Venezuela won its first game against Panama

Leones del Caracas showed great offensive power to start off on the right foot

GERARDO JAVIER ROMERO

FEBRUARY 3, 2023

Leones del Caracas from Venezuela added their first victory in the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series after defeating the Federales de Chiriquí 5-2.

The Lions team respected its debut at the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium in Caracas with a dignified offensive representation led by figures such as Alí Castillo and Hernán Pérez.

The current champions of the LVBP also benefited from the lack of control of the Panamanian pitchers, who awarded several walks that loaded the bases on a couple of occasions.

Caracas took the lead in the first inning on a single by Hernán Pérez that drove in Alí Castillo. In the second inning, the situation was complicated with a couple of runs scored by the Federales to go ahead 2-1.

In the fourth inning, Leones scored the tying run thanks to four walks received by their batters. In that inning Wilson Ramos put the Lions in front with the third run 3-2.

The fourth run of the game came in the eighth inning by Ángel Reyes. The last run was scored by Isaías Tejeda after a sacrifice fly by José Rondón.

The game's most valuable player was Alí Castillo, who finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

The Federales de Chiriquí of Panama beat this Friday by a final score of 6-5 the Vaqueros de Montería of Colombia in the Greater Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.

The Central American team showed that they did not lose confidence in the competition after losing to Leones del Caracas and demonstrated a strong offensive capacity against the Vaqueros.

Vaqueros took the lead in the first inning with a single by Jordan Díaz batting in Gustavo Campero, in a game that seemed largely dominated by Colombia.

Despite this, in the fourth inning they began to suffer some pitching problems, which was reflected Francisco Acuña singled to tie the game. Panama added two more runs on a single by Enrique Valdez that gave them the advantage that they would not relinquish.

The game was defined thanks to home runs by Orozco and Sandoval, who put the score at 6-3. Vaqueros would come back in the seventh inning, but without opportunities to turn the score around.

Despite the Columbian offense, pitcher Harold Arauz demonstrated his ability to throw a total of six innings in which he barely allowed three runs.

Federales will face off this Saturday against the Curaçao team to try to add their second victory.

Dominican win thanks to their pitching

The team will face Puerto Rico Saturday

By GERARDO JAVIER ROMERO

FEBRUARY 3, 2023

The Tigres del Licey from the Dominican Republic achieved a solid 3-1 victory against Agricultores from Cuba to add their first win of the Greater Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.

The Santo Domingo team had Domingo Robles as starter at the Jorge Luis García Carneiro stadium in La Guaira, who pitched for five innings in which he only allowed five hits and one run.

This performance allowed him to pick up the victory and leave a 1.80 ERA in the championship.

The Tigers took the lead in the third inning thanks to an error by the Cuban catcher for Luis Barrera to score the first run.

After this and in the same inning, Robinson Canó would hit a single to make the game 2-0. The third run came after a force out attempt by Ramón Hernández that allowed him to reach base.

The loss went to Agricultores pitcher Jonathan Carbo, who pitched just 2.1 innings in which he allowed all three opposing runs.

The next game for the Dominican Republic will be on Saturday against the Indios de Mayagüez of Puerto Rico.

Néstor Molina and Curaçao dominate Mexico 2-1 in La Rinconada

By Harold Capote

02/03/2023 8:49 pm

Sicnarf Loopstok:

Game 1 against Cuba > Pinch Hit 0-1
Game 2 against Columbia . Catching 1-4

Caracas.-

The Curaçao squad relied on the great work of its starter, the Venezuelan Néstor Molina, to defeat the representative delegation of Mexico, the Cañeros de Los Mochis, 2-1, in what was the closest game so far in the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.

The pitcher more than repaid the Curaçao team for the trust they placed on him by taking him as one of his reinforcements for the tournament and he did it with five solid innings of work, in which he contained an Aztec slugger, who presented in his lineup several players known to him, after his recent past in baseball in that country.

