradeable commodities or convertible to other spots.
Outfield is more doubtful. Long list of names, so some of them could come through biggishly. Allen and Zimmer of course in AAA. Calica in AA. Capel and Longo in High A. Benson and Gonzalez in Low A. Johnathan R in Arizona. Quentin Holmes unknown. They're all possible.

Tyler Krieger is not having much of a season for Akron 236/311/343 but he does occasionally get hits in bunches. His 4 hits yesterday were topped by a 5 for 5 day with 2 homers just over a week ago. He had been hitless in the 3 games preceding yesterday's. But still his stats for the past 10 games are:
41-7-16-8 3 doubles 3 homers 4 walks 7 strikeouts 3 steals in 3 tries 390/444/683

Some good pitching today. Oviedo just allowed his first hit and run in the 4th inning. He's also fanned 9. That gives him 24 K in 14 innings and 3 walks. 6-4 190 19 year old right hander.
Juan Hillman stringing back to back good starts together for the first time this year. He has 5 shutout innings with no walks and 6 strikeouts.
Zach Plesac with his best start in awhile. He has 8 strikeouts in 5 innings, 2 runs on 6 hits. His Carolina League ERA is 4.90. Was 2.25 in 3 Akron starts
McKenzie had 3 shutout innings, but surrendered a 3 run homer in the 4th.
Chiang the least effective of the starters, or was until the McK setback He's allowed 3 in 5 innings.

offensively, some good things going:
Freeman keeps hitting. 2 singles in 2 trips. 477.
Will Benson drew another walk and is now "hitting" 182
Ernie Clement at 455 after his promotion to Lynchburg; no hits in his first 3 ABs but drew his 2nd and 3rd walk as a Hillcat.
Connor Capel with 2 sac flies. Longo a single and a steal.
Calica with a couple singles and 16th steal.
Bobby Bradley is on one of those streaks. A 3 run homer and a double. Homer total up to 16. 4 in the last 4 games.
Mejia a single and a walk in his first 2 trips. Climbs over 270.
I discovered another hitter doing well for Columbus I'd totally lost track of: Mike Papi has his 14th double today. His average is a fine but not exciting 271. But adding in 32 walks in 185 trips to bat his OPS becomes a fine 401. And with 5 homers and the doubles, his SLG is 455. That makes an OPS of 856. Not worth disregarding. Maybe he gets himself onto to the 40 man roster this fall. Maybe he gets a look in Cleveland in September. He is another Lefty and we have a lot of them and he's not a CF and his power may not be what you look fall in RF. But we have kind of low standards for our OF crew

Bradley now tied for lead in homers for all of AA leagues.
Oviedo now leading all Short Season A pitchers in strikeouts [assuming the guys ahead of him aren't working and putting up big numbers today]

Oviedo finished with 12 strikeouts in 6 innings. 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk. That makes 27 K and 3 walks in 16 innings. ERA 0.56. WHIP 0.50. And he's top in strikeouts for all Short Season A pitchers. 19 year old moving into our top prospects.

Offense rules in the Arizona league. Team One was a 8-7 winner despite making 4 errors. Team Two lost 17-10 and made 5 errors.
Marcos Gonzalez removed for a pinch runner. Ruben Cardenas two doubles.
winner in relief 25th round pick Kellen Rholl with 2 1/3 shutout innings and 3 strikeouts.
Johnathan Rodriguez singled, walked as he typically does, and made his 2nd error in the OF.
For the 2's,
3B Jonathan Lopez 3 hits, [18 year old]
1B/DH Henderson DeOleo 6th double and 2nd homer. [20 year old] [leads the league by a margin of 2 in doubles; tied with many in HR lead]
RF Jhon Torres 2 doubles [18 year old]
SS Raynal Delgado single and 2 walks. [18 year old]
None of the pitchers escaped although the errors didn't exactly help

BA notes:
Ian Hamilton, RHP, White Sox. Looking for a sleeper relief prospect? Hamilton, an 11th round pick out of Washington State in 2016, has moved quickly and has a big arm. He pitched a perfect ninth for his second save since joining Triple-A Charlotte and he's now struck out six in 3.1 innings with the Knights.
CLE AA Bradley, Bobby 1B 5 1 2 3 .207 2B (12), HR (16)
CLE AA Castro, Willi SS 3 0 0 0 .255 BB (24)
CLE AA Krieger, Tyler LF 3 0 0 0 .236 BB (28) [4 hits 5 hits or no hits]

CLE AAA Allen, Greg CF 5 0 1 0 .282
CLE AAA Chang, Yu DH 3 0 0 0 .261
CLE AAA Mejia, Francisco C 3 1 3 1 .276 2B (16), HR (7), BB (16)
CLE HiA Capel, Conner CF 2 0 1 2 .271
CLE HiA Clement, Ernie SS 2 2 0 0 .350 2 BB (2)
CLE LoA Benson, Will RF 3 0 0 0 .182 BB (47) 3 hits for his last 45

CLE SS Freeman, Tyler DH 4 1 2 1 .457
CLE AA McKenzie, Triston 7.0 6 3 3 1 3 4.15 W (2-2) [the 3-run homer was his sole mistake]

Noticed Longo had his 10th steal last night. He's been more aggressive of late.
Mejia is on a friggin tear.

Oviedo's 12 K's in 6 innings last night was a Scrappers record.
I've learned my lesson about getting too excited about a pitcher too early, *cough* Garza & Feliz *cough* but this kid sure is a looker.

His stats were pretty rotten last year in Arizona, but BA rated him around No, 17 on our list which was the first I noticed him. Good K/IP mark last year and better this. Look trip from Niles to Cleveland -- well actually about 60 miles -- and I've got excited about Scrapper pitchers like Kelvin De La Cruz and Jeannmar Gomez but he sure offers some real promise.

Even with his crappy stats last year I still kept reading tweets from insiders saying watch out for this kid. Todd, the Indians Prospective guy, has been tooting his horn for the last year, for one.
I think insiders knew he had really nasty stuff and just had to put it together. Sure looks like he has started to do that.
