Indians recalled OF Travis Buck from Triple-A Columbus.

It was a short trip for Buck, as he was sent down to make room for Travis Hafner Friday but returns a day later due to Matt LaPorta's injury. He'll provide some outfield depth but figures to see sporadic playing time.

Didn't Buck play some 1st base in spring training? Phelps may have done some time at 1st in Columbus this season.

Looked it up: I'm wrong on that; other than 2nd Phelps got a lot of work at SS and 1 appearance at 3rd. I thought I'd seen his name in the OF but that doesn't appear in the stats, either. Buck, it turns out, played 5 games at first for the Clippers.

Cleveland Indians fire hitting coach Jon Nunnally; Bruce Fields replaces him

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians have fired hitting coach Jon Nunnally in the wake of a four-week collapse by the offense.

Bruce Fields, the Indians minor league hitting coordinator since 2007, has replaced him.
Nunnally, a former Indians draft pick, was in his second year on the job. The firing was announced before Sunday's game against Pittsburg.

After Thursday's 6-2 loss to Detroit, manager Manny Acta criticized his hitters, but he was also unhappy with Nunnally. Acta said that the hitters were showing no signs of improvement and that some of them were too talented to be in two and three months slumps.

Acta named Nunnally to his coaching staff in 2009. He was the Indians hitting coach at Class A Kinston inb 2007 and and 2008 before moving to Class AAA Columbus in 2009. He replaced Derek Shelton, who was the Indians hitting coach on Eric Wedge's staff. Wedge and his coaching staff were fired late in the
2009 season.

On May 23, the Indians were 30-15 and in first place in the AL Central by seven games. Since then they've gone 8-16, but still retain their hold on first place in the division.

A stagnat offense, and injuries to Travis Hafner and Grady Sizemore, was the Tribe's big problem. In their last 24 games, they have scored two or fewer runs 15 times. In that stretch theye were shut out six times.
