Joba Chamberlain - R - Indians

Indians signed RHP Joba Chamberlain to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

After recent stops with the Tigers and Royals, Chamberlain will stay in the American League Central. The 30-year-old posted a 4.88 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings at the major league level this season and will attempt to win a bullpen job in the spring.

He might be OK as long as no swarms of bugs come in from the lake.

Relievers who flop with the Tigers are usually at the end of the line.

If the Price for Price is $31M a year, I can see a lot of teams interested in picking up Carrasco who might be just as good [of course has not proven it over a sustained period] for pennies on that dollar.

As a cheap team why wouldnt we just keep him or is that too obvious for this brain trust?

On a related note I read that the moron himself Wedgeee is in line to get a front office position with his old partner Shapiro. How did that Brandon Phillips trade workout Wedgeee? Of course Shapiro loves to chirp about the original trade that brought those three guys to Cleveland in return for the washed up donkey loving tricycle riding friend of Manny Bartolo Colon. Of course Colon is still pitching and I am trouble even remembering the other guys'names. Who decided to waste Lee's season the last year we were any good so he didnt pitch in the post season when he could have come in handy?

Nick Hagadone - R - Indians

Indians designated LHP Nick Hagadone for assignment.
The Indians needed to make a corresponding move after trading for Collin Cowgill from the Angels. Hagadone's designation would be the aforementioned corresponding move. He held a 4.28 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 28/12 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings, but suffered a fractured left elbow in mid-June and subsequently missed the remainder of the 2015 campaign. He should be ready to pitch by the start of the 2016 season.

Collin Cowgill - OF - Indians

Indians acquired OF Collin Cowgill from the Angels for cash considerations.
A wrist injury sidelined Cowgill from May through August, though he did manage a cup of coffee in September. The 29-year-old outfielder struggled in 69 at-bats with the Angels, hitting just .188/.233/.290 with a singular home run. He'll serve as bench depth for the Indians.

They say this every time they sign some bum:

"Collin's a guy we've liked for quite a while," said Chris Antonetti, the Indians' president of baseball operations. "He's a right-handed-hitting outfielder that's capable of playing all three outfield spots. He's a very good defender in the corners and very capable in center field as well. And he's had some success against left-handed pitching.

The Indians wasted little time in avoiding arbitration with Cowgill by agreeing to terms on a one-year, $1 million contract for the upcoming season. [Not bad money for a .188 average]

CLE/SF talked about possible Carlos Carrasco deal, with CLE asking about Brandon Belt and Joe Panik. Those discussions then faded.

Thank Goodness. All we needed was another 2B!

Ok, how about 3B then?

Nationals expected to shop 3B Yunel Escobar

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, there is an expectation that the Nationals will try to shop Yunel Escobar at next week's Winter Meetings in Nashville.

This seems like a case of Washington trying to capitalize on a weak free agent market at third base.

Escobar posted a strong .314/.375/.415 batting line with nine home runs and 56 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Nationals. The 33-year-old is owed $7 million in 2016 and carries a $7 million club option (or $1 million buyout) for 2017.

To me, this is an example of a perfect fit. As well as a realistic target for the Tribe.

He plays 3B. Is right handed. Good fielder.

Very reasonable contract, and potentially only 1 year if he sucks.

That said, AS ALWAYS, it depends on the price. But he's right in the wheelhouse of what the Tribe needs, and what they
could realistically acquire.
