Vaqueros went ahead in the semifinal against Caimanes

by Manuel Ortega Ponce |

Dayan Frias (2B - Hitting Second In the Lineup - Monteria)
AB 4, R 1, H 3, DBL 2, RBI 0, BB 0, SO 0, AVG .370, OPS 1.130

Frias doubled to left center in the first, grounded out 3U in the third, doubled to right center and scored in the sixth, bunt single to shortstop in the seventh,

A two-run home run by Derwin Pomare and the chaos of the Caimanes relievers in the sixth inning led Vaqueros to a 6-3 victory in the first game of the semifinal of the Colombian Professional Baseball League played this Tuesday in Montería.

Pomare homered in the second inning off Venezuelan starter Carlos Quevedo, with Jordan Díaz on the base.

Caimanes tied it 2-2 in the fourth after they loaded the bases after singles by Dilson Herrera and Carlos Arroyo and a walk to Andrés Álvarez. Carlos Martínez received a walk driving in a run from third. Evan Mendoza produced the tie with a sacrifice fly that brought Arroyo to the plate.

Vaqueros took the lead again in the sixth when left-handed reliever Kevin Escorcia surrendered a double to Dayan Frías and, with two outs on the board, walked Daniel Vellojín. Caimanes' manager, José Mosquera brought in Jeffry Niño to pitch to the right handed hitter, who threw a wild pitch and gave two consecutive walks to Jordan Díaz and Derwin Pomare, which allowed Frías to score from third.

The worst for Caimanes was yet to come. Pabel Manzanero hit a slow grounder to second base, Carlos Arroyo hit the ball, but he couldn't put Pomare out on that base, which Vellojín and Díaz took advantage of to come to the plate and make the game 5-2.

Caimanes cut the difference to two runs in the seventh after Gustavo Campero doubled and was driven in by Harold Ramírez's single.

But, in the eighth, Vaqueros moved away again with a run scored by Jordan Díaz and an RBI single by Brayan Buelvas.

Carlos Quevedo pitched five innings for Caimanes and allowed three hits and two runs. He was relieved by Kevin Escorcia, who worked two thirds and was the losing pitcher. Jeffry Niño (0.1) and Melvin Jiménez (2.0) also came on the mound, giving up one run each.

The victory was credited to Samuel Burgos, who came to the rescue of starter Julio Vivas, who threw four innings. The game save went to Francisco Carrillo, who hung up the last three outs.

The second game of the series will be this Wednesday again starting at 7:00 pm in Montería. They broadcast Telecaribe and Win.

Vaqueros one win away from going to the final playoff

by Manuel Ortega Ponce | Jan 11, 2023

Dayan Frias (2B - Hitting Second - Monteria)
AB 4, R 0, H 1, RBI 0, BB 0, SO 2, AVG .368, OP 1.107

Dayan Frias struck out in the first, struck out leading off the fourth, grounded out 3U in the fifth, and singled in the eighth.

A triple by Derwin Pomare and then a wild pitch by Francisco López marked the difference between Vaqueros and Caimanes on Wednesday in the second game of the semifinal.

Montería won 1-0 and will arrive with a 2-0 advantage in the third game of the series that will be played on Friday. If they win, Vaqueros will be the rival of Tigres in the championship round.

Like Tuesday, when he hit a two-run home run to put his team ahead, Pomare led off the fifth inning with a triple off starter Omar Bencomo, whose work culminated after that drive. It was the Vaqueros' first hit of the game.

Bencomo was relieved by Francisco López, who made a wild pitch as Pomare scored the only run of the game.

Caimanes, who only had four hits: two by Andrés Álvarez and two by Harold Ramírez, wasted the chance to score in the third when they had the bases loaded with one out, but Dilson Herrera nor Alexander Romero struck out.

Vaqueros, who had five hits, lost their starter Porfirio López by expulsion before the start of the sixth inning, after umpire Michael Tibabijo, after checking his glove, discovered that it had a prohibited substance in it.

Despite this, López, who allowed three hits and struck out four, was the winning pitcher. In his relief came Carlos Mario Díaz, who worked an entry. Luis Pacheco also one inning and Jorge Martínez two for the save.

For Caimanes, the loser was Bencomo, who worked four innings, allowed one hit, one run, three walks and struck out three batters. Francisco López (0.2), Reiver Sanmartín (1.1), Jay Peralta (1.0) and Deivy Méndez (1.0) also pitched in relief.

Estrellas advances to championship round after eliminating the Aguilas based on home runs

Santo Domingo .

The Estrellas Orientales returns to the championship series of Dominican baseball after beating the Águilas Cibaeñas 3-2, thanks to three home runs by Estrellas, two of them in the first inning, in a game played this Wednesday at the Cibao Stadium.

In this way, they secured their pass to the championship round by reaching a 10-6 mark in the round-robin games and eliminating, incidentally, the Eagles (6-10), with only two games remaining to conclude this round robin semifinal.

Estrellas returns for the second consecutive time to the championship series of Dominican baseball, a feat that they repeat for the first time since the 1986-87 and 1987-88 campaigns, when they faced the Águilas and the Leones del Escogido, respectively.

