First Carlos Gomez, now a rumor out of Miami that the Indians have been talking to the Marlins about their young CF'er, Marcell Ozuna.

Tribe clearly looking for a replacement for Bourn.

What position did Murphy play?

David Murphy has been removed from the Indians lineup.

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired outfielder David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

I didn't expect a great prospect for Murphy, but thought we could do better than this Eric Stamets kid. He's in his second season at AA and thru both years he's hit 240 with 7 homers.

I dunno, looks like a worse version of Jose Ramirez to me. Defensive SS and speed guy off the bench that can't hit. Pretty worthless. We gave Murphy away. Salary dump.

Woulda been better off with a couple thousand Hot Dogs to give away......that would at least bring more people to the stadium than a guy who may see a couple big league innings somewhere in 2017....

Indians just lost their 8th straight home game. First time in Jacobs Field era, and hadn't lost that many straight at home since 1975.

Coming out of this deal, the Jays could look to add another option in left field, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. He also cites a report from Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun regarding the failure of Toronto’s recent attempt to pry Carlos Carrasco away from the Indians. Hoffman would have been a part of that deal, along with highly-regarded prospects Daniel Norris and Dalton Pompey, which could explain in part how things worked out. (It’s also an indication of what kind of price Carrasco could command.)

I said trade Murphy and all the other parttime OFs for anyone other than a middle infielder. So they traded Murphy for a middle inflielder. Thanky you. Kid sounds worse than Donald, more like that Sellers we got a couple of years ago in some other deal, barely likely to ever play a game in the majors. All Stamets does is give the RubberDucks some infield defense for their stretch run for the EL playoffs.

BA says of this bum:

Eric Stamets is an excellent defensive shortstop, but the questions have surrounded his bat going back to his days at Evansville. Stamets has sure hands, good range and an accurate average arm. But his swing is not conducive to doing more than putting the ball in play. He’s never slugged .400 in a season, including a trip through the hitter-happy California League. In a repeat trip to Double-A Arkansas, Stamets has improved but is still posting a sub-.675 OPS. Stamets ranked 23rd among the Angels’ Top 30 Prospects coming into the season and did not come close to cracking the midseason Top 10. With bottom-of-the-scale power and not enough pop to shoot balls consistently through the infield, Stamets projects more as a potential utility infielder than an everyday regular.
