All those runs came off Buck Farmer who was much better in a spot start for the Tigers last week than for Toledo tonight

6-4 170 pound 19-year-old RHP Luis Jiminez has worked 5 innings and allowed 1 run so far today for our DSL team. That sounds like a physique that is likely to put on pounds so in theory he could be projected to throw harder than whatever he does now. For the summer he has an ERA of 1.69, K/IP is 38/49 which is not all that impressive.

Minor League No. 1 base stealer Gabriel Mejia with his 66th. I have not looked but I assume that bests any major leaguer, too, so he's merely No. 1 in all of organized ball. Mejia drew his 50th walk in 66 games today to best his 47 strikeouts. His XB hits are rare, 6 doubles and 5 triples in 300 plate appearances. Not a midget, he's 5-11, 160

Only other teams playing tonight are Lake County, just getting under way, and Arizona, starting in a couple hours. The Arizona team has 1st place record of 32-13. Certainly have not seen a Tribe first-year team with a record like that in ages, if ever(?)

Zimmer, Bradley and Papi can all hit. Sheffield and Hockin can pitch. Maybe someone from the lower rounds will pull an Allen and we'll have even more out of this draft, but the first returns certainly are impressive.

Rodriguez's 20th homer for Lake County puts him 2nd among Tribe minor leaguers in homers. Tony Gallas has 22 between Carolina and Akron. He is 6 years older than NRod. 22-yaer-old Giovanny Urshela has 18 between Akron and Columbus. Eric Haase's 1st at Carolina adds to his 16 with Lake County.
Last year the best we had was 17 from Carlos Moncrief [and from AAAA vet Jeremy Hermida]

2 more steals by G Mejia, that makes 68.
Arizona team was off. Mahoning Valley rested for the All Star break (Greg Allen and Tyler Murphy were both 0=2, F Mejia walked and was hit by a pitch; Sean Brady pitched a scoreless inning)
Ryan Merritt with his 13th win for Carolina, 1 run allowed in 7 innings. He was honored on the CL's Best Tools ranking as having the best changeup. Is he a prospect?

Ryan Merritt is 13-3 w/ 2.49 era.
Allowed 112 hits in 148 ip
Only 24 BB for a whip of 0.92
And those stats may have been before last nights impressive game.
Only thing that keeps me from being all over his jock is he only has 117 K in those 148 innings. And he is still in class A.
Wouldn't bet the house on him yet but put me down as definitely interested. Can't wait to see what he does against better competition next year in AA.

Agreed. I guess he's a soft-tossing lefty which sometimes works out, but often loses its lustre as it progresses up the ladder. I'll remember very fondly that paragon of the role Jason Jacome.

I want to think positively, so I'll compare him to Jamie Moyer.
