Gabriel Arias already has a position with Magallanes

The player is expected to play right field and shortstop.

The Tiburones de La Guaira player, Gabriel Arias, is now ready to support Navegantes del Magallanes after being chosen as a reinforcement for the Round Robin of the 2024-25 season of the LVBP.

In statements given to the press, the young Creole assured that he wants to support the team in everything he can and will work very hard in each game.

"Nothing is going to change. I'm coming to play hard and be the same as always," said the Venezuelan star who had a batting average of .292 during the regular season.

Navegantes manager Eduardo Pérez was very happy with this selection because Arias had a great performance and he hopes he can perform well with the team.

Bravos blanked Magallanes in the return of Margarita to the postseason

Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 09:20 am

Eduardo Pérez's team was unable to solve the pitches of the opposing pitchers throughout the game at the Nueva Esparta Stadium. Despite acquiring two of the best hitters in the regular round from the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Draft as is the case of Yangervis Solarte and Gabriel Arias, they were unable to produce as expected.

During this electrifying game on Margarita Island, they only managed four hits over nine complete innings. This record is alarming, considering that expectations for this lineup are quite high.

Those who are called to take the lead role and a large part of the production for the Navigators have an extra responsibility in each of the games they have in this Round Robin.

In this first loss, these are the final records of their main hitters in the lineup:

Carlos Rodriguez: 4-1
Yangervis Solarte: 4-0
Renato Núñez: 3-0, with one walk.
Eliezer Alfonzo Jr.: 4-0
Alberth Martinez: 3-0, with one strikeout.
Diego Castillo: 4-0.
Tito Polo: 3-1
Gabriel Arias: 4-2 with one strikeout.

(Arias had only 3 chances in the fielding them cleanly.)

Wish he would play more second base this winter. They're moving him all around. RF, SS, 3B, 1B, and DH.

Vaqueros goes for its seventh final; Toros reacted late and said goodbye

Dec 30, 2024

Today, with a routine game between Leones de Barranquilla and Toros de Sincelejo, at the 20 de Enero Stadium in the capital of Sucre, the regular round of the 2024-2025 Colombian Professional Baseball League ends.

The performance of the teams from La Sabana, Vaqueros de Montería and Toros de Sincelejo was different: the Monterians qualified and the Sincelejans were eliminated.

Vaqueros, who along with Caimanes de Barranquilla, was a clear favorite to dominate this stage of the tournament, did not disappoint: they achieved 22 victories and 14 defeats, finishing three games behind the leader Caimanes.

The Montería team relied on its good offense, which was co-leader in average with .272, first in runs scored and RBIs with 242 and 214 and second in home runs with 30.

The star was Brayan Buelvas from Montería, who is a prospect for the Oakland Athletics. He led the statistics for home runs and RBIs, with 9 and 35, respectively. Special mention for the Venezuelan Franklin Torres, who was the batting champion with .365.

On the pitching side, the Vaqueros had a reliable rotation. Carlos Quevedo, Alvery de los Santos and Jack Einsenbarger had a record of 13-5, with an ERA of 3.54.

For the postseason, Cowboys closer Christian Scafidi has been on the decline. In November, he allowed three earned runs in 11.2 innings and in December, he was allowed five runs in 5.1 innings.

Starting on January 3, Caimanes, Vaqueros, Tigres and Leones will face each other for a place in the final.

Dayan Frias (SS, Monteria): combined 5-for-17, 6 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB (1 intentional), 5 K, 4 SB - Speaking of shortstops, Frias continued his Colombian campaign with a week highlighted by a three-hit, three-run, two-RBI, two-stolen base Saturday.

ohnathan Rodriguez (LF, Carolina): combined 1-for-10, 2 BB (1 intentional), 1 HBP, 3 K - Rodriguez, who rounded out a week of Guardians prospects sticking to a single position, struggled at the plate, reaching three times as much via free passes as with his bat.

Dec 31, 2024

Montería.

The 2024-2025 regular season of the Colombian Professional Baseball League ended to give way to the playoffs, a round that will surely be exciting and full of heat, since fans of hot baseball in the country will not be able to close their eyes at any time, since they would be at risk of missing any decisive play that can define the two finalists.

The round robin (all against all) will begin on Friday, January 3. In this round, each of the four teams will have to play 6 games and the best two will play for the title.

Vaqueros will face Tigres de Cartagena in their first game at the 18 de Junio Stadium in Montería, while they will see action again on Saturday, January 4 against Leones at the Edgar Rentería Stadium in Barranquilla. Games in which the Monteria team must be super concentrated, since the postseason is very short and there is no room for errors that can cost them elimination.

On the other hand, Leones will face Caimanes on Friday, January 3 at the Édgar Rentería Stadium in the capital of Atlántico.

I missed the opportunity in November when they had the Choque de Gigantes! (Battle of the Giants) played in Miami. The teams were from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

If I get to live long enough, maybe I can make it to the Caribbean World series. It will be played in Miami in 2028. I'm 80 years old and still working full time. Been with this company for 38 years. Maybe I can get a few days off to attend ;) ;) ;)

Last time I was in Florida, I spent six years going to spring training games at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven just before the team moved to Arizona. Loufla, Tampa Steve, Dona & husband, Jim, Seagull, and I think Uncle Dennis among others were there. Can't remember if JR was there. I'm sure he was. My mind ain't what it used to be. Been trying to contact Lou and Steve, but not getting anywhere on that front. Like to know how they survived all the hurricanes.

Fond Memories of Seagull scooping up baseballs on the back fields. Donna soliciting auto graphs. Alligator crawling in one of the dugouts on the backfield near lake Lulu.

The Puerto Rican Winter Ball League has a You Tube channel where you can watch the games but you need a subscription.

The Series del Caribe games are televised over the Spanish channels.

Watched the winter league games over the tv but never in person.

Have a safe & healty New Year, Civ.
