I put the career stat links for Cooney [a starter] and Escobar [a reliever] in Minor Matters. We needed left handed depth. Good moves. Hope we don't lose Santander, but he's never played in AA so probably unlikely.

I think Lindor is under club control the next four years. Maybe they should talk about extending his contract before he gets too greedy and decides to walk.

they will. They've been doing that for years now.

Agree, they will.

On Napoli:

Mike Napoli - 1B - Indians

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Astros have shown interest in free agent slugger Mike Napoli.

While the team is said to be in the market for a left-handed power bat, Napoli could play at both 1B and DH for the Astros and would provide much-needed veteran leadership.

The 35-year-old was terrific in his lone season with the Indians, slashing .239/.335/.465 with a career-high 34 homers and 101 RBI.

I have to assume with that type of competition for Napoli (Seattle too I read), that his price will be absurdly high and not worth pursuing. (That's of course assuming that Napoli stays because he LOVED it here..possible I guess)

Certainly the case can be made (HB?) that we caught lightning in a bottle on that one, got lucky, and let it go. Spend some of that elsewhere.

The roster actually looks full already:

LF Brantley LH
CF Naquin LH [apparently his defensive stats were the worst for a CF in the majors, I read somewhere] a
and Almonte RH
RF Guyer RH
and Chisenhall LH
1B/DH Santana RH
2b Kipnis LH
ss Lindor LH/RH
3b Ramirez LH/RH
IF Martinez RH if we must; Gonzalez RH I hope
C Perez RH
and Gomes RH
1b/3b/lf/cf/rf Yandy Diaz RH

That's 13 players and that's all that Francona carries.
Napoli signing would "block" Yandy Diaz, it seems

So I think that says Brantley replaces Nap basically, and Almonte replaces Rajai?

Have to figure Yandy in there somewhere, is there someone else we're losing that I'm forgetting about?
We lose some power without Napoli. We lose some stolen bases without Davis. We gain in batting average with all three of the additions and line drive gap power.

What about Urshela? Not enough playing positions for Tito? I also think we might keep Davis. 7.5 Mill might be able to do it.

Tribe signs Robertson, outrights Martinez

CLEVELAND --

Having versatility and depth is a priority for the Indians each offseason. A pair of roster moves on Wednesday were made with both aspects in mind.

The Indians signed free-agent outfielder Daniel Robertson to a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to attend Spring Training with the big league club. The Tribe also outrighted utility man Michael Martinez off the 40-man roster, but the team valued the defensive protection he provided last season and still hopes to keep him in the fold with a Minor League deal.

• Hot Stove Tracker

The Indians' 40-man roster consists of 39 players.

At the moment, Cleveland's outfield projects to include Michael Brantley in left, Tyler Naquin in center and Lonnie Chisenhall in right, with the switch-hitting Abraham Almonte offering depth at each spot. Brantley is expected to be ready for Spring Training after right shoulder and biceps issues limited him to 11 games last season. The Indians are in the market for outfield help, and adding a versatile backup option like Robertson is always on the Tribe's radar.

In a 114-game stint with Triple-A Tacoma (Seattle) last season, the 31-year-old Robertson logged time at second base (38 games), left field (35), center field (29) and right (16). The right-handed-hitting outfielder appeared in 116 games across the 2014-16 seasons with the Rangers, Angels and Mariners. Robertson has hit .273 (.647 OPS) in his Major League career, while batting .304 (.739 OPS) against left-handed pitching.

While at Triple-A last year, Robertson hit .287 with 32 extra-base hits, 46 RBIs and a .768 OPS with the Rainiers. He suited up for Seattle for nine games in July, batting .263 in that brief big league stint.

Martinez, 34, appeared in 59 of his 63 games last season with the Indians and offered a backup option for second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions. The switch-hitting Martinez hit .242 (.581 OPS) in his time with the Tribe -- he also had a four-game tour with the Red Sox in July before being reacquired -- and served as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement during the postseason.

Indians tendered 8 of their 9 guys. Manship was not tendered and is now a free agent. It's not that Manship was terrible, but I think they wanted to clear up a spot for Armstrong. Just my opinion.
