Merritt 5 2/3 4 3 3 0 3. Not bad except it breaks his streak of two months without allowing more than 2 runs.
Brown 6 1/3 10 9 8 2 4. 6 runs in the 7th. Manager must have done to the bathroom and not noticed his pitcher was worn out.
Lovegrove 3 1/3 6 3 3 2 2

Tuesday box scores

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.js ... d=20140708

In the incomplete Carolina game LeVon Washington with his 3rd homer. He's stayed healthy for the longest stretch in his underachieving career. Average holding around .300. Cuban IF Yandy Diaz with a couple hits.

Dylan Baker finally returns after an April injury. He pitched 5 perfect innings his first time out for Carolina, then fell on the way out to the mound before his second start. Pitched 1 inning in Arizona, with 3 K and a homerun.
3rd baseman Nate Winfrey singled and doubled, 286 for 2014 draftee. SS Chang singled and walked, .343.

Scappers lose again (8-17). Zimmer sat out. Papi hasn't played yet. Allen with a walk and his 7th steal.

For Lake County, Frazier singled and walked. Nellie Rodriguez continues a good week with 2 hits, but also fans 3 times. Eric Haase takes back team lead with his 14th homer. Paulino singles, stuck at .238.

In Akron, former Tribe 1st draft picks in action: Lindor doubled, and made an error. Adam Miller a perfect inning.

Austin Adams making his case for promotion over Hagadone next time they need another reliever. 1 2/3 perfect with 2 strikeouts. In his last 10 games: 13 1/3 innings 5 hits 1 walk 0 runs 14 k.
Carlos Moncrief making a case too but with one remaining flaw. For the night: single, double, homer. For June and July 123-19-39-27 that means .317 average; 11 doubles and 6 homes in the period means SLG of 552. But K/BB is 30/6.

Dominican team wins a shutout. CF Gabriel Mejia singles twice, doubles, steals hi 36th, caught for the 9th time.

Nellie Rodriguez continues on his hot streak with another 2 run homer today. From July 4-July 9 he's gone 10-22 with 4 homers and 9 rbi. 14 HR total, catches Eric Haase for team high and organizational minor league high. Giovanny Urshela trails by 1 for his AA and AAA combined stats.

In day game for the Captains, Frazier adds a single and a double.
Jordan Milbrath with a busy 6 innings of 9-hit shutout ball.
Justin Brantley, Michael's cousin, with the win in relief, 2 innings, 3 K, no other marks in the book but a blown save.

With their 7th round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians selected outfielder Josh Schubert out of Calhoun High School (GA).

Born: 1/25/1994 – Height: 6’4” – Weight: 210 – Bats: Right – Throws: Right

Ranks:

Perfect Game: 257th
Baseball America: 151st

Tony's quick take: Another interesting pick by the Indians and now their fourth pick out of six picks on the second day of the draft on a prep player. He is listed with the last name of McAdams by MLB, but he is in the process of having his last name changed to Schubert and is already going by that name. He has impressive size at 6’4” and 215 pounds coming out of high school, and has some big power. His future is as a corner outfielder, maybe left field, and the power is certainly very intriguing, especially from the right side. There are some concerns with his hit tool and if he will be consistent enough to showcase that raw power as a professional, but you have to like toolsy and athletic players with upside at this point. Another interesting pickup for the Indians.

Jeff Ellis: Josh Mcadams, who is changing his name to Josh Schubert, is a big right handed outfielder and looks like what you want a right fielder to look like. He has a great arm and some definite power potential in his frame, and is viewed as a risk/reward player. His plus power is on display in batting practice, but the question is about his ability to hit. He needs some work at the plate to refine himself as a hitter, but the power is there and it is what excites teams. He has signed late to play at High Point and is considered very signable. As a bonus his profile is exactly what this system lacks in terms of depth. He is the second right handed risk/reward outfielder the Indians have gambled on today.

Press release: Batted .447 with six home runs, nine doubles and three triples to his team to a Region 7-AA title and a third-round state playoff appearance…Went 6-1 with a 2.68 ERA in his time on the mound…Signed to play baseball at High Point University (NC).

Civ.....You know what's up with Jose Ramirez? He's playing like every other game.
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”

It looks like he's playing more often than that:

Started one of the 2 games on July 10; July 8, 7, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1; June 30.

Had been on DL; occasional rest doesn't look unexpected. Haven't read anything about his health.

He's only 5-30 in July games, so maybe a little rest doesn't hurt.

Q and A at BA:

HI. WHO IS THE INDIANS BEST PROSPECT BESIDES LINDOR.
Vincent Lara-Cinisomo: Despite the hamstring injury that’s ruined his season, Clint Frazier remains their No. prospect. He still shows flashy tools in his plus-plus power potential and feel for the barrel.

I didn't even know about the hamstring thing. No wonder he's been less than stellar

Re: Minor Matters

My question with an inadequate answer; Rodriguez is younger than average for his league. And although he's not the highest prospect around this is a "Hot Sheet" not a prospect re-ranking as BA advises us each week.

Elliot (Youngstown OH): So we get Lebron back, but that doesn't make up for leaving Nellie Rodriguez off the list. All he did was go 26-9-12-12 with 2 doubles and five homers. 462/1115/1577. Northeast Ohio still gets no respect!

Vincent Lara-Cinisomo: Nelson, as other folks in the office can attest, was a late, cutting-room floor guy for the Hot Sheet. Sometimes factors such as age relative to league and prospect status take precedence. He’s a big, big dude, but scouts aren’t completely sold on the bat