Gustavo Núñez and Jeimer Candelario each hit a home run in the first inning. The third home run came from Junior Lake's bat, the three homers were against the stellar lefty Roenis Elías, who did not present his usual effectiveness in the game, in his return to play after personal commitments.

Edwin Uceta pitched five complete innings of four hits, one walk and three strikeouts to earn the win and Ronel Blanco got the save by throwing one and two-thirds innings of one hit and one walk. In the ninth he gave up a walk to Melky Cabrera, later replaced by Yefri Pérez. Blanco dominated Johan Camargo with a fly ball to right field to define the victory.

In this way, the bullpen took over from the third inning on the arms of Jesús Sánchez (0.0 IP, 2H, 1 ER), Cristofer Ogando (0.2 IP), Brayan Pérez (0.0 IP, 1H, 2BB, 1 ER), Luis Madero (2.0 IP), Gómez (0.2 IP, 1H, 2 ER), José Adames (1.1 IP, 2H 1ER) and Darwinzón Hernández (1.0 IP).

Magallanes fell for the third game in a row

For the third game in a row, the Navegantes del Magallanes were unable to prevail over their rival and this time they were defeated, with a final score of 9-4, against the Tiburones de La Guaira at the José Bernardo Pérez Stadium in Valencia.

Félix Doubront who could not complete a good job by accumulating 3.2 innings with seven hits and four earned runs, thus allowing the Aragua team to add runs little by little to lead towards victory.

La Guaira produced one in the first inning, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the ninth. The most outstanding being Ehire Adrianza who hit a double and a home run to bat in three runs and score one more.

For their part, the Magallanes offense, as has been the constant in this round-robin, had problems producing, as they left nine runners on the bases and went 1-7 with runners in scoring position. In this sense, the eighth inning was definitive in the outcome of the game when with three runners on base, two outs and the score 6 to 4, Cade Gotta struck out out.

Alberto González: I was surprised by the call, but I did not miss it

"Tico" hadn't been to the plate since Dec. 27, but he was the hero for the Turks on Friday night

By yelimar requena-January 14, 2023

He hadn't even taken a turn in all of the playoffs, but on Friday he was Magallanes' hero in a 5-3 win over the Cardenales, the first for the Turks on the road. Alberto González showed that he is always ready to help the team.

Although it took him by surprise that they gave him a chance to hit, Alberto González appealed to his experience of 18 years and took the opportunity to remind the team of everything he is capable of doing.

He came on in the sixth inning, substituting for Cade Gotta, with men in scoring position. He converted a sinker off Andres Sotillet and turned it into a two-run single.

"It was surprising for me, after so long without seeing a pitcher, but I was always waiting for them to give me a turn or put me in to play defense," said "tico" in a video shared by the electrical press department.

Can Portuarios be champion of the Elite League?

JANUARY 13, 2023 | BORIS LUIS CABRERA

After the exciting victory of the Portuarios against the Centrales during the playoffs of the Cuban Baseball Elite League, there will not be a fan of these warriors who does not believe in the possibility of seeing them perched on the top raising the trophy of champions.

They reached the semifinals with the most powerful offense in the playoffs and will face the Agricultores who boasted a pitching staff with enough arms and bats to face them as the mercilessly devastated Tabacaleros in just four games, to leave a clear message to anyone who tried to challenge them in the championship round.

At this point, individual records or statistics, experience and history, names and medals that hang on their chests do not matter. This evening the battle for supremacy begins as Portuarios faces off against the dominating Agricultores.

Baseball is an unpredictable sport where subjective factors have enormous weight and that will dictate the laws in this final series.

Let's support ours. See you at the stadium.

The finals of the Elite Baseball League begins with an 11-11 "tie"

A game of 22 runs, 34 hits and many used pitchers could not end in the sunlight.

Saturday, January 14, 2023 06:29 PM

Havana.-

The teams of Portuarios and Agricultores sealed the initial game of their series of the grand finale of the First Elite League of Cuban Baseball with an 11-run tie, after nine innings .

The westerners had 16 hits, made no errors and used a good part of their pitching staff.

The Orientals lost their first pitcher, the right-hander César García, in the first inning. However, Kelbis Rodríguez came to his rescue, withstood the Portuarios attack and helped his team tie the game at halftime. By the way, they had 18 hits, including home runs.

However, Carlos Martí's men also suffered problems with their bullpen and made three errors on defense, all of which gave life to those led by Michael González.

Time after time on the scoreboard, time after time substitution on the mound , consumed time and natural lighting at the Martirés de Barbados stadium in Bayamés, where this game will resume on Sunday starting at 10 am

The tiebreaker rule will be applied from the tenth inning and therefore the hostilities could end before the 12th inning.

If this happens, the second game of the finals will begin half an hour after the conclusion, if not, on Monday at the usual time.

A motivated fans supported the team from Granma and Las Tunas, and will surely return to the stadium from Bayamés on Sunday. That could be a key day in these finals.

At stake is the crown of the League and especially the ticket to the Caribbean Baseball Series of Gran Caracas 2023.
