Re: Minor Matters
7817BA has an Ingraham piece on Bradley
For the first time in his four years in the Indians system, first baseman Bobby Bradley did not lead his league in home runs and RBIs.
But he didn't miss by much. At Double-A Akron, Bradley finished second in the Eastern League with 89 RBIs and sixth in home runs with 23. He also improved his strikeout rate from 29.7 percent in 2016 to 22.9 percent in 2017.
On the negative side, Bradley's OPS has decreased each season, counting his career-low .796 this year. But the 21-year-old lefthanded hitter has made a steady climb through the organization.
“He got into a rut early in the season, but he worked hard, and by the end of the year he had become very consistent, and the numbers were there," general manager Mike Chernoff said.
A 2014 third-rounder out of high school in Mississippi, Bradley quickly adapted to pro ball. In 2014 he led the Rookie-level Arizona League with eight homers and 50 RBIs. At low Class A Lake County in 2015 he led the Midwest League with 27 homers and 92 RBIs. At high Class A Lynchburg in 2016 he led the Carolina League with 29 homers and 102 RBIs.
In his first exposure to Double-A this year, Bradley struggled, hitting .176 in April while striking out 28 times in 68 at-bats.
“His mental toughness, work ethic and preparation never wavered," Chernoff said.
In May and June, Bradley hit a combined .291 with nine homers and 36 RBIs. By the end of the year, his numbers argued for a promotion to Triple-A Columbus next year. But first Bradley is spending time in the Arizona Fall League, where he struggled initially. His numbers aren't as important to the Indians as showing progress in all areas.
“We just want to see continued development from him as a hitter and (also) defensively," Chernoff said. “He's so young, that to already be in Double-A this year is a good indicator of his evolution as a player."
[BA's Eastern League top prospect chat was not very positive about Bobby. But he has always been young for his level and I cutting back on strikeouts which is good. Apparently not much progress in the field, and he can't run, and doesn't hit for much of an average. So we're down to the one tool]

7825Just because we weren't in the World Series, doesn't mean our players weren't busy Wednesday
CLE AFL Tom, Ka'ai CF 4 0 2 0 .167 [having seen much of him]
CLE DL Rodriguez, Ronny RF-2B 4 0 2 0 .355 [having a good winter; but doubt he gets a spot on the 40 man roster; could be a rule 5 pick since some times utility infielders are chosen and have a decent chance to stick on the big league rosters]

Re: Minor Matters
7827Indians signed a 16 year old named Carlos Vargos. He threw 95 at 16. He missed all of last year with injury. Yesterday he threw a simulated game at the Dominican complex. Looked good. Might be a young'an to keep an eye on in future.
Re: Minor Matters
7829looking for list of rule 5 eligibles. Tony Lastoria has an article and I think I'm a member of TribeInsider but couldn't access the story,
The only guys who I'm immediately aware of both were draftable last year, but were passed over: Ronnie Rodriguez and Eric Haase. Both had improved performances this year. Unless Haase is really a terrible defender, I'd think his bat would appeal to some team to take a flyer. Ronnie is a dime-a-dozen kind of player who was moved off SS, and never walks. Those two downsides suggest he'll be at best a AAAA player for his career.
I'm sure there are more. Not that hard to figure out, just work back to the draft year remembering that college guys get 4 years and high school picks 5a before they're subject to the draft. I'm guessing that list includes Nellie Rodriguez who certainly didn't polish his prospects this year.

Re: Minor Matters
7830Well, that's not much there, although International signings could have more players of note. All I can identify from the drafts are:
2014 The Great Mike Papi who has underperformed quite consistently; Justin Merryweather, who could be worth protecting, when healthy he gets it up there near 100 mph.
2013: Sean Brady LHP, who's making up for lost time in Arizona; and longer shot Cole Sulser, reliever who's in Arizona, too - made to Columbus and the good news: 59 K in 48 IP; the bad: 26 BB in those 48 innings.
For some reason I cannot find the full 2013 international signing list. the biggest bonus Indians that year was $600,000 to OF Junior Soto who except for one big day at the plate has done nothing to justify it.
By now we would have expected Dorsyss Paulino to be on the 40 man roster but his progress has stalled and cannot see him worth protection.
