Dylan Baker could be done with his rehabbing, 3 more no-hit innings in Arizona with 5 strikeouts. Let's get him back to Carolina where his only start was 5 perfect innings.

Not just the Indians player of the day but the Minor League Pitcher of the Day:

PITCHER OF THE DAY: Adam Plutko, rhp — high Class A Carolina (Indians)

The 13th-rounder in 2013 from UCLA just doesn't walk anyone. Plutko blanked Lynchburg on four hits over six innings Thursday, although the Mudcats lost 2-1 late. He struck out five, walked no one and now has a 111/22 SO/BB rate across two levels this season. Not overpowering, the competitive righthander likes to pitch up despite an 87-91 mph fastball.

Only a Pirate pitcher bests Frazier on the Hot List.

2. Clint Frazier, cf, Indians

Team: low Class A Lake County (Midwest)
Age: 19
Why He’s Here: .571/.609/1.095 (12-for-21), 8 R, 1 3B, 3 HR, 7 RBIs, 2 BB, 5 SO, 1-for-1 SB [even when hot he fanned 5 of 23 trips to the plate]

The Scoop: After an adjustment early on, the 2013 first-rounder has been positively on fire in July, going 24-for-57 (.421) with five homers, a pair of doubles and a triple. The BA High School Player of the Year last year, Frazier has bat speed for days and tons of raw power. He’s 19 and coming off a mediocre first half (.699 OPS with 74 whiffs in 55 games), so there’s a lot of polish to apply, but weeks like this one are an excellent start.

Tribe scores again:

6. Adam Plutko, rhp, Indians
Adam Plutko

Team: high Class A Carolina (Carolina)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 1.29, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 9 SO, 1 BB

The Scoop: A polished product from the UCLA team that claimed the College World Series in 2013, Plutko has found great success this season with his mix of four solid pitches and excellent control. As would be expected, he dominated in the Midwest League and hasn’t missed a beat in his move to high Class A. He gives up his share of hits, but negates the damage by walking almost nobody. Between both levels this season, he’s fanned 111 against just 22 free passe

[It looks like BA is trying to make up for the obvious and poorly explained omission of Nellie Rodriguez last week]

And yet again:

12. Erik Gonzalez, ss, Indians
Erik Gonzalez

Team: high Class A Carolina (Carolina)
Age: 22.
Why He’s Here: .450/.455/.750 (9-for-20), 6 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 1 BB, 2 SO, 2-for-2 on SB

The Scoop: After spending the last part of the 2013 season in Carolina, Gonzalez has returned there this year and has built on his success. His defense hasn’t been the question, but he needs to show that he can hit enough to let his glove play. Gonzalez has slightly toned down the exaggerated step he uses as a timing mechanism to start his swing and he’s started to figure out how to use his solid-average speed on the basepaths

Q&A at BA:

Q: Indians have kept Lindor in Akron although Cabrera's free agency means the major league SS job should be open in 2015. Think he'll skip over AAA? Any reason to hold him back?

Ben Badler: A stopgap option is probably in play, not just to hold Lindor's clock back for service time reasons, but he could legitimately use some Triple-A time next year.
