The d-backs are roughing up Verlander with three opposite field hits including 3 doubles as the snakes turned a 2-0 deficit to a 3-2 advantage. The series we played in Arizona was for real if this game is any indication. The Diamondbacks are a very good opposite field hitting ball club.

Bouncing around the league, I noticed that the amount of opposite field base hits are outnumbering the amount of pulled hits. Not only that, a bunch of these hits were out of the strike zone. It appears that article I posted about a week or so ago has a lot of merit to it. The hitters are becoming better bad ball hitters and the pitchers are averaging about 1 out of every 9 pitches out of the strike zone or right on the corners.

The Tiger/D-Back looks like it might be worth while watching.

Miguel ties the game with another drive the opposite way doubles off the wall. Mahtook singled up the middle with the bases loaded for two runs. Tigers retake the lead 5-3.

McCann's homer that gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead was a blast the opposite way to right field.

10 hits in the game and 6 have been the opposite field variety and the game is only in the 5th inning.

The 11th hit is an opposite field double down the line by Drury. Owing drives one the opposite way to the wall for an out but advances Drury to third where he is stranded.

Tigers lead 5-3 end of 6.

Miguel drives one the opposite way to the wall in right but Peralta makes a nice leaping grab, takes a homer away from Cabrera.

D-Backs batting bottom of 7. Walk and a hit. Runners on first and second no outs. Peralta drives one the opposite way to the wall in left. Just misses a 3 run homer. Goldschmit drives one to the wall in straight away center advancing both runners with two out. Intentional walk loads the bases. Tomas fans.

End of 7 Tigers still lead 5-3.

Uncanny how well both of these team hit to the opposite field.

Upton with a solo homer to dead center. Ball finds the camera well opening in the wall.

Tigers pad the lead 6-3.

With one out in the bottom of the 8th, Owings singles the opposite way. Wild pitched to second. Stranded.

Tigers lead 6-3 after 8.

Machado leads off the Tiger 9th with a base hit to center. Victor follows with an opposite field hit to right. Romine sacrifices both runners to second and third. Iglesias grounds out to short. Runners hold. Two outs. Intentionally walked Cabrera to load the bases. Castellanos walks forcing in a run. 7-3. Upton fans leaving the bases loaded.

I haven't seen this one so far this year. With all of the opposite field hits and outs, neither team employed the shift. I guess that's one way to beat the shift.

D-Back go down in order in the 9th.

Final Tigers 7 D-Backs 3.

That was fun if you like controlled hitting. I didn't see anyone of these hitters that was not capable of hitting and using the entire field.

I wish we could hit this well as a team.

I guess Salazar doesn't like pitching with the lead?

Nope, he'd rather pitch from behind!

I don't know who to drop from the rotation when Kluber comes back, Salazar or Bauer. Neither one can spot their fastball and more often than not, both of these guys just try to get the ball over the plate as hard as they can. More often than not, the pitches are "fat". Zeke and Jose teed off on the fastballs down the heart of the plate.

Just when we get an early lead off a lefty, Salazar gives it back!

Yandy just misplayed an easy fly ball!
