Brady lasted 6, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Mitch Brown doesn't want to prove me right [that's he ready for a breakthrough] suffered the loss with a run on a couple hits, ERA 1.19, record 1-3.

Andrew Calica, a Longo-type hitter with Akron, singled [.326] and stole a base [11th in 12 tries]. Doesn't walk too much. Hits doubles, not homers [11 of the former, 1 of the latter]

Jones is hitting more homers than I'd expect for Lake County; and getting his average up some, too.

here are the BA notes for Top 31 prospects in action Thursday:

CLE AA Bradley, Bobby 1B 3 1 1 1 .188 HR (9), BB (23)
CLE AA Castro, Willi PR-DH 0 1 0 0 .255
CLE AA Krieger, Tyler 2B 3 0 0 1 .199 [no future for him]
CLE AAA Chang, Yu SS 5 0 1 1 .273 2B (15)
CLE AAA Haase, Eric C 3 0 0 0 .211 2 BB (13) [dropping dropping]
CLE HiA Capel, Conner CF 3 0 0 0 .269 BB (23) [ditto]
CLE LoA Benson, Will RF 6 1 0 0 .193 [not even a walk]
CLE LoA Clement, Ernie DH 5 1 1 0 .280 2B (12)
CLE LoA Gonzalez, Oscar CF 5 1 4 2 .265 2B (8), HR (7) [lots of power in 2016, none in 2017, he's got in back in 2018]
CLE LoA Jones, Nolan 3B 5 2 2 3 .236 2B (5), HR (6)
CLE MAJ Allen, Greg CF-RF 3 1 1 0 .269
CLE MAJ Bieber, Shane 5.2 8 4 4 1 6 6.35 I think we were aware of this one. He walked a batter? Not quite ready for the majors I guess

Been paying more attention to Game Score for starting pitchers. Had to look up what it was.

50 is the starting score and you get points for good stuff and subtractions for bad stuff.

A score in the high 70s or 80s is considered a very good start.

A score below the starting 50 indicated a not so good night.

Bieber's Game Score for last night was 42. Not awful but certainly not good.

This is just my opinion and could certainly be wrong, but he was outstanding first 4 innings, then wheels fell off last 2. And I really think it was because he had an adrenaline dump.

Sometimes a guy just loses it.

Sometimes the 2nd or 3rd time through a lineup they figure you out.

And what happened to Bieber last night could certainly be either of those. In this case would be A and not B.

But I was watching Bieber on mound and he was trying to remain calm, but you could tell he was extremely pumped. At one point there was a break in the action and he was waiting for a batter to step back in the box and you could literally see his right knee shaking. You know, like when you are hyper and sitting down and your leg is fidgeting up and down a hundred miles an hour and you don't even realize it till your wife takes her hand and grabs you knee and is like, will you stop. That kind of thing, only while he was standing up.

He was painting corners, ball was down in zone, looking great. Then all of a sudden in 5th his ball was high and well off plate. Just lost it. And I really think it was because he just wore himself out with all the adrenaline early on.

Joe Rogan calls it an "adrenaline dump". First time a guy fights in the UFC they get in there under bright lights and in front of a big crowd for the first time and the adrenaline just starts revving. They are used to fighting in front of 30 people in dim lights at regional shows so the bright lights and big crowd gets them going. Then by the 2nd round the guy is totally exhausted. Happens ALL the time in fight game. And I think it is what happened to Bieber last night. Dude just looked spent after 4 innings even though his pitch count was really low.

Again, just my worthless opinion.

But I was really encouraged by what I saw of him last night. He was fantastic first 4 innings till wheels fell off, for whatever reason.

Baseball America has updated their Top 100 list. Have not changed the comments [e.g. don't mention that Mejia is now trying out in the outfield and that he no longer can hit or that McKenzie has not worked one inning this season] but have adjusted rankings.

Mejia dropped from No. 17 to 33
McKenzie from No. 29 to No, 35
Bieber from nowhere to No, 83

I like the adrenaline dump theory for last night HB.

Hell, I often wonder how a kid can ever, ever keep it together his first game in the bigs at all!

Good hurtle for him to get past - next time up he'll have that to draw on. And I figure that was likely the whole purpose.

Baseball is a game of failure.

How guys handle bad breaks, bad stuff, bad command, bad calls makes or breaks a ballplayer.

Bauer was notorious for meltdowns when things went badly. He seems to have improved enormously in the past year.

Let's hope Bieber, a guy that has seen nothing but good things so far, can handle minor setbacks.
