I'm sure Johnson's name is back on the waiver wire. Maybe they can package him, Santana and some money for somebody with a big upside.
LOL, you go seagull - love it when you think optimistically! And boy, that's optimistic.

Hey, on the bright side even Billy Beane makes completely ill fated signings:

Billy Butler - DH - Athletics

Billy Butler - In the first season of a three-year, $30 million contract, Butler has hit just .239/.306/.366 with nine homers and 47 RBI.

Bottom line is that Beane has never won anything.

Great trade for the Indians in many ways.

They basically traded Murphy and a couple of million a year for Johnson.

Cleared roster spots to see new blood. Eliminated Swisher and Bourne from next year.

Then told Santana, Brantley, Kipnis, and Gomes to step up and take charge.

Whats not to like ?

Not sure who's available to take Anderson's spot. House is on the Columbus DL. Roth hasn't pitched for several weeks while sitting at the back of the Tribe bullpen. They have Murata pitching well but he pitched like a career minor leaguer in his one Tribe start. Aggressive moves would be to bring up Plutko or Clevinger from Akron where both have done very well.

Almonte adds to our collection of minor league outfielders on the major league roster.

beyond Lindor at the top of the draft, the Tribe made some gutsy picks in rounds 14-23, going well over slot to sign three pitchers: Cody Anderson, Cody Allen and Shawn Armstrong. All have now reached the majors. That's got to being one of their best drafts in ages, despite making a very very dumb pick and wasting $1.8M on rotten kid Dillon Howard who managed to report out of shape his first spring, earn a drug suspension the next, and "retire" before he was 20.
A couple more picks who still could make it are LHPs Ryan Merritt and Shawn Morimando and RH reliever Jeff Johnson, all doing pretty well in Akron this year.

For a season that’s been so frustrating, Corey Kluber sure has put together some brilliant performances.

Last year’s AL Cy Young winner did it again on Sunday, bringing a no-hitter into the seventh inning vs. Minnesota and finishing the game to pick up his seventh win. Kluber allowed one run on three hits, one walk, and fanned 10 Twins batters on exactly 100 pitches.

Kluber’s ERA fell to 3.46, though he still leads the AL in losses (12). For stats that are more meaningful, he ranks tied for second in the AL in strikeouts and eighth in WHIP among starting pitchers. His 63 percent quality start rate is well below last year’s 76 percent, but Kluber’s peripheral numbers are almost right in line with what he produced last season.

His ERA indicators show a much better pitcher than we’ve seen to this point, and hopefully one who will continue to ascend down the stretch. Before Sunday’s start, Kluber ranked fifth among all MLB starters in FIP and eighth in SIERA, two ERA metrics that are telling of his dominance this season.
