Jan 17, 2022

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS, RD.- The Stars have a good offense, a good pitching staff and a solid defense for the Final Series that will begin this Monday (7:30 pm), at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium, against the Cibao Giants.

Ruotolo will join a group of relievers that includes right-handers Diógenes Almengó, Wirfin Obispo, Daniel Duarte, Ramón Santos, Gerson Moreno, Warner Madrigal, Román Méndez, Chester Pimentel, Fernando Rodney, Claudio Custodio; along with lefties Fernando Aada, Samuel Zazueta and Luis González. Right-hander Wei-Chieh Huang will also come in from the bullpen for long relief.

Also in the speed in the running of the bases of men like Lake, Núñez, Peña, Almonte, Martínez and Alfredo Reyes.

Manager Fernando Tatis, along with bench coach Pedro López, pitching coach Julio Rangel, hitting coach Mike Tosar, give the Stars an experienced group at the head of the coaching staff. José Mejía, third base coach; and Miguel Bernard, first base coach, make up a qualified staff in the direction of the runners.

On defense, the Stars have such outstanding players as catcher Bethancourt, first baseman Navarro, second baseman Núñez, shortstop Peña and left fielder Lake.

Third baseman Leyba, midfielder Almonte and backup Reyes are also good defensive players.

Peterson and Gose among best relievers of the 2021-22 season

December 29, 2021

he best relievers of the tournament 2021-22

In recent decades they have become a vital part of the game of baseball.

Today's starters have noticeably lessened their workload, such that today's starting pitcher who gets 5 innings is told "you did your job."

That's why relievers play such an important role in modern baseball. While it's true that closers with their " Rock Star " profile get most of the stardom, every team's bullpen has men who do a great job. vital in the middle of games to slow down the opposing offense and give his team a chance to get ahead on the scoreboard.

We did an exercise with the relievers of the LIDOM 2021-22 tournament considering the aspects that we understood to be most relevant to evaluate the performance of this type of pitcher. The boxes considered were:

games pitched
IT WAS
WHIP
K/9 (strikeouts per 9 IP)
holds
saves
GF (completed games)
Inherited Runners Left On Base (INHR%)
BAA (Average Against)

We considered how the reliever ranked in each of these aspects, considering pitchers with at least 12 innings pitched. The average of the rankings of these 9 boxes produced our list of the best relievers of 2021-22 in LIDOM, we started with the top 10 in reverse.

10. ENYEL DE LOS SANTOS - TIGRES DEL LICEY
The experienced right-hander in the majors had one of the best strikeout-per-9-inning ratios in the league, with minuscule ERA as well as his average against.

The right-hander is already making a name for himself as one of the strongest middle relievers in the league. With 5 holds, 1 save, 4 games completed, a masterful 1.27 ERA and standing 85.7% of legacy running backs, he ranked 2nd in our ranking.

100% of the runners he found on base did not score, being also the best in this aspect. With 5 holds and 4 games finished, he topped our ranking as the best reliever of 2021-22.

Miami will host the 2024 Baseball Caribbean Series

Sunday, January 16, 2022

Havana.- THE CONFEDERATION of Professional Baseball of the Caribbean (CBPC) informed today of an agreement to take the 2024 Caribbean Series to the Loan Depot Park stadium, in Miami, United States.

The event will return to South Florida 33 years after the last time (1991), thanks to a deal with the Marlins franchise.

The event annually pits the champions of the winter tournaments of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, plus occasional or permanent guests.

At this time, Colombia and Panama appear with that last status, after the thunderous departure of Cuba at the beginning of 2020 due to serious differences with the CBPC.

The most important of these has to do with status precisely, since Cuba claims its right to be a full member of the CBPC, which could not "take hold" during its return to the contest between 2014 and 2019.

Just a few days ago, Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, national baseball commissioner in Cuba, confirmed that there is currently no type of dialogue with the CBPC for the return of the island's champion to the Caribbean match.

In this way, the logical tensions and doubts that would arise in the event of an eventual assistance by Cubans to Miami in 2024 are not in sight.

Last year the main Cuban team went to Florida for the pre-Olympic tournament of the Americas, during which it faced political provocations and incitements to defect from several of its members.

Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, commissioner of the CBPC, also announced this Saturday the remaining venues for the event until 2027.

Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, will host the 2022 event from January 28 to February 3. Caracas in 2023, Miami in 2024, Mexicali in 2025, a Puerto Rican city to be determined in 2026 and Hermosillo in 2027.

