"We felt some of the other decisions would have been not as beneficial for our team had we taken someone else off the roster."
Considering that among those retained on the roster include 28 year old Lefty reliever Kirby Yates who's ERA in 2015 was 7.97; catcher Tony Wolters whose 2 years in AA have yielded an OPS of just about 600; 28 year old Jerry Sands a corner man with major league career totals of 8 homers and 675 OPS,

that's quite a putdown of Johnson!

The 30-year-old scuffled to a 6.75 ERA in 46 2/3 innings last year after posting outstanding run prevention numbers in each of the prior two campaigns. But there were some indications of bad luck, and Cleveland will see if the soft-tossing, needle-threading Otero can return to his standing as an understated but high-performing reliever.

Previous 2 seasons, ERAs of 1.38, then 2.28.

64 hits allowed last year in those 46 2/3 innings probably including many pop ups that got lost in the sun, squibb grounders that hardly made it half way to 3rd base, and a bunch of a calls at first that could have gone either way. Subtract the bad luck and there probably would have been no more 45 hits, although I'm not sure we excuse the 7 homers. Heavy breezes I guess.

Carlos Carrasco - S - Indians

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Dodgers "are engaged in ongoing trade talks" with the Indians and Rays regarding starting pitching.

After losing out in the Zack Greinke bidding and the Hisashi Iwakuma falling through, the speculation has been that Los Angeles would use some prospects to seek rotation help via trade. Morosi lists Carlos Carrasco, Danny Salazar and Jake Odorizzi as potential targets for the Dodgers.

All three hurlers would cost quite a bit, but the Dodgers need an arm.

I didn't realize how many baseball writers I followed on Twitter until I logged on there this morning and saw 50 different guys reporting that Mike Leake was signing with Cardinals.

Everyone in Cardinals front office and Mike Leake's agents' staff must have a different writer they Leake information to.
