I had forgotten that it REALLY wasn't Naylor's day.

He had guys on 1st and 3rd when he absolutely smokes a ball that Votto stabs and turns into a triple play thanks to the brain cramp by Eddie Rosario at 3B.

Once again 1-10 with runners in scoring position. For a team that dpoesn't strike out they registered 14.
An amazing 9th inning; that bonehead play perhaps unnerved Clase [like Buckner's which didn't really cost the game this won will be remembered far longer than what came next.

An overlooked problem with playing without a DH was that pinch hitters had to be saved for the pitchers [although McKenzie got a hit] and they had to keep sending Hedges up to the plate, where he naturally fanned 3 times [intentional walk once to get to McKenzie his only "blemish" on a perfect nighyt at the plate.

civ - even the next batter who drove in the run had a seeing eye hit!

So really, between the triple play fluke, the Buckner play, and the seeing eye stuff afterwards it was not their day.

Look - first I point out that Hedges made an amazing play throwing out that base stealer at 3B. If Naylor hadn't Buckner -ed that would have been the game saving play.

That said, Hedges swinging at pitches not even remotely near the plate is aggravating. The least he could do is be somewhat selective and collect a walk or 2.

I agree that Hedges belongs out there because he meets all the defensive criteria needed behind the plate. On most teams a guy with a hitting line of 050/150/150 would just be one dead spot in the lineup. We have so many dead spots that he almost does not stand out.

Bieber walked Naquin [that's not easy to do] and after a strike out walked another which is a probably a lifetime high for walks in an inning strikes out the next two

Jose homer gave the Indians a lead and the first run off Miley in 3 games.

I'd love to see something truly novel: three singles in a row to score a run. Like in the old days of baseball.

a 3 run homer is OK too. Roberto Perez's 3rd homer gives him 8 RBI matching Luplow Ramirez Reyes and ERosario

Reds on 2nd and 3rd with none out bottom of the 5th. grounder to 3rd for one out, runners have to hold.

Votto double halves the lead to 4-2.

and it stays that way. Naquin ends it with a fly out. 1 for his last 14 with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Is that the end of the New Naquin?

let's try to drive a run in again:

Reyes one out double; Eddie R pops up.

two innings back we had a lead off double followed by outs from Bieber (excused) Luplow and Hernandez [he has only 2 rbi]

and A Rosario flies out. Team is now 1-6 with RISP the 1 being the homer. Hardly an rbi single or double all season.

Biever with a nice quick 1-2-3 6th. He's still at only 77 pitches so he should go 8. Then give Clase a chance to make up for yesterday and don't bring in Naylor as a defensive replacement at 1st

after 5 straight strikeouts, Naquin breaks the streak with his 6th homer. Bieber finishes the 8th with his 13th strikeout.
