Non-candidate to replace Tomlin Shawn Morimando not pitching well again tonight in Columbus. Only 2 runs in 3 2/3 innings, on a yield of 6 hits and a walk. He's got 6 strikeouts. Eric Haase is developing a new skill: hitting singles, he's had 11 singles among his 16 hits this season. Most years a majority of his hits are for extra bases. Yandy diaz with a walk but caught stealing.

Strangely Michael Peoples is pitching well this season for Akron. Tonight 4 shutout innings with 5 K. ERA is at 1.64.
Last season he was 2-5 5.58 for Akron; 1-4 7/.15 in his AAA debut. This is his 4th season in Akron, so maybe he's figured out how to pitch to AA hitters with plenty of experience behind him.

Mark Mathias has been hot of late; 2 hits in 2 trips tonight, he's now batting 278 and 2 doubles give him 5 for the month, also his 4th steal. OPS at 829. Fellow middle IF prospect Tyler Krieger with his second homer and a single, is up to 207 and is no longer a middle IF, spending most of his time in the outfield.

Bob Feller award winners over the years as our Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Kind of surprised that Most of them had pretty decent major league careers. Some of the failtures were due to injuries [Miller, White, e.g.] Cody Allen has already probably achieved as much as anyone of them with the probable exception of Nagy.

•1990 Charles Nagy
•1991 Mike Soper
•1992 Chad Ogea
•1993 John Carter
•1994 Steve Kline
•1995 Danny Graves
•1996 Danny Graves
•1997 Marc Deschenes
•1998 David Riske
•1999 Robert Pugmire
•2000 Jason Stanford NOW COACHING EASTERN GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
•2001 Mike Bacsik
•2002 Billy Traber
•2003 Fausto Carmona AKA
•2004 Adam Miller
•2005 Jeremy Sowers
•2006 Adam Miller
•2007 Aaron Laffey
•2008 David Huff
•2009 Hector Rondon
•2010 Alex White
•2011 Chen-Chang Lee
•2012 Cody Allen
•2013 Cody Anderson
•2014 Ryan Merritt
•2015 Mike Clevenger

If he says Peoples won the award in 2016 I have to believe it, but I cannot find confirmation online. He was 12-6 in Akron and 1-0 in Columbus with a combined ERA of 3.65 87 strikeouts in 165 innings and a WHIP of 1.36. I would have hoped someone had a better 2016 than Peoples. He has never rated on the BA Top 30 prospect list or with much regard from anyone else that I recall.

Looking at 2016 stats, I would have voted for Morimando [15-5 3.25 1.300 WHIP 119/152IP] or more likely Merryweather [13-6 2.60 1.141 119K/135IP] over Peoples. And Clevinger would have been a fine choice too to repeat at 11-1 3.00 1.215 WHIP about 1 k per inning

But I find Akron preseason writeup for 2017 that does indeed confirm Peoples was so honored although I am not quite sure why. "Michael Peoples lacks top-prospect pedigree, but was given the Bob Feller award last season, as the Indians’ top minor league pitcher. "