CUBA #61 NATIONAL BASEBALL SERIES 2022 BEGINS ON JANUARY 21

Image

Eriandy Ramón is already in the Dominican Republic.

The exits of Cuban prospects continue: 'they still don't see a future in baseball on the Island'

07 Jan 2022

"The prospect Eriandy Ramón left Cuba in recent hours and is already in the Dominican Republic ," sports journalist Francys Romero reported this Friday . Ramón follows the disbandment of young baseball players on the Island in recent weeks.

The man from Matanzas joined Cuba teams from from the lower leagues. He was the second baseman in the U-15 World Cup held in Panama during 2018 . In that world tournament he had 16 plate appearaances with four hits, .250, three runs scored, four walks and three strikeouts, Romero said.

" Nine players out of a total of 20 have already emigrated from that 2018 team , which shows that the Cuban baseball player between 13-19 years old still does not see a future in baseball on the island ," said the journalist.

In the middle of last year, he was in the preselection that would go to the U-18 World Cup organized by the WBSC, which was ultimately suspended. In his last National Youth Championship, he compiled with the Matanzas team a line of .273/.410/.355, five doubles, two triples, playing 292 innings between second base and shortstop.

Eriandy Ramón, 19, will seek to sign with a Major League Baseball ( MLB ) organization. He has an excellent arm and hits left-handed with remarkable contact. Several coaches saw Ramón as one of the shortstops with the most projection in the entire country , added Francys Romero.

More than 635 baseball players of any age and through dissimilar routes have left Cuba in the last six years , according to figures from the state National Institute of Sports , Physical Education and Recreation ( INDER ) .

Two prospects left Cuba in the first four days of 2022 : industrialist outfielder Orestes Reyes , 21, and José Ramón Alfonso , 22.

A few days before the start of the National Baseball Series , which will begin on January 21, uncertainties around the tournament are growing due to the disappearance of Yunior Tur and the isolation of Los Leñadores de Las Tunas due to several cases of Covid-19 , he said. the journalist Enrique del Pozo in DIARIO DE CUBA.

And the conga continues: another baseball prospect leaves Cuba

José Ramón Alfonso is the second prospect to leave the Island in the first four days of the year.

05 Jan 2022

What sounds in Cuban baseball, barely beginning in 2022, is not the conga from Santiago, but the conga of the prospects who are leaving . At this rate, the news will be that a month ends without the departure of a young baseball talent from the Island. As journalist Francys Romero publishes on his blog , the 22-year-old José Ramón Alfonso arrived in the Dominican Republic at night and will try to sign with a Major League organization .

Romero describes this young man as a versatile player, who can not only play defense in all three outfield, but also at second and third base, as well as shortstop....

This young man comes from a family of baseball players in which he had two examples to follow: his father and namesake played in 15 National Series in Cuba. He was also a versatile player, contact and speed. In three seasons he hit over .300 and stole more than 100 bases throughout his career. On the other hand, his brother Edgar Brian Alfonso signed with the Los Angeles Angels for a bonus of $200,000, in mid-2021 .

It is evident that the young José Ramón Alfonso has decided to follow the path of his brother and will now go through the process to become a free agent and obtain residency. Once you have completed both steps, you will be able to show yourself to Major League scouts and seek the signing of a contract as a professional.

His departure from Cuba took place just three days apart from that of industrialist outfielder Orestes Reyes , the first baseball prospect to leave the island in 2022 , who is also in the Dominican Republic.

The neighboring country has become the first stop for young Cuban baseball players seeking to make their way in the best baseball in the world and prosper economically , without needing the state Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) to intervene as an intermediary in their contracts or get involved in any human trafficking network.

José Ramón Alfonso Jr.'s departure for the Dominican Republic comes a day after the official Cuban press revealed that more than 635 baseball players left the island in the last six years.

In an article, official journalist Joel García León, from the newspaper Trabajadores , recognized that the exodus of athletes has become a problem for the Cuban sports movement , but places the responsibility on external reasons rather than internal ones. García León evades mentioning that the late Fidel Castro eliminated professionalism in sports on the Island, mainly in baseball , and described professional baseball as slave baseball.

Judging by the way 2022 has started, with the departure of two prospects from Cuba in the first four days , this year Cuban baseball could set a record for young talents who leave the country in search of proving themselves in the best baseball in the world. world and prosper economically.
