I never realized that Nick Johnson was the nephew of Larry Bowa.
Let the fire burn.
Re: General Discussion
752Nick Johnson has joined Triple-A Columbus.
Johnson played just two games for Double-A Akron before the Indians decided he was ready for stiffer competition. They may be planning to fast-track him to the major leagues, where can help at DH while Travis Hafner continues to recover from his oblique strain.

Wes Hodges - 3B - Indians
Indians released 3B Wes Hodges.
Hodges, 26, batted .216/.276/.325 over 125 plate appearances this season at Triple-A Columbus. He was given the boot to clear a roster spot for Nick Johnson.

Re: General Discussion
753The Indians either did or didn't have a players-only meeting prior to Monday's game. Initially, some players said there was a meeting, while Acta said there was not. Indians PR chief Bart Swain later confirmed there was a brief players-only meeting.

Re: General Discussion
754We knew before the start of the season that the talent level of the Tribe was average(at best) in some key areas. Thus we see the dark side exposed the last few weeks.
Did we really believe the bats were going to continue hitting above .300 with RISP?
Did we believe that Tomlin and Masterson were 2 of the top 10 starting pitchers in the league?
They aren't as bad as the recent streak, nor as good as the first 2 months.
Time to put on your dancing shoes and bust a move to 'The June Swoon'.

Re: General Discussion
755On the flip side, Tribe still has the third best record in MLB.

Re: General Discussion
756A sad end for Wes Hodges.
He looked like a half decent prospect for a while.
Also looks like Jason Donald will be activated to coincide with the Phelps promotion.

There ain't no frickin' "June Swoon" for this Tribe Fan!
Happy Birthday, Donna!

Re: General Discussion
761Cord Phelps called up from AAA...Shelley Duncan optioned to Columbus and Alex White moved to 60-day DL.
Phelps is batting .299/.391/.488 with seven home runs and 40 RBI over his first 55 games at the Triple-A level this season. The 24-year-old doesn't have much in the way of pop or speed, but has a solid approach at the plate. While he has primarily played shortstop and second base in the minors, the Indians could view him as alternative to the struggling Jack Hannahan at third base.

Re: General Discussion
763Odd that Duncan was sent down instead of Kearns.
Maybe they think Kearns is tradable.
Not that I am a Duncan fan but he did help us win some games.

Re: General Discussion
764#35. I don't remember who wore that back in the 60's and 70's. Stan Williams, perhaps? I know 33, 34, 42, 48, of course.
Re: General Discussion
765May as well send him down or dfa, that would leave a vacancy on the roster. These guys are stinking up the place.
