Lou: As Civ pointed out, we were facing a lefty yesterday, and Greg Allen is a switch hitter where as Naquin is a lefty. So Allen got the nod. Today we are facing Lopez, who is a righty. So I'm sure we will see either Zimmer or Naquin today. Maybe both? If Bruce is still out, Naquin has been playing some corner OF in Columbus this year. With Brantley still out we may see some lineups with Chiz, Zim, and Naquin in it.

I think especially once the streak is over. Lots of extra guy type lineups then!

Not that injuries seem to slow this team down.

As long as Lindor and Ramirez are standing and the pitching staff humming it's all good.

When it was Canton-Akron they were just the Indians. Boring. ZZZzzz

Aeros was a terrible nickname. Many didn't even know why they were called that. They were originally going to call the team the Blast in honor of the female astronaut that died in the Challenger disaster who was from the area. (Judith something, had an unusual last name I can never remember) But obviously, Blast could be taken wrong and in bad taste and was quickly changed to Aeros. But just didn't have a natural fit. Never worked.

Everyone knows the tie of the rubber industry to Akron. Makes sense. I'm glad they added Ducks to add a little fun. I'm sure the name will stick for quite a while. No need to change once you get it right.

Some of my favorites that isn't crazy but really fit. ... Nashville Sound, Reno Aces, Jackson Generals.

Then, some of my favorite fun ones ... Las Vegas 51's ... as a known paranormal junkie conspiracy theorist and tin hat man I love the tie to area 51. ... Then there are the Sea Dogs, Fire Frogs, Mud Hens, River Bandits, Storm Chasers, Rail Riders, River Dogs, Rock Hounds, Crawdads, Blue Wahoos, Yard Goats, Baby Cakes, Rumble Ponies, Iron Pigs, and Muck Dogs.

Good stuff.

Well, since the minor league season has come to a close I am going to give my postseason top prospect list. I am going to leave off Yandy/Naquin types who has got significant MLB playing time now. You guys know how much I like or dislike them by now anyway.

1- Francisco Mejia
2- Triston McKenzie (these two could go in any order, nod to Mejia cause he's proven it at AA)
3- Greg Allen
4- Shane Bieber
5- Willi Castro
6- Nolan Jones
7- Bobby Bradley
8- Aaron Civale
9- Mitch Longo
10- Tyler Freeman
11- Eli Morgan
12- Ben Krauth
13- Will Benson
14- Jonathan Teaney
15- Gabe Collins
16- Brock Hartson
17- Shawn Morimando (great start but then imploded)
18- Mitch Reeves
19- Zach Plesac
20- Jodd Carter (didn't have the kind of season I expected but still young)

Next on my list is a group of pitchers in lower levels that I need to see more of as they progress. A lot of potential here though. Wouldn't shock me to see any of the guys make a jump next year or two. ... Hentges, Siri, JC Mejia, DeMasi, Vazquez, Tati,

Oscar Gonzalez showed a lot this year but his walk to K ratio was terrible. Only 5 walks to 61 K's. That does not instill confidence with me. Can't add him to my list till he becomes more patient and starts drawing some walks. But definitely potential there.

Haase should get a mention. Did a great job refining his swing this year and adding lots of pop at catcher position.

Judith Arlene Resnik (April 5, 1949 – January 28, 1986) was an American engineer and a NASA astronaut who died when the Space Shuttle Challenge.

At the beginning of my legal career, I represented her estate in a lawsuit against Morton Thiokol for screwing up in allowing the shuttle to launch despite the freezing weather that day and concerns about the o-rings that separated the stages of the booster rocket. Those frozen o-rings left gaps for exhaust to burn through in jets that led to the explosion.

Her ex-husband was executor of her estate and a good guy. Her heirs were her niece and nephew. He was looking to gain nothing for himself, but only to secure justice for her and her family. He and her family wanted only to have her heirs get the same kind of recovery that other non-military members of the crew's estates were going to get. They didn't want her life valued less than other victim's lives simply because she was military and died without children of her own or a spouse. As an active member of the military, her wrongful death claim was limited by law to the relatively small recover that is available to all people who die while serving in the military. The key was to show that she could have a claim of pain and suffering while she was alive that would "survive" her death in the accident. That required both proof that she was alive long enough to realize what was happening and that whatever law applied to the disaster would provide for pain and suffering damages and potential punitive damages for Morton Thiokol's failure to warn about the o-ring concerns its engineers were voicing before the lift-off was cleared by the company despite the weather.

