Fry drove in the first run, but left with elbow inflammation.
Bo replaced him a doubled and walked and is starting to look better at the plate.
Brother Josh with his 20th and a double and a single. He's also having a good rebound; his OPS as well as RBI are top among 1Bmen and deserves All Star consideration. I assume he'll finhish 3rd and not make the 2nd round but could be picked although they'll need to make room for all teams to be represented.
Kwan with his 3rd homer of the week, 7th for the season, a career high already and a single Battin 390. 10 at bats short of qualifying. He could make it by the end of the week; road games help, he has more change of getting 5th plate appearance when CLE hits in the 9th.

How much superior is Kwan to every other hitter? He's batting 390. Official AL leader Bobby Witt is hitting 311; he has 118 more at bats than steven and 20 more hits. To match that Kwan would have to hit .170. I think he could.
I'm guessing updated All Star voting will be announced tomorrow. Depsite all the recommendations from ESPN.com, MLB.com and Peter Gammons it is just possible that Kwan will surpass Kyle Tucker who is a fine slugger and is hitting only 122 points lower.
The way the voting works, If Kwan ranks among the top 5 OF's, Judge will make the team after round 1 and Kwan will fact off with Soto and Tucker and whoever finishes 5th in the second round.
At worst he'll be a sub but he certainly should be a starter.

JRod deserves credit for patently for working a bases loaded walk after fouling after half a dozen pitches. Not hitting much but working a lot of walks.

Schneeman is a hell of a player and will be a core player going forward !

Schneemann should have been the first Guardian to be promoted from the Clips, dare I say ahead of personal favorite Johnathan Rodriguez.

Guardians go left-on-left to beat Orioles, 3-2, for their 6th straight; José Ramírez’s 20th HR wins it

BALTIMORE -- When a team is facing a left-handed starter, it’s normal to load the lineup with right-handed hitters. The thinking is that a left-hander is going to have a tougher time against right-handed hitters than lefties.

But there are no absolutes in baseball.

Monday night the Guardians faced rookie left-hander Cade Povich at Camden Yards. Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt’s lineup featured seven left-handed hitters, including switch-hitter José Ramírez.

The strategy produced a 3-2 win over the powerful Orioles thanks to Ramírez’s leadoff homer in the sixth inning. The homer, which helped extend the G’s winning streak to six games, was one to remember.

It was Ramírez’s 20th of the season and 236th of his career. It tied him with Manny Ramirez for third place on Cleveland’s all-time homer list.

It also showed the Guardians can punch with the big boys in the American League East. The Orioles have lost four straight, but they won 101 games last year and have been hot on the Yankees’ trail all season in the AL East.

Vogt was operating on more than a hunch. Povich (0-2, 4.15) was making just his fourth big-league start, but he had reverse splits. That is, lefties were hitting .231 (3 for 13), while righties were hitting .178 (8 for 45) entering the game.

Cleveland’s three runs were driven in by hitters swinging from the left side of the plate -- two by Ramírez, one by Bo Naylor.

Beating the Orioles, of course, wasn’t a one-sided proposition. Tanner Bibee (6-2, 3.56) had something to do with it as well.

Bibee allowed two runs, one earned, in six innings in his first career start against the Orioles. He struck out seven to give him 30 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings over his last three starts.

So did the bullpen. Hunter Gaddis won an epic 13-pitch duel with Heston Kjerstad to end the eighth. Then Scott Barlow, with Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase unavailable after pitching four times in the last five games, struck out the side in order in the ninth for his second save.

The Guardians didn’t wait to put the heat on Povich.

Steven Kwan opened the game with a single and came around to score on a walk by Andrés Giménez and a single by Ramírez. Povich struck out Josh Naylor, but Giménez and Ramírez worked a double steal to put runners on second and third.

But Povich struck out David Fry and retired Will Brennan on a fly ball to center.

The Orioles applied the same kind of heat to Bibee.

Gunnar Henderson started the first with a double off the wall in right. Bibee struck out Adley Rutschman, but Ryan O’Hearn singled to center to score Henderson and tie the score 1-1.

The pressure continued as Bibee needed a strikeout of Jordan Westburg to end the inning with runners on second and third.

The Guardians made it 2-1 in the second on consecutive one-out doubles by Gabriel Arias and Bo Naylor, the No. 8 and No. 9 hitters in the lineup. Arias, just reinstated from the Family Medical Emergency list, was playing in his first game since June 12.

Bibee held the lead for an inning. He retired the Orioles in order in the second, but they didn’t stay silent long.

Rutschman doubled with one out in a third. O’Hearn sent a liner to first. Josh Naylor jumped for the ball, had it in his glove, but dropped it. O’Hearn reached first and Rutschman went to third on the error. Former Cleveland farmhand Anthony Santander followed with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the score at 2-2.

Before the game, Vogt told reporters that Santander had ruined a lot of games for the teams he played on. He proved to be prophet.

Cleveland rookie Daniel Schneemann tripled with one out in the fourth. Arias sent a fly ball to Santander along the right field foul line. Santander threw a bullet home to erase the sliding Schneemann at the plate and keep the score tied at 2.

Arias didn’t make it through his first game in 12 days. He was ejected by plate umpire Jeremy Riggs for arguing balls and strikes after striking out for the second out in the ninth.

