A player to be named later cannot be on the 40 man roster.

That said someone will have to be dropped to make room for Thome or put someone on the 60 day DL which could be Hafner.

Players that have plate discipline like Weglarz usually have decent Major League careers. Problem is I don't think he will stay healthy long enough for that to matter.

Gotta say that Thome being rejuvenated and smacking the heck out of the ball and helping us make it to the playoffs and series would make up for a lot of frustration for being a Tribe fan for so long.

But I am a realist and worry about his back going out again.

If we just finish the season the way we started, winning 24 of the last 37, Tigers would have to win a huge 17 of their final 34 to stay even with us.

Not too many available. Indians have put claims on every RH bat that they thought could help. Including Coco Crisp.

Thome PC is scheduled at 4:45 PM.

Indians placed OF Michael Brantley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 23, with right wrist inflammation.
Josh Tomlin has also landed on the DL with a sore pitching elbow. Brantley has been bothered by the wrist off and on since the beginning of the month, and he hadn't played since Monday. It's not clear at this point if he has a shot to return when first eligible, which will be on September 7.
