It's fun. Looking for a needle in the Tribe farm haystack, not sure I've found one yet this year, unless it's Carlos Moncrief or Alex Monsalve

Early game is a winner for Columbus: 5-2 behind Corey Kluber with a decent outing for a change. 7 innings, 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walk and an uninspiring 3 strikeouts. Carlton Smith and Josh Judy with a shutout inning each. Cord Phelps with a pair of hits and of RBI. Ezequiel Carrera with a surprisng 2nd homer and 2 bi. Luis Valbuena scores 3 runs, walks, singles and doubles

Kinston off to a lousy start, trailing 4-0 in the 5th. Brett Brach not pitching very well. KTribe with 1 hit already, by Holt, big surprise.

Kluber is a better prospect than people like to give him credit for. He was solid last year and while he's gotten off to a rough start this year, he'll improve...

Kinston wound up losing 11-0, not quite as bad as the Royals, but since minor league baseball is really about developing prospects the real news of the night is that Adam Miller faced six hitters, retired them all, and struck out 3. He's still pitching only every four days and two innings at a time, but he's pitching which is big news in itself.

Whatever he is using, it's not working:

Minor leaguer suspended: Indians minor-league outfielder John Drennen has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for the banned substance Clomiphene.

Drennen was playing at Class AA Akron. His suspension begins immediately.

The left-handed hitting Drennen was the 33rd player taken overall in the 2005 draft. The Indians selected him as a compensation pick between the first and second round.

Clomiphene is a female fertility drug used to start ovulation.

Drennen was hitting .256 (30-for-117) with nine doubles, two triples, three homers and 15 RBI for Akron.

Ross Atkins, director of player development for the Indians, released this statement, "The Cleveland Indians strongly support Major League Baseball's Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. In addition to this support, we continue to implement an aggressive educational program at all levels of the organization. We want our players to be aware of the dangers of these substances and will continue to be vigilant in these matters."

That should be the end of Drennen's storied career.

Kinston the only team to beat the raindrops again, with a 4-3 win behind an OKish 6 innings from TJ House (8 hits and 4 walks but only 3 runs score) and a good day at the plate by Tyler Holt: a pair of doubles and a walk, he's now over 300 AVG and over 800 OPS.

Columbus got a game in today, losing 7-3, first AAA loss for Jeanmar Gomez, 4 runs in 5 innings. Another stinker inning for Eric Berger, 2 runs allowed, ERA up to 12.27. Phelps homers for the 6th time.

Chisenhall is hitting 275. OPS 807

Kipnis is hitting 274, OPS 821.

not too exciting in either case.

For some reason Steven Wright, age 26, is in the Lake County rotation. Pitching against kids about 6 years younger than him, he went 6 1-hit shoutout innings for a Captains 4-0 win.

Levon Washington with a pair of singles, a walk and a steal.
19-year-old SS Ronny Rodriguez in his second game delivers a single and double and makes an error.
Jesus Aguillar 2 hits.

Drew Pomeranz working for Kinston tonight. He's surrendered a run and fanned 2 in his first 2 innings. His team scored a run, which is rather unusual, and they're even 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd.

Chisenhall and Kipnis are both young. Don't be surprised if one or both needs more time in the minors next season. People are too eager to rush these kids to the big leagues...