Brayan Rocchio replaced him.

Povich allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Jose Ramirez and friends beat Orioles, 10-8, as Guardians win seventh straight

BALTIMORE -- Jose Ramirez once again put the Guardians in front, but it was the bottom of the lineup that kept them there.

Ramirez hit a three-run homer to stake the Guardians to a 8-4 lead. Bo Naylor and Gabriel Arias, hitting seventh and eighth in the lineup, added RBI singles in the eighth inning as the Guardians won their seventh straight game with a 10-8 victory over the Orioles at Camden.

The Orioles have lost five straight. It is their longest losing streak since 2022.

The Guardians, trailing 4-3, struck for five runs in the in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead.

Ramirez’s three-run homer with two out off Oriole starter Cole Irvin (6-4, 3.74) was the big hit of the inning. But the Guardians did some work before Ramirez hit his 21st homer of the season and his second in as many games.

Bo Naylor started the rally with a one out single. Gabriel Arias sent a tapper in front of the plate and James McCann tried to get Naylor at second. Naylor’s slide kicked the ball out of second baseman Jorge Mateo’s glove. Naylor went to third and Arias to second on the error.

Singles by Brayan Rocchio and Steven Kwan delivered Naylor and Arias to give Cleveland a 5-4 lead. Ramirez hit a 1-0 pitch 410 feet from Irvin.

But even a four-run lead wasn’t big enough for Logan Allen on Tuesday night.

James McCann and Colton Cowser opened the fourth with homer to make it 8-6. Pedro Avila relieved and ended the inning without further incident.

Baltimore made it 8-7 in the seventh when Gunnar Henderson scored on James McCann’s bases-loaded grounder to third. It was originally called a 5-4-3 play, which would have gotten the Guardians out of the inning. But the Orioles challenged and replays shorted that second baseman Andres Gimenez came off the bag at second after taking Ramirez’s throw.

McCann was out at first, but Henderson scored to make it a one-run game.

The Guardians pushed the lead to 10-7 with two runs in the eight. Bo Naylor, tripled home Tyler Freeman. It was Naylor’s first triple and third of of the game. Arias sent a liner that deflected off right-hander Yennier Cano’s glove and into right field to score Naylor for Cleveland’s 10th run.

Lefty Sam Hentges allowed a homer to Anthony Santander with two out in the eighth to make it 10-8 before ending the inning with a strikeout of Ryan O’Hearn. It was Santander’s 12th homer in June.

The Orioles finished with four homers.

Emmanuel Clase allowed a pinch-double to Cedric Mullins in the ninth before registering his 25th save in 28 chances.

It was a tough night for starting pitchers.

The Guardians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning for the second straight game against the Orioles. Ramirez doubled with two out against Irvin and scored on David Fry’s long double to right.

The Orioles came right back against Allen as Henderson homered with two out in the first for a 2-1 lead. It was Henderson’s 25th homer.

The Guardians responded to take a 3-2 lead on a two-run double by Arias in the second. Johnathan Rodriguez singled to start the inning and went to third on Bo Naylor’s double to right. Arias delivered both runs with a long drive off the outfield wall in left.

The Orioles made it 3-3 in their half of the second half of the second on Jorge Matteo’s leadoff triple and McCann’s single to past short with the infield pulled in.

Baltimore’s bid to take the lead fell short when McCann tried to score from first on Ryan Mountcastle’s double to the wall in center. Good relay work by Freeman and Gimenez, and a nice tag by Bo Naylor, erased McCann at the plate to keep the score tied at 3-3.

Allen could not stop the Orioles, who lead the big leagues in runs, homers and slugging percentage.

The Birds took a 4-3 lead in the third on Jordan Westburg’s two-run double that scored Henderson from first. But the Guardians weren’t done.

This was Allen’s second career start against the Orioles. Last year he threw seven scoreless innings against them in a 5-0 win. Tuesday night he allowed six runs on nine hits in three innings. Six of the nine hits went for extra bases including three homers.

Irvin allowed eight runs, four earned, on 10 hits in four innings.

WoW! Some damned good baseball we're seeing. I can't remember the last time I've seen this team or any team pound the ball as hard and as consistently as we've been seeing and the defense ain't been so bad either. The relief pitching has been exceptional and how scary would it be when we get finally get some consistently good starts from the rotation? The offense has been ignited by Kwan, Ramirez, and Naylor. The defense has been solid lead by Rocchio, Ramirez, and Geminez. Although the starting rotation has been suspect at the very least, the relief corps has come though in exemplary fashion. The aggressiveness by the offense, the way they attack the baseball and the way they place pressure on the defense is really fun to watch. I've seen countless forced errors by the opposing defenses as the offense continually puts on the pressure. Never heard of Vogt prior to his becoming the skipper in charge. He has energized this team in spectacular fashion. Confidence appears to be at an all time high right now. I'll take it and savor the moments.

I would expect to see Williams replace McKenzie. Carlos can be competitive, Triston looks lost.

It is amazing that we have 3 of 5 starters who are eminently replaceable while winning nearly 2/3 of our games.
I was looking into McKenzie's remaining minor league options a few days ago but didn't find the answer.

Gotta agree with Dennis, Civ. Triston looks lost. At least Allen can give us good start 1 out of 3 maybe 4 appearances.
