What an outstanding collection of rookie starting pitchers. All were rated highly coming in but it's still very surprising how effectively they have debuted. Only Allen needed a brief refresher in Columbus.
Not sure how to compare this trio with the past 123 years of Cleveland staffs; maybe rookies have totaled more wins collectively in another year when starters went longer, but number of starts, numbers of innings by the end of the season these guys could hold a club record.

Just think of where this club would be now if they hadn't all come along. In White Sox territory at best.
Not many years ago they had to force unprepared arms like Hentges and JC Mejia to the majors to fill gaps.

Nice DP throw by Brennan. Our OF might not hit for power but they certainly have power arms.

Guardians turn to Tanner Bibee in rematch vs. Tigers

The Detroit Tigers will get a look at another of the Guardians’ young starting pitchers on Saturday night when the teams continue their four-game series in Cleveland.

The fans in Cleveland, in turn, are likely to get their last look at old nemesis Miguel Cabrera.

The Tigers and Guardians split a doubleheader on Friday, with Detroit recording a 4-2 victory in the opener before Cleveland rallied for a 4-1 win in the nightcap.

On Saturday, the Guardians will send Tanner Bibee (9-2, 2.90 ERA) to the mound against the Tigers’ Matt Manning (4-4, 4.60) in a battle of right-handers.

Bibee will be the third of four consecutive rookie starting pitchers who Cleveland will throw against Detroit.

Guardians rookies Gavin Williams and Xzavion Curry pitched in Friday’s doubleheader, while first-year left-hander Logan Allen will start Sunday’s series finale.

Bibee, who may get consideration for Rookie of the Year honors, had the rockiest of his 19 starts of the season against the Tigers on May 8.

Detroit knocked Bibee around for four earned runs on seven hits in just 3 2/3 innings in a 6-2 loss that day. But ever since, Bibee has made his learning curve look pretty easy.

Bibee has won seven straight decisions, and his ERA of 1.82 since July 1 is the lowest in the American League in that span.

“They just keep rolling out there with these good young arms,” Detroit manager AJ Hinch told reporters. “They’re all a little different, and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of them in the upcoming years.”

Manning, who was sidelined from April 11 until late June with a fracture in his left foot, has been saddled with the loss in three of his last four starts. And his career numbers against Cleveland have been dire — he’s 0-2 with a 17.61 ERA, allowing 15 runs and 19 hits in 7 2/3 innings.

As for the Hall of Fame-bound Cabrera, either Saturday or Sunday likely will be his last game in Cleveland. He announced his retirement after this season.

For all of the damage Cabrera has done over his 21-year career, he’s done more of it in Cleveland than in any other city.

His 125 games in Cleveland are the most the 40-year-old Cabrera has played in a road ballpark. And Cleveland fans and players will be glad to say farewell, with respect.

Cabrera has a .309 career average with 50 homers and 176 RBIs against the Cleveland franchise. He has 26 homers, 89 RBIs and a .300 batting average in Cleveland.

“Let’s face it, there are some that are elite,” Guardians pitching coach Carl Willis said. “And let’s face it, Miggy has been that. Over a long career, I’ve not looked forward to competing against him, because he was so very, very good.

“And now, as he’s calling an end to his career, it’s kind of cool to think about what you recall and what you witnessed — one of the best right-handed hitters in the history of the game.”

Guardians one of the most boring offensive teams in MLB. Got to get rid of Straw during off season.

I don't think we need to get rid of him. 4th outfielder, defensive sub, pinch runner would actually be useful.

There are too many offensive disappointments to list but Brennan, Gimenez, (Amed and Josh Bell) all the catchers are a pretty good start.

Jose Ramirez has been trying to do too much and as such adds to the disappointing season list.

Josh Bell swats another big fly. Number 6 for the Marlins, number 17 on the season.

Just wondering what happens if we had Bell in the lineup hitting behind Ramirez in the Detroit series. Just say'n.

I've been watching the condensed games from Miami. Gotta say Josh is hitting the ball really hard.

Last 15 games:

AB 58
R 10
H 15
HR 5
RBI 9
BB 5
SO 19
AVG .260
OBP 317
SLG 569

There was plenty of time to shop Bell after the season ends (which it has now) but we didn't know the 58 at bats ago.

Just doesn't make sense to me that we trade Bell when we don't have a batter in the lineup that is a threat to put the ball in the seats.

I have to think that Bell makes a difference in the standings is he was still around.

Got to get rid of him because Francona will never not let him start. There is no way that Straw will not play. Plus Straw's best friend is Kwan who should be playing center but will not want to as long as Straw is around. Got to go !

Watch: Miguel Cabrera Hilariously Squares Up With Jose Ramirez

https://twitter.com/i/status/1693315567766094330

The Guardians organization honored the all-time great before they played the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon. Gabriel Arias , Brayan Rocchio , Andres Gimenez , and Jose Ramirez presented Cabrera with a customized guitar (because why wouldn't it be a guitar) just before the first pitch.

Miggy shook the hands of all the young players, but when he did something a little bit different when he got to Jose. Cabera jokingly put up his fists as if he wanted to fight Ramirez.

Obviously, this was a callback to when Ramirez punched Tim Anderson to the ground during their brawl a few weeks back.

Ramirez was trying not to crack a smile but everyone else around him couldn't contain their laughter.

Thor delivers quality start, bounceback outing vs. Dodgers

CLEVELAND -- In his last start, Guardians starter Noah Syndergaard said it felt like he was on ice skates on the mound, but on Tuesday night, he cruised through his first quality start since April 19. The icing on the cake? He made the tremendous leap forward against his former team.

Syndergaard seemed defeated in Cincinnati last week, openly admitting that it was difficult for him to enjoy anything in his life when his performance on the field was so below his standards. There’s no doubt that a start against the Dodgers, who he struggled with for more than two months at the beginning of the season and landed on their injured list to have a mental reset, carried extra weight to try to put these difficult memories in the past. And he delivered.

Syndergaard tossed six innings, allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in the Guardians' 8-3 victory over the Dodgers at Progressive Field. After the first inning, Syndergaard only allowed one run on two hits. Coming into the series, the Dodgers had won 17 of 19 games in August.

When Syndergaard exited the game, his team trailed by one run. But since he was able to keep the Dodgers at bay in his first quality start in 13 outings, he left the door open for the offense to make a comeback in the seventh inning. After a Steven Kwan RBI single to tie the game, José Ramírez (who was in a 0-for-12 skid entering the game) delivered a go-ahead RBI single before Kole Calhoun launched a three-run homer to put the contest out of reach.

Milwaukee knocks off the Twins. We pick up a game. We're out 5 games. Thor comes through big time. Only 1 game but it could be a start.
