I gotta believe so Seagull. I think Perez struck a nerve or two or three.

After watching the highlights of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout this year, I'm wondering when and if the Indians will ever be in a position to draft/sign the likes of these two studs. Bryce Harper has one of the sweetest swings this side of Chris Chambliss.

Rafael Perez update:
The Indians are confident that left-hander Rafael Perez will be at full strength by the time next Spring Training arrives. That was not the case this spring, or in the six months that followed.

On Wednesday, Perez's season-long battle with an arm injury ended with an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his left shoulder. The surgery was performed by Dr. Craig Morgan in Delaware and will require a recovery period of two months.

"Everything went as expected," Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said of the 30-minute operation. "He'll initiate a throwing program in approximately two months and is expected to be full-go by Spring Training."

Perez, 30, first complained of shoulder soreness in Spring Training and landed on the 15-day disabled list on April 26 with a strained left lat muscle. The lefty posted a 3.52 ERA in eight April appearances, but displayed diminished velocity to go along with command issues.

Between the 2007-11 seasons, Perez went a combined 20-12 with a 3.61 ERA in 312 appearances for the Indians. The lefty avoided arbitration with the Tribe last offseason by inking a one-year deal worth $2.005 million. Perez will be eligible for arbitration for a final time this winter.

Perez appeared poised to return to Cleveland's bullpen in August, but he sprained his right ankle in an Aug. 11 rehab outing with Triple-A Columbus. In the weeks that followed, Perez again complained of shoulder discomfort, leading Cleveland to seek a possible solution via surgery.

Given the risky nature of shoulder procedures, the Indians wanted to try a conservative rehab program before having Perez undergo surgery.

"As durable as Raffy has been over the years," Soloff said, "it was really the first time he had ever had any shoulder symptoms."

Regarding announcers for the various teams, I would expect them to show partiality. Some, (Harrelson) carry it too far.

To be in "position" all it takes is having one of the worst records in baseball. We will be drafting about 6th next summer. We're in pretty good shape on that score.

Then there is the little matter of properly judging talent;
the second minor concern of being willing to pay for talent;
and the final trivial issue of being able to develop talent.

Acta has been fired, Santos is the interim manager.

MANNY ACTA WILL NOT RETURN AS INDIANS MANAGER IN 2013

Sandy Alomar named Interim Manager for final six games of the 2012 campaign

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced MANNY ACTA will not return as manager.
Manny Acta compiled a record of 214-266 (.446) over his three seasons after being named the 40th Manager in franchise history on October 25, 2009.

“The Cleveland Indians would like to thank Manny Acta for everything he has done for the organization in his three seasons as our Manager,” said Cleveland Indians Executive Vice President and General Manager CHRIS ANTONETTI. “Manny’s passion for the game, positive attitude and tremendous knowledge of baseball helped guide us to a number of high points during his tenure. Managerial changes are never easy or taken lightly, but as we approached the end of the season and turned our attention to assessing the year, we determined a change was necessary.”

“I have great respect for Manny and appreciate the effort he exhibited not only leading our team, but also the contributions he made in our community over the past three years,” said Cleveland Indians Chairman/CEO PAUL DOLAN. “I fully support Chris’ decision to make this change and am confident that he will lead a tireless search to find the right individual to lead the club to our ultimate goal of winning the World Series.”

The club has named SANDY ALOMAR Interim Manager for the final six games of the 2012 campaign. Alomar, 46, has been a member of the Cleveland Indians Major League coaching staff since 2010, serving as Bench Coach in 2011. The 2009 Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame inductee will manage the final six games of the 2012 season and will also be a candidate for the position during a search process that will begin immediately.

The rest of the coaching staff will remain intact through the end of the season.

Hope they hire Terry Francona.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Manny Acta has been fired as Indians manager, nearing the completion of his third year on the job.

Bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. has been named acting manager.


Also, The Plain Dealer has learned that President Mark Shapiro and GM Chris Antonetti will be back next year in their respective jobs.


This season the Indians spent 40 days in first place in the AL Central before the All-Star break. After the break, they went into a historic collapse, including a 5-24 record in August. Following their victory over Chicago on Wednesday, the Indians are 21-50 in the second half.
Acta has one year left on his contract. He finished his career with Cleveland with a record of 214-266 (.446) over his three seasons.

Alomar was a six-time All-Star catcher for the Indians. He has been on Acta's staff for the last three years. Alomar has never managed at any level.

Antonetti will hold a press conference at 4:15 today.

Still trying to figure out why with six games left.

Maybe the firings will be sequential rather than all at once.

Acta now....Antonetti next...then the Red Perm.

Then the coup de grace....Paul Dolan fires himself with his final words "Please daddy, get someone in here that knows what they're doing"

Somewhat sorry to see Acta go after Radinsky. Neither was entirely to blame. They were the makeup on the ugly front office face.

Still, some change had to occur. Just hope more is coming.
