Andres Gimenez (Lara – Game 1, SS): 2-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Gimenez was responsible for all there Cardenal runs in the opener of Sunday’s doubleheader, scoring the first after leading off the fifth frame with a single to center and providing a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh and final frame of the contest on a two-run blast to right.

Cardenales took two against Águilas
The two victories returned the Cardenales to first place in the LVBP standings

The Cardinals of Lara retook the leadership of the LVBP after defeating the Águilas del Zulia in the double header on Sunday. Lara relied on the good pitching of Max Castillo and Vicente Campos, winner and the save of the game respectively, for a final score at 3-0.
In that game, the offensive was provided by Juniel Querecuto with a sacrifice fly and a home run by Andrés Giménez.
The second game saw a display of power by both teams, where Lara once again dominated 9-7.
The first game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Lara would score the first run. Andrés Giménez lead off the inning with a base hit and scored on a sacrifice fly by Juniel Querecuto rbi single opened the scoring giving the Cardenales a 1-0 lead. The other two runs would come in the upper part of the seventh inning on the first home run by Andrés Giménez. The shortstop would go 2-for-3 with a single, home run and two RBIs. Gorkys Hernández also stood out by going 1-3 with a run scored.
Andres Gimenez (Lara – Game 2, SS): 0-4 – Apparently, Gimenez used up all of his offensive production for the day in Game 1.

Oscar Gonzalez (Estrellas, backup RF): 0-2 – Gonzalez was similarly unspectacular in the lone Guardians action in LIDOM yesterday.
Jonathan Rodriguez (Equipo Metro, starting LF): 0-1, 1 K – J-Rod struck out in his only appearance in the ASG, but he can be excused for being a little tired, as he smacked 23 dingers en route to a runner-up finish in the pregame Home Run Derby.

The Metro stars win the APPPR All-Star Game

A two-run rally from the Metro team at the top of the eighth inning gave them a 2-0 victory against the team from the Island, in today's action, Sunday, of the All-Star Game of the Association of Professional Baseball Players of Puerto Rico, held at the Isidoro García de Mayagüez.
In turn, the Metro team used 10 pitchers who handcuffed the Island's offense, with Jean Félix Ortega being the winning pitcher by working for one inning.
Bryan Torres opened the scoring with a double to center. Next, Roy Morales grounded out to shortstop that brought Torres to third.
Then, Jadiel Sánchez hit an RBI single for the first run of the game.
Immediately afterwards, Aldemar Burgos continued the offensive attack with a single to right and the veteran Pablo Sandoval was in charge of bringing the second run in for the visitors with a single to left.
Sánchez finished the night with 3 hits of 4 attempts, an RBI and a run scored to earn Game Most Valuable Player.
Jake Newberry came in relief for the Island and was charged the loss by allowing two runs. Roy Geigel pitched a third inning for the save.
Earlier, Daniel Ortiz clinched the home run title by dominating the home run contest against Jonathan Rodríguez who had 23 homers. In round two, Ortiz hit 19 homers, being the absolute leader of the competition.
