Brantley hits everyone, but they still want to give him time off. Guyer has a 2 year deal, which may turn out to be burden like those for a bunch of 30-something OFs we signed over the past decade or two and did little. Names don't come to mind since they were pretty valueless. Wasn't there a Murphy? Nixon. more tbd

Tito said the club doesn't need to announce anything, but that it's probably "safe to assume" Clevinger will be making the start on Sunday.

I'm glad Clevinger is getting a call up but sure wish it was under way different circumstances.

Lower back strain lands Kluber on 10-day DL
Tribe recalls reliever Colon from Triple-A Columbus

By Jordan Bastian / MLB.com | @MLBastian | 4:04 PM ET

DETROIT -- The Indians are hoping that some time off will help alleviate the back issue that has bothered ace Corey Kluber throughout the season's first five weeks.

Prior to Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Cleveland placed Kluber on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain and recalled reliever Joseph Colon from Triple-A Columbus. The move comes after Kluber exited Tuesday's 5-2 loss to Detroit after only three innings due to back tightness.

With the time frame for a DL stint now reduced to 10 days -- as opposed to the previous 15-day format -- the best-case scenario would have Kluber missing only one turn in the rotation. The Indians will need a starter on Sunday in Kansas City, but they will not technically require a fifth arm again until May 16 due to a team off-day on May 11.

Kluber will be eligible for activation on May 13.

In Tuesday's loss, Kluber logged 55 pitches and allowed five runs on seven hits before exiting. Following the game, the right-hander was still moving around gingerly in the visitors' clubhouse at Comerica Park. The same issue flared up during his April 9 road outing against the D-backs, and Kluber said he had also been bothered on and off by the back issue in other starts.

KANSAS CITY -- Indians left fielder Michael Brantley left Sunday's 1-0 win against the Royals in the fourth inning with a right ankle sprain, as manager Terry Francona shifted Brandon Guyer from right field to left and inserted Lonnie Chisenhall in right field.
Brantley tweaked the ankle when he hit first base awkwardly while trying to beat out a squibber in the third inning.
"It's not the dreaded high-ankle sprain," Francona said. "He hit first [base] hard. Hopefully, it's a day or two."

Brantley, who underwent surgery last Aug. 15 to address chronic biceps tendinitis, went 0-for-2 and is hitting .283 with five homers and 17 RBIs.

Subtle things win.

So Detroit lost back to back games they were winning over the weekend because the bullpen blew them.

Meanwhile, we probably won 2 games we EASILY could have lost except the bullpen was pretty much perfect.

Erases a lot of team issues. A good team picks each other up. Bullpen carrying the weight!

Oh, and great game Clevinger!

It seems that the way to ruin any reliever's career is to hook him up with the Tigers.
Actually several of their guys have good stats this year, but Hernandez at the back of the pen is setting off fireworks on a regular basis.

Justin Wilson has been their version of Miller - lefty setup and nasty. I'd use him if I were them.

Yandy Diaz - 3B - Indians

Indians recalled 3B/OF Yandy Diaz from Triple-A Columbus.

Diaz began the season with the Indians while Jason Kipnis was on the shelf and batted .236/.295/.255 over 15 games before being sent down to Triple-A last month. He saw time in the outfield in the minors and should function in a utility role in his return to the majors.

my gosh, I'm beginning to think Martinez would have to commit a felony, no, be convicted of a felony, before they got rid of him. But I am glad they finally brought Yandy back up.

He shouldn't have a hard time getting at bats either. They've been giving Kipnis some time off here and there, you could scoot Jose over again and play Yandy at 3rd. Even when Brantley comes back they've been easing him back in with days off too, so he can play left. Against lefties he can play LF or RF instead of Almonte who has done nothing. You could give Lindor, Santana, and Edwin a day off once in a great while and he could play 1st, DH, or 3B with Jose scooting over to short. Lots of ways to ensure he gets at bats.

I wonder how the outfield experience went in Columbus? Yandy played quite a few games this winter in the outfield.

Tito told me they were going to call up Yandy Diaz even before Brantley got hurt. He's starting in LF tonight.

.

I kinda thought when Yandy was out of Columbus lineup yesterday that he might have been on way to Toronto.