It was precisely this experience that helped Molina cope with a game in which, although he did not have absolute control, especially due to control complications after giving away a total of three walks, he always managed to overcome obstacles, forcing the opponent to fail with men on base, as happened at the end of the third inning when he had the bases loaded and got out of the situation unscathed by forcing the dangerous Reynaldo Rodríguez to ground out to third.

Curacao's offense had gone ahead in the third inning after a pair of back-to-back doubles, one by Roger Bernadina and one by Ray-Patrick Diddier, all against pitches from American Matt Pobereyko.

In inning five, Curacao extended the lead thanks to Bernardina himself when, after two outs, he connected a hit towards the center field scoring Edmon Americaan.

Molina came out to try to give manager Hainley Statia a larger task, but fell short of his aspirations, because Joey Terdoslavich finally cracked it with a long home run to the right field stands, the fourth in the history of the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium in Caracas.

In the end, the work of the Venezuelan consisted of 5.1 innings, three hits allowed, three walks and four strikeouts, enough to earn his first win and give him the first in Curaçao's records in a Caribbean Series.

After Molina's departure, Statia used up to four relievers including Wendell Floranus, who earned the save by pitching the ninth perfectly, with two strike outs.

Roger Bernardina was the offensive spark plug for Curaçao going 3-4, with a double, run scored and RBI.

For Mexico, the American Matt Pobereyko suffered the defeat.

After the second day of competition, both squads have an even record of one victory and one loss, the same as that of the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Cuba and Panama.

Curaçao adds its second victory in the Caribbean Series

By SAIRUBY ALAYON FLORES

FEBRUARY 4, 2023

The Curaçao team takes its second victory in the Greater Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.

In a great pitching duel against the representation of Panama (Federales de Chiriquí) reliever Temesh Lourens worked for 3.1 innings, a period in which he walked only 2 and struck out two, and gave up no runs.

Lourens found himself with the bases loaded, he was able to get out of the jam to win the most valuable player award of the game held at the Simón Bolívar Stadium in Caracas.

The only run of the game came thanks to a pitch to Ray Patrick Didder with the bases loaded, in the seventh inning, scoring Darren Seferina.

With this victory, those from Curaçao leave their record at 2-1 to momentarily lead in the standings of the baseball classic.

The next meeting of the Curaçao team will be this Sunday against the Colombian team.

Mexico, walk off base hit in the 9th, defeats Colombia 7-6

The team showed its power after an impressive four-run comeback in the 8th and 9th innings

By GERARDO JAVIER ROMERO

FEBRUARY 4, 2023

Dayan Frias

Offensively, Dayan (0-3, W) with his third straight 0-Fer. Frias did reach base in his last at-bat in the 8th inning. Dayan was dropped in the lineup from the second to the ninth spot. Maybe the walk can get off the floor.

Defensively, Frias was less active than on Thursday. Dayan only had three chances without an error.

The Monumental Simón Bolívar stadium in La Rinconada was the scene of one of the most disputed games of the 2023 Caribbean Series between Mexico and Colombia

Los Cañeros de Los Mochis demonstrated all their power to defeat the Vaqueros de Montería 7-6, in what was an impressive comeback in the last two innings.

Columbia went ahead with a couple of runs in the first inning. Despite these runs, the Aztecs responded quickly with runs scored by Justin Dean and Roberto Valenzuela to tie the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Cañeros took the lead 3-2 on a solo home run by Juan Uriarte.

Venezuela defeats Cuba 20-3 and makes history in the SDC

The Lions becomes the one that has scored the most hits and runs during a game in the history of the Caribbean Series

By GERARDO JAVIER ROMERO

FEBRUARY 5, 2023

Leones del Caracas from Venezuela gave a batting lesson after beating Farmers from Cuba 20-3 on the third day of the 2023 Caribbean Series.

