GUARDIANS PROSPECT REPORT

January 16, 2024

Colombia:

Why was Colombia left out of the 2024 Caribbean Series?

The 66th edition of the Caribbean Series, which will mark the 75th anniversary of the oldest international championship in professional baseball, will celebrate the occasion in style, being played for the first time in a Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium in the United States. the Miami Marlins' Loan Depot Park.

Scheduled to be held in La Ciudad del Sol from February 1 to 9, 2024, the next Caribbean classic will feature seven contenders. In addition to the champions of the leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, who are permanent members of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), three participants will do so as special guests; Curacao, Nicaragua and Panama.

While Nicaragua will be debuting in the small Latin American World Series, the big absentees will be Cuba and Colombia, which have seen action in recent tournaments, including this year's one in Venezuela.

Why was Colombia left out of the 2024 Caribbean Series? The answer will depend on who is asked the question.

Colombia not only has a significant population in Miami and a respectable pool of talent in organized baseball in the United States, but it also won the Caribbean Series less than two years ago, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

"After careful consideration, we have decided on additional guests that will participate in the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami. Unfortunately, Colombia has not been selected as one of the participants," he wrote in a letter sent to Colombia last week, the Mrs. Sara Loarte, president and commercial manager of Infinity Global, LLC, a consulting company in logistics and marketing of sporting events, which the Marlins hired to organize the Caribbean Series.

"We appreciate their proposal and their interest in the Series and we wish them all the best in their future baseball projects," added Loarte....................
