Ahh, there are a few left.

The way I look at this season, no one picked the Mets last year, not even close. With their pitching they hung around and it was actually the addition of 2 boring veterans (Kelly Johnson and Uribe) that started the offensive spark. From there they got Cespedes and took off to the Series.

So I can pooh pooh the offense all I want (and I will) but it did happen last year very similarly. In July everyone was saying "yeah, but the Mets have no offense."

In fact, with Lindor, Kipnis and Brantley (add in Santana and Gomes if you want) you certainly could argue the Indians have more offense than those Mets did.

I think Gomes is key to the offense and should be perfectly capable of hitting like he did in 2014. He'd bat 5th and supply power. Davis could follow and he's not bad. I sure hope we don't have to rely on Chisenhall as our No. 5 hitter: Lonnie has still not proven a thing and it sure wouldn't surprise me if he ends up back in Columbus.

OK, here's one I don't get. Murphy signs a minor league deal, and our outfield sucks. Basically, his numbers last year would look gold standard in our present outfield. I know he's no superstar, but he would be an upgrade -isn't that all that counts?

David Murphy - OF - Red Sox

Red Sox signed OF David Murphy to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Murphy was a first-round pick of the Red Sox in 2003, so this will be a kind of homecoming. But it's not clear how he fits. The 34-year-old batted just .283/.318/.421 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI in 132 games last season between the Indians and Angels, and the Red Sox have a talented and crowded outfield leading into the 2016 season. Consider Murphy organizational depth for now.

Is he cheap?

I can't find any rhyme or reason for much of what's been going on so far in this off season. But! What's new?

I am not very pleased with the way this front office is sharing the wealth so far. Nearly 40 million dollars in one year contracts is crazy!

If Murphy does make the big-league roster, then his major-league salary is for $2 million.

That's all I ever look for and wouldn't stop looking for.

How many of those 40 million dollar, one year contacts make for any significant upgrades ?!?!!? How many make it to Cleveland out of spring training??

Then you have Murphy! Someone that could actually help and has the distinct possibility of breaking camp and coming North for only two million dollars.

Crazy!

joez - as you know, I am not nearly as cynical about the operations as you are. But yes, in this situation (a low risk, inexpensive option) I am baffled.

kenm - yes, he is cheap.

If you were hoping to snag a ticket to the Cleveland Indians' home opener, we hope you've bought them already.

This morning, just 40 minutes after tickets went on sale, the team announced the game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, April 4, is already sold out.

They play the Red Sox on April 6 and 7 as well, in case that matters. Tickets to those games are still available, as are PLENTY of tickets to the 78 other games that follow the opening series.
