From a posting on Lets Go Tribe:

I took my daughter down to Pawtucket last night to see the Clippers, whose lineup was featuring the newly acquired James Ramsey and Zach Walters, in addition to Francisco Lindor, Jesus Aguilar, Giovanny Urshela, and Carlos Moncrief. The Clippers ended up getting mowed down most of the night by Red Sox pitching prospect Matt Barnes, who threw 7 no-hit innings with 10 Ks before being removed for pitch count (106) reasons. He dominated the Clippers lineup with a mix of fastballs (ranging from 91 to 97 MPH) and eventually more offspeed stuff.
A few first-hand reactions: •Lindor has incredibly quick hands at short. There was a play that didn’t result in a DP, but Lindor’s transition from glove to throw was insanely fast.
•Lindor had a throwing error that showed off the strength of his arm. He got to a ball deep in the hole between short and third and gunned the ball to first, ultimately sailing a bit high and forcing Aguilar off the bag. The steady rain during the game certainly didn’t help, but it was an impressive show of arm strength.
•Aguilar also had a throwing error, though on a reasonably athletic diving stop on a ball hit down the first base line. He looked adequate at first base, in general.
•Lindor’s approach at the plate is clean and quick. Very little extra motion in his hands, and a nice, compact, direct swing.
•Walters has a quick, but loopy swing. I can see how he gets so many Ks. But when he makes contact, I can see where his power comes from. Late in the game he drove a pitch deep to right center that would have been a HR on most nights, but last night got batted down by the wind and the rain.
•Walters made good plays on a couple of bullets hit to second. His range, especially going to his left, seemed limited. But his hands looked good at the position.
•Ramsey made a nice diving catch in center and showed a good batting eye at the plate
•The player I was most excited by was Moncrief. This was the first time I have seen him in person and he is built like a linebacker. He has some crazy hand action at the start of his swing that doesn’t do him any favors, but once he starts his forward action he has a quick, level, line-drive generating swing. (Red Sox prospect) Matt Barnes was chewing up the entire lineup on a steady diet of 93-97 fastballs, but Moncrief was the one guy who almost broke up his no-no effort. On a first-pitch 96 mph fastball Moncrief turned and drilled a line drive down the RF line that was foul by inches. Later in the game he actually did break up the no-hitter with another nice line drive hit. I’d really love to see him in Cleveland.
•I can see why Aguilar doesn’t generate as much power as you would expect given his size. His swing almost looks artificially compact. Aguilar stood out on the field and basepaths, though, as perhaps the most vocal member of the team.
•Urshela, sadly, didn’t really get any action in the field or at the plate.
• Vinnie Pestano was sitting at 88 with his fastball (#sadface)

If you have a chance to catch the Clippers in action during the next few weeks, I would highly recommend it. The team is loaded with future Tribe players.

Vinnie is gone now. For some reason the Angels wanted that 88 MPH fastball in their pen.

Holt and Walters are both expected with the Indians today as Murphy and Swisher are headed to the DL.

I love the year Urshela is having. He broke out like mad at the plate in Akron and has hardly missed a beat at Columbus. Always rated a star defender, he has something like 35 doubles, 6 triples and 15 homers this season, all career highs. Still doesn't walk a lot. Only 22 years old. He and Lindor could make a terrific defensive left side of any infield.

I was able to check the box scores and the BA prospect reports, but couldn't post while I was on vacation. Thanks for the welcome home party.

Is the congrats to my favorite 18 year old catcher in honor of making the All Star team?

Another of my favorites is Silento Sayles the Mississippi high school basestealing phenom who did little last summer but has upped his game on his return to Arizona. He still doesn't play every day but he spend a good deal of time listening to his coaches. Some signs of maturity: 17 walks in only 100 plate appearances, along with his 280 average give him an OBP of 396. Last season he drew 19 walks in 205 tries, he batted 186 and his OBP was 331.
Last year he was 5/8 in steals. In about half the games this season he is 14/15. Gabriel Mejia has an immense steal total but Sayles is competing against a better quality of opponents. Maybe we have two speed demon CF on the way.

And there's also Greg Allen. 21 year old with Mahoning Valley. Today a single, a walk and his 18th steal. His 19 walks match his 19 strikeouts. His steal ration is 17/21. His slash line is 268/383/338/721

F Mejia had a single for Scrappers today. They're being shutout 8-0 in the 9th. Recent pickup Nick Maronde looked good in his second rehab outing: 3-0-0-0-1-2

Clippers lose too. Lindor 0-5 hitting .208. Shawn Marcum is working out of the pen, 2 innings, 2 runs on Sunday. Singles for Aguillar, Moncrief and Ramsay (who also walked twice)

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.js ... x&sid=milb

Akron won 9-3. 2 hits for Alex Lavisky. But other than Alex and Ronnie Rodriguez and Jordan Smith this lineup is older than a lot of major league teams: 1 is 26, 3 are 27, 1 is 28 and Bryon LeHair is 31.

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.js ... x&sid=milb

Carolina finished a 14 inning game and played another of 9. Lost both. No one much on this team either. Yandy Diaz, our Cuban who BA reports Carolina League managers rated best defensive 3B for the 2 games had 2 hits and 5 walks; he has managed 1 homer for the season. Catcher Alex Monsalve total output was 2 hits and 3 walks.
Mike Clevenger the price we got for Vinnie Pestano debuted unimpressively: 3-4-3-3-1-1 home run

Lots of offense for Lake County in 12-6 win, some by prospects: Mike Papi single, double crosses the threshold: not battin 119. Paulino is double that at 238 with two singles. Clint Frazier's one hit for 6 tries was a 3 run double.
Good pitching by Luis Lugo who has been very erratic in everything except for strikeouts: 5-5-1-1-1-7. For the season: ERA is 5.43, but impressively he has 126 K vs 37 BB in 104 IP. 13 homers have not helped. that strikeout total is 1 off the league lead; that ERA total is 3rd worst.

Only Clippers played and they were shutout. Lindor with a couple hits.

Scrappers rained out after two innings, so a 2 run homer by Mejia doesn't count.

BA notes for the one game our guys played:

CLE AAA Aguilar, Jesus 1B 3 0 1 0 .283 BB (57)
CLE AAA Lindor, Francisco SS 4 0 2 0 .222
CLE AAA Moncrief, Carlos RF 4 0 1 0 .275 2B (27)
CLE AAA Ramsey, James LF 4 0 1 0 .205

Ooops I forget to look in Rookie ball:

CLE R Shane, Casey 5 2 1 0 3 1 2.81 W (4- 0). A pitcher! Wow, perhaps a real prospect, years away from Cleveland, however.

A Zimmer sighting! I thought he had been abducted by Bigfoot or something.

Anybody hear what injury he had?

4 hits by Lindor last two days. He needed that. His average had got down to about his weight. And unfortunately he's built more like Prince the singer, not Prince Fielder.

I sure agree about Mejia

As for Zimmer, he had injured his head banging into the Outfield fence last week and is back now.
