Vaqueros went out or was it turned off?

Jan 22, 2025

Montería. The defeat of Vaqueros de Montería for the second consecutive year in the final of Colombian professional baseball at the hands of Caimanes de Barranquilla left a bad taste in the mouth among the fans of the Sinuana team, who this season saw the title very close, but inexplicably it slipped out of their hands.

The Vaqueros put the Barranquilla team in check with a 3-1 lead, just one victory away from winning their third pennant, but the pitching fell apart in a resounding way,

Two outs away from the championship and the Vaqueros blew the game in the 9th. The fifth game was a poorly played one. 7 errors by the Caimenes and 5 by the Vaqueros. the Vaqueros then went on to lose games 6 & 7.

Caimanes-Olímpica defined its roster to play the Americas Series in Nicaragua

Pitchers: Kevin Escorcia (LHP), Ronald Ramirez Montoya (LHP), Jean Herrera (RHP), Jhon Romero (RHP), Hansel Paulino (RHP), Randy Cuentas (RHP), Dewin Perez (LHP), Deivy Mendez (RHP), Alvin Herrera, Samuel Burgos (RHP), Junior Rincon (RHP), Alvery De los Santos (RHP), Luis Perez (RHP), Fernando Perez (RHP) and Oddy Nunez (LHP).

Receivers: Guillermo Quintana and Ronaldo Hernández.

Infielders: Edgar Barrios, Fabian Pertuz Jr., Dario Borrero, Joseph Rosa and Estamy Ureña.

Outfielders: Jesus Marriaga, Gustavo Armas, Jesus Valdez, Alejandro De Aza and Dilson Herrera.

Notably missing from the Americas Series is Dayan Frias.

So! now there was none.

First time in memory that we did not have at least one player representing the Guardians in Series competition.

Who Are the Japan Breeze? The Mystery Team of the Caribbean Series

Leif Skodnick - World Baseball Network

Jan 20th, 2025 8:39pm EST

At first glance, sure, it feels strange: a team representing Japan is playing in the Caribbean Series, which is being held this year in Mexicali, Mexico, closer to the Gulf of California than the Caribbean.

Led by Nippon Professional Baseball hall of famer Alex Ramirez, a native of Venezuela who played 135 games in Major League Baseball with the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates before continuing his career in Japan, the team, known as the Japan Breeze, is the first entrant in the Caribbean Series from outside the Americas.

Largely comprised of players from Japan’s industrial leagues and independent minor leagues, the Japan Breeze was the opponent for the 2025 Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional (LVBP) All-Star Game, falling 3-1 but nonetheless holding the Venezuelan stars to three runs on four hits.

It’s hard to make a prognostication on a team where you don’t have a complete roster, and the players whose names you do have don’t seem to have any statistics in notable leagues.

That said, one of the old tropes that scouts will always toss out is that “there are no secrets in baseball.” Or any other sport, for that matter.

It’s certainly possible that the Japan Breeze will knock off one of the four champions of the CBPC’s leagues in Mexicali. They’d need to win at least two games to have a chance of making the Caribbean Series semifinals, and with the limited information available on the team – eight of 11 players who came to bat for the team are virtual unknowns – it’s really hard to see this team winning more than two games during pool play.