In this game, the Lions surpassed the mark for the most hits by a team in a Caribbean Series with 25 hits and surpassing the Tigres del Licey who had the mark since 1977.

The celebrations did not end there, as Caracas also broke the record for most runs in a single game with 20 runs, surpassing the Naranjeros de Hermosillo from Mexico who achieved the mark in 1990.

The first inning was positive for Cuba, who opened the scoring with a double by Yosvan Alarcón.

In the lower part of the first, the festival of runs by Caracas would begin, which began with a double by Wilfredo Tovar driving in Ali Castillo to tie the game at 1-1.

After that, the Lions began the route with a seven-run first inning offensive in which the entire Venezuelan line up participated.

In the bottom of the second Danry Vásquez returned to take center stage with a solo home run to right field. In that same inning, José Rondón hit a double to make it 9-1 against Hernán Pérez.

The Lions offense continued again in the bottom of the fourth with a double by Francisco Arcia to bat in José Rondón. Venezuela closed this inning at 12-2 thanks to a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly that scored Francisco Arcia.

In the bottom of the fifth Carlos Rivero batted in Wilfredo Tovar; Immediately afterwards, José Rondón hit a sacrifice fly so that Rivero would put the 14th run of the game on the board. The Lions would go on to score one in the sixth and five more in the eighth.

Colombia defeated Curacao 6-5 in the 13th innings

Columbia placed their record at 2-2 the same as Curacao in the standings

By GERARDO JAVIER ROMERO

FEBRUARY 5, 2023

Dayan Frias

Offensively, Dayan Frias (2-5, 1 R, 1 W, Played 2B, Batted 9th)

Frias walked in the 2nd
Flied out to second in the 4th
Grounded into a fielder's choice in the 6th

With Columbia trailing 4-2 top of the 9th, Frias led of the inning with a drag bunt single to first, the next batter walked Frias to second, a sacrifice bunt advanced Campero to second and Frias to third, a Diaz single batted in Frias and Campero to tie the game at 4-4 sending the game into extra inning as Columbia prevailed 6-5 in 13 innings.

With the extra inning rule in effect, Frias popped out to catcher trying to advance the runner on second to third. Columbia failed to score in the 11th.

After Columbia took a 6-4 lead in the top of the 13th inning, Frias singled for his second hit of the game.

Curacao gave Columbia a scare in the 13th scoring one run and leaving 2 men on base.

Defensively, Frias had eleven chances and fielded them flawlessly - I have the feeling he's more at home at second base - gotta think playing at second helped his offense also.

Sicnarf Loopstok (C, 2-5, W, RBI)

The Vaqueros de Montería of Colombia defeated the Curaçao team 5-4 in the Greater Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series, in a game that reached the 13th inning.

Colombia went ahead in the fourth inning thanks to a single by Jordan Díaz to send Gustavo Campero to the plate. After this they would score another run by Jesús Marriaga to make it 2-0.

Curaçao kept the game tight in the fourth inning with Sicnarf Loopstok's single to left field that allowed him to drive in Sharlon Schoop to make it a 2-1 ball bame.

Curacao turned the score around with a homer by big leaguer Andrelton Simmons to left field in the sixth inning and taking a 3-2 lead.

In the eighth inning, Curaçao scored one more thanks to Sharlon Schoop and adding to the lead 4-2.

In the top of the ninth, the Vaqueros de Montería tied the game on a hit by Jordan Díaz that allowed him to drive in Dayan Frías who led off the inning with a hit and Gustavo Campero followed with a walk. Acuna advanced Frias to third and Campero to second with a sacrifice bunt.

Such was the parity between the two teams that they ended up going to the extra innings. At that time, Columbia emerged triumphant in episode 13 with a double by Pabel Manzanero to bat in Jesús Marriaga. With the bases empty and two outs, Pertuz homered over the center field wall.

Curacao would mount a threat in the home half of the inning where they scored once and left two men in scoring position.
