Their pitching is pretty bad. But realistically, this is where the Indians make their gains against most teams. They throw a quality SP out every game and other teams often throw out crap. And now that our bullpen resembles a good one, those closer games come out better as well.

On another note - so glad to see Melky again with 3 hits so far. Rounding into form and taking that RF slot. And Brantley perking up lately again in LF.

It's that CF black hole (Greg Allen isn't injured yet is he??) that the front office is doublessly looking around the league at.

Driving to Florida Mon night. Listened to the Reds feed driving by. Reds announcer said the last relief guy had been a closer/position player in college. I was thinking, would there be any college that would use him as a closer throwing 65-75mph? Reds have used a couple position players as relievers and quite a few teams have also this year.

And this homer was right handed.

Said before his season was messed up with the late start and once he gets his feet under him he'll go back to the historical Melky (recently as last season!).

It's happening and RF is covered. Now for that pesky CF thing...

PS - really nice job by Greg Allen - not dissing him at all.

Hope Melky is for real. Takes a while to get back if you're out of the game for an extended period, whether from injury or in Melky's case, job offers.
Always worry about injured players trying to get back to where they were before the injury, like Miller.

Where's Martin?

That bacterial infection he had in his bloodstream was evidently very serious.

Would be very surprised, based on hints, if he is back at all this season.

Well, I wouldn’t go that far. RF is covered late in the game every night when the defensive replacement comes in to replace Melky. Cause he is terrible out there. Might as well play Yandy, IMO. But he has been hitting better for sure.

For the last two years, other than Bruce’s short stint, and even then too cause Brantley was out, it has taken 5 OF’ers to cover 3 positions. Even though Melky is a switch hitter we still need another guy for RF for defense. It’s pretty ridiculous. We need to settle those positions. And Brantley is a free agent, to make matters worse for next year. I guess we can look forward to 6 OF’ers on roster next year.

Last winter I was "sure" we'd sign a non-platoon qualify OF. I was wrong. This winter I am even more :'Sure" fwiw
Well, Melky is non platoon. But as HB said he qualifies for defensive replacement.

They put Guyer in for Melky last night, like they do pretty much every game now, and then Guyer got turned around and misplayed a ball into a double and almost cost us. Thankfully Allen is really coming along. Playing with much more confidence now. Being aggressive stealing bases when he gets on too.

What a great job by bullpen last night.
