I see we just signed Chernoff's buddy Wil Venable to a one year deal. No indication of how much though. (Cleveland Indians to sign outfielder Will Venable, Mike Chernoff's college teammate, to minor league deal). What's that bring us up to now? $40 mil on 1-yr deals or close to it.

I see where Venable made $4.25 mil last year. We would certainly be pushing that $40 mil mark in 1-yr deals so far this year. I hope we don't keep hearing how poor this franchise is when they waste money like they do.

After the Chicago Cubs' re-signing of Dexter Fowler, Jorge Soler could lose playing time, and as such is drawing trade interest
DANIEL SHERRIFF
In Saturday's MLB storylines, Jorge Soler draws trade interest after the Cubs' outfield becomes more crowded, the Indians look for an answer to the hole in center field, and a few veterans find spring training homes.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler is still drawing trade interest around the league now that the Cubs have a crowded outfield. Catch up on that and more in today’s storylines around the MLB.
According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Chicago Cubs are still drawing significant trade interest on young outfielder Jorge Soler. Before this week, Soler was expected to be the everyday right fielder for the Cubs. But the surprise re-signing of Dexter Fowler and minor league signing of veteran Shane Victorino made the Cubs outfield picture very congested. Now Soler will most likely share time in left field with young slugger Kyle Schwarber. Soler might also find competition on playing time in the outfield from both Ben Zobrist and Javier Baez. Despite an overcrowded outfield, the Cubs are expected to keep Soler on the team for now, unless an overwhelming deal arrives at their doorstep. The young outfielder hit .262/.324/.399 last year with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.
Per Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago, the Cubs received trade offers from the Indians, Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres over the offseason for Jorge Soler. All potential trade offers involved both pitching and outfield prospects but the Cubs elected to keep Soler.
