My wife got a bit sentimental when she realized that by happenstance our kid walked across the stage together with the first girl she met on her first day of orientation at The University of Florida.

The girl was born in Yugoslovia, and her Mom and my wife were in regular communication during the first year. Her Mom was learning a bit about the US college experience with her first born, and was also learning much about American culture at the same time. My daughter and this girl were roommates the first year.

My remaining kid in college in Alabama is doing sort of a modified "freedom ride."

Well, not really, but he is hopping a bus to go try to help the tornado victims and damage in Tuscaloosa.

His finals all finished this past Monday and opted to take a couple days to go with some other Auburn students to Tuscaloosa to lend whatever cleanup hand they can. He's the same kid who went to the New Orleans area after Katrina.

I'd share more about him here now (and his girlfriend of the day), but my wife has them on her SLR and has not had opportunity to send them along yet.

Of all the pics my wife took the past few days, the one's she is most photographically proud of involve wild life. I had her on the end of the Naples FL pier as a number of dolphins opted to pay a raucous visit.

She has another photo she caught of a happy pelican who dove the surf and came out with a fish at least 12 inches long. We were casual dining (oysters and shrimp for .25 each and cold beer) on the roof of a tacky 8 story beachside motel) when we witnessed the National Geographic moment.

After securing his catch, the pelican flew above the 8 story motel circling us as if saying "look at me! look at what I caught."

At least the way I took it.