My job was to advise what law applied to a NASA space ship that blasted of from a federally owned facility in Florida, was controlled by a federally owned facility in Houston, was doomed by launch safety advice rendered by a private company in Utah, blew up on its way into outer space and ultimately fell into the ocean. Federal torts act? Florida? Texas? Utah? Admiralty? Something else? Or was there no real conflict in how any and all of those laws would apply.

Turns out that we knew she was alive long enough to know what was happening because the shuttle was configured so that people in later rows of the launch vehicle turned on the emergency oxygen supply for those sitting in front of them. Judy had done that for the people in front of her.

Also turned out that, no matter what law applied, Judy would be entitled to pursue a surviving claim for pain, suffering and possible punitive damages under the circumstances that the investigation exposed and that were contained in the official report of the cause of the disaster. As soon as Morton Thiokol's counsel got my memo, the agreed to pay her estate what the civilian astronaut's estates were getting. My understanding is that they actually wanted to pay and only needed an opinion that would justify it legally.

As I said, it was one of my very first matters as a lawyer, but it was cool to see so many people acting honorably in resolving such a sad event. For me, it was a great way to start a career where those ideals are often difficult to achieve despite one's very best (and persistent) efforts.

1. Francisco Mejia
2- Triston McKenzie (these two could go in any order, nod to Mejia cause he's proven it at AA)
3- Greg Allen [realized I left him out of my top of the head top 10; I think he'd be a few spots lower on my list]
4- Shane Bieber
5- Willi Castro
6- Nolan Jones
7- Bobby Bradley
8- Aaron Civale
9- Mitch Longo [I guess?? He has certainly had a surprising and outstanding half year. I don't things like if he has an arm for RF or the range for CF. Any OF who's limited to Left is downgraded. How's his power? His speed?]
10- Tyler Freeman
11- Eli Morgan [I read warnings that his offspeed stuff is sure to dominate low minor leaguers but might not pass the test father along. I'd put him much lower although hope his debut is promise of what lies ahead]
12- Ben Krauth [very few minor league relievers continue to the top. Could be an exception?]
13- Will Benson
14- Jonathan Teaney
15- Gabe Collins
16- Brock Hartson
17- Shawn Morimando (great start but then imploded)
18- Mitch Reeves [doubt it] 32nd round 22 year old who hit rather well in a mostly teenager league]
19- Zach Plesac [looked good]
20- Jodd Carter

Obviously a 22o average in AA is not very impressive but Chang had great power production and is said to have improved his defense. So he remains on my list in the 10=12 range probably.
Merryweather was moving toward the top early in the season and then injuries and AAA set him back. I don't eliminate him completely.
Johnnathan Rodriguez intrigues me more than Holmes, but both get on the list, maybe more like the 21-30 range that you didn't get down to.
Connor Capel showed lots of power for Lake County.
Logan Ice hit a wee bit and is supposed to be an excellent defender.
Brady Aiken seems to be trying really hard and folks like his work effort and he had better overall stats than you'd expect for a guy who led professional baseball in walks; I haven't given up on him completely, just mostly.
Then there are those impressive 16 and 17 year olds who signed International contracts this year and last. They're already on the mlb.com top 30.

As always, I did my list as an odds sheet. Odds of being a good major league for a considerable amount of time. The only ones I'm confident in at this point is our top 5. In other words, odds are good. (Although I never get real confident about a guy until I see them at AA anymore so Will wait till next year before allowing myself to get too excited about Castro but really liking him so far)

6 Through 10 odds are semi decent.

11 through 14 the odds get real iffy.

15 throughout the rest, not good.

There are some really good looking pitchers in our lower level. But most just hit my radar, I have to see more of them. Hentges just got back from injury so can't place good odds on him yet. Holmes and Rodriguez didn't show much of anything, but last year Benson was nowhere on my lists either. They have plenty of time and expect both will be on future lists, at least would hope so. These are guys that this odds maker took off the board for now till further info. But liked alot of what I saw.

I know the big media outlets don't include relievers on their lists. Myself, I don't know why. A good bullpen is extremely important to a team. Why leave them off? Besides, I get a kick out of following a young guy who strikes out crap ton of batters. I will include them on my list. I'm not so sure Morgan's future may not be in bullpen. Plesac too. But have a feeling, although early I know, that they will find a roll. We'll see.
Teams are always looking for lefty relievers so have a feeling Krauth will have a bright future for someone.
