It's a Champagne Super Nova....
I think I might have been getting high with a super hot chick in short shorts in 1973 named "Kim."

497TFISC- At least the punks didn't hurt you physically.
That's worth a smile.
Their karmic debt for this encounter will be hefty. Too bad we don't get to see these paid off.

Re: Idle Chatter
498Thanks for the thoughts RR.
Of course my decision to get involved was calculated. The guy with the knife wasn't much taller than me, and it certainly wasn't a Crocodile Dundee model. I just didn't catch the setup and theft angle. I had my plainclothes sandbox security job for Sears and A Mall many years ago and I have taken a knife or broken bottle from many before. And one gun. My mother made me take jujitsu at the Akron Y with a cool kid who was the son of my Dad's boss and was having trouble avoiding not getting beat up occasionally on his way home from school. Jujitsu moves stay with you for life, I believe.
As I was watching this stuff go down on the BART train, I flashed back to a night about seven years ago as I was coming back from an A's game with my Dad and youngest and only male kid. There were some gang bangers in our train car and one little punk was talking trash and threats to and with another young drunk guy in the back of the car near our seats. I immediately suspected it was a gang initiation thing. My Dad and son were seated, and I was standing in the aisle and they were both glancing at me and it was obvious they were uncomfortable.
The young gang banger giving the threats was flanked by four of his bigger and silent "friends." I slowly edged closer to the action to be able to protect others as needed.
I was calculating what was about to happen and glancing around for who else might get involved in a positive way if something went down. There were two big "farm boy" tourists I guess with their girls on the train near us but I calculated they were marshmellows at that particular moment.
I knew I could wrap up the instigator and take him down if he produced a weapon, but also knew I would need more good guy involvement should it escalate....with my Dad and young kid there.
As I was ciphering, the young punk produced a broken liquor bottle and thrust it into the face and eye of the guy he was "bantering" with. Blood spewed and the gang bangers dashed off as the train stopped at a station and I gave fruitless chase down the stairs and then decided I should go back to the injured victim.
I got on the intercom with the train operator and called BART police and gave a futile description of the attacker and his comrades.
A girl joined me to give aid to the victim and we pressed to stop the blood flow.
She said, "I'm so glad there was an undercover cop on this train." And so did the other people in the seats around us.
I told them I was not an undercover cop. They mostly said, "we know you have to say that."
On the way home my kid was impressed that everyone thought I was an undercover cop.
I vowed to myself that if was ever in the same type situation again I would take physical action more quickly. That vow cost me $260 the other night as I misread the lay of the land.
Good news is that the betting public let the 8 horse in the 8th race go off at a generous 3-2. She was a big bruising filly and in the paddock it was obvious she was ready to run. Her connections were there in the paddock in a claiming race and THAT'S one of my fave betting angles. I didn't even cap the race. My wife and I went for the last few races today and I told her I didn't want a form, we were just going to cap based upon seeing the horses and the paddock.
My $200 wager got me $500 back at the window and I choose to think a Higher Being might have been looking to get my lost play money back to me.
Though he or she might have just rested on the 7th day and said Tribe Fan in SC/Cali is a good gambler and he'll get it back himself.

499Oh, Geez.
I fall asleep waiting for an Austin City Limits on PBS, and wake up to Elvin Bishop and I Fooled Around and Fell in Love.
Been there, and did!

Re: Idle Chatter
500I picked another $400 profit at the track today.
Pasty white guy is 2-0 over the ghetto boys since Friday.
I've gotten back all the money I lost to the punk thugs.
I'd like to say my experiences the last few days made me open minded and tolerant.
But, I can't.

501This morning as we were listening to WKHR out of Bainbride/Cleveland I told my my lovely wife we were likely among the few this day to hear "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" back to back with "Chattanooga Choo Choo" on any radio station.

Here's one of my good friends at the track ducking as his horse gets fractious after a 1/4 million dollar win in a Grade One on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Smiling Tiger.

Re: Idle Chatter
504OK, you're right, Rusty . I stepped over the line of 2011 political correctness with "ghetto boy" references. But I was I think rightfully p.o'd and facts are facts that my recent and earlier confrontations have been with persons of color. The two guys most recently were in white and red t-shirts which is a common uniform in street crimes around the country these days.
I hope it's OK with you if in the future I reference them as "gang bangers" because that is a law enforcement accepted term and most likely what they were.
I let it go and made it better in my own way, and thank any here who understood I was just doing some needed venting.

505I think that if there is one thing we can all agree upon is that the present forum is not racially prejudiced. No way, no how.
TFISC, your apology underscores it.

506All I know is that Corey and I are on a "baby feet" cookie marathon. We have to make around 600 baby feet short bread cookies for my niece 's baby shower this Sunday.

Just seeing a human succumbed to a grizzly earlier today in Yellowstone National Park.
No surprise, the couple chanced upon a mother and her cubs.

Re: Idle Chatter
510Thank God it was not my son. He went to N Dakota to hunt prairie dogs. He arrived in Yellowstone to visit with an old employee of mine that graduated from Restaurant Mgt school in Pittsburgh. She is now an assistant manager at some hotel at Yellowstone. Knowing my son he would have been chasing that grizzly.
