If he doesn't have Napoli or a big bat acquisition at first base, I think Francona has to give Aguilar a good look this spring. A handful of at bats isn't going to cut it. If that happens, Aguilar has to seize the moment. Personally, I believe Aguilar is ready. All he needs is Francona's patience this spring.

LIONS BLEACHED TIGERS IN THE FIRST OF 2

Caracas.-

A good job by starter Luke Irvine and timely hits were the formula for the Lions of Caracas to white wash 3-0 over the Tigres de Aragua, this Tuesday at University Stadium Caracas, in the first game of the double header between the two teams .

Irvine claimed the win by working six innings, allowing five hits and struck out three. His opponant was Austin Bibens-Dirkx, who suffered his fourth setback of the year by surrendering the three Lions runs. The first run came in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Guzman.

The advantage of the Lions was extended in the fifth inning, thanks to a double by Wilfredo Tovar that allowed Ramón Cabrera to score. Jesus Aguilar then connected for his tenth homer of the campaign in the sixth inning to complete the scoring for the Lions.

"I told my boys that we had to go out again and give 150 percent to win," manager Yorvit Torrealba said. We needed a starter that would give us innings and he did it, thanks to that we have all the pitchers available for the second game. "

Irvine left in the seventh inning (only 7 inning games are played during double header days). "Irvine felt pain in the sixth inning but he is a warrior and wanted to continue throwing, so he left for the seventh but could not perform," said Torrealba.

Saving the victory was Juan Carlos Gutierrez who managed his eighth save of the year and fifth save in the last five games and equaled Jorge Julio Tapia as historic leaders of the Lions with 32 career saves.

"Thank God things are going well. I hope this is not my last game. I want to return in January, "said the closer. "We've always had a pretty good group. We are all a family and that gives praise to the team. "
