I don't care about where he ranked in major publications lists. There was a great discussion on Twitter about this yesterday among some baseball guys I follow having to do with just that subject. And how major media weighs draft status and signing bonuses far too much when putting their lists together.
Pannone was quite simply one of our best pitching prospects. Ranked below McKenzie, and right there with Bieber and Civale. Merryweather shouldn't even be in conversation right now.
I personally rank Pannone a little higher than Bieber and Civale because he has had more success at AA and because as Civ said, he's the only lefty in the batch.
I would have felt better about the deal had we included Civale or Merryweather. I just think Pannone and Taylor are too much for a 33 year old righty reliever when I didn't even feel right handed set up was a huge need for us.
If we were talking a closer good enough to knock Allen down a peg like Britton or a good lefty to help Miller then obviously I'd give even more.

That’s called an Axe Bat, and it’s from Baden Sports, a company near Seattle whose product was profiled by Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. You can read the profile here — please wait until you’re done with this because he’s 10 times the writer I’ll ever be — but the long and short of it is that the new handle resembles that of an axe as opposed to the traditional knob of the bat, with an oval shape and a tapered handle that gives it more of an oval look from beneath rather than the traditional round shape.
Dustin Pedroia is probably the highest-profile player to use an Axe Bat, but the list continues to grow and currently contains or has contained the likes of Jimmy Rollins, Mookie Betts, Jake Lamb, Avisail Garcia and Carlos Correa.
This is an article about the new AxeBat that is sweeping the majors. Just thought I'd mention it because Lonnie Chisenhall credits his AxeBat for his success offensively this year.

8058Here is a good highlight video of Jackson's catch from different angles.

8060looks better on the video: Jackson went up higher. I'll take either one!

8062The guy definitely will benefit from a break. Probably everything on the guy's body hurts.

8063Tomlin expected to be out 6 weeks. 6 man rotation ends. Clevinger stays in Cleveland. Bauer stays out of the bullpen.

8064Pitching staff gets a much needed day off with tonight's rain out. I wouldn't mind a few more the next 10 days if you know what I mean.
Re: General Discussion
8065I turned on Bruce Drennan in the background and I could have swore I heard him say the Tribe was going to move Clevinger to bullpen for now while Miller is out and if they need a start they will bring Merritt up.
Also read Kipnis will be activated Sunday barring setback.

Re: General Discussion
8066I read that Clevinger will be in the bullpen this weekend and a few days longer until a 5th starter is needed.
Adding Plutko to the roster is a way of saying: we have no intention whatever of using this guy we promoted, but we do want to be able to bring up someone else [Crockett, Armstrong, Merritt] later without having to worry about the 10 day period he has been kept in the minors. Plutko has been almost consistently terrible in AAA this season.

8067Jay Bruce - OF - Mets
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Mets' outfielder Jay Bruce has cleared revocable waivers.
That means that the hard-hitting outfielder is eligible to be traded to any interested team before the end of August. Bruce, who is set to hit free agency after this season, is owed roughly $4 million for the remainder of the 2017 season.
Clearly, since no one even bothered to claim him this guy would come dirt cheap. I say go get him.

Re: General Discussion
8069Gonzalez could not have done anything more to prove he belongs in the majors than he has done. Obviously Urshela has shown off his defensive abilities so impressively that he too proved he has a major league talent, but as a once a week starter not sure why they'd rather keep him than Gonzalez who can play all over the field.
Trade wont' come until the offseason to loosen the IF jog jam. I wonder if they decide to trade Kipnis or one of the younger guys? Chang and Castro could be major leaguers, too, in a couple years.

8070Tough situation because it does seem Jose Ramirez just shines at 2B!
