Nice game last night!~ Rajai Davis brings back memories of Lofton. I was laughing n the first when he stole scond and then third! Fun to watch.

Fireworks were awesome too! Had a few drops but nothing to interfere with the fun.

Hillbilly, we ate at the new pizza place - Dante's. Really good! We recommend it. Lots of other new places too.

We plan to go to one more game - Sept 3.

UD, doh! I'm staying in a cabin in the mountains this weekend. I've only got to see a few innings of last couple games. (Place has no land phone, no cell phone, and no TV, but it does have wifi. Funny) so I missed a few runs in there. They're scoring so much it's hard to keep count!

I've already conceded on Napoli, where ya been?

I guess hiding in the same place Marlon Byrd has been since being busted for doping. I guess you think his signing was gold too?

Not going to call Davis a tie. Signings like Davis, Byrd, and Uribe is what drives me crazy about the Tribe. Like I've said a million times, they nickel and dime it with a bunch of guys like that, instead of spending the whole dollar on a stud.
Back in March, I did some math of my own:

Couldn't find contract status on five players.

I don't remember if there were more players not shown here.

I like the Napoli, Byrd, and Butler deals.

Davis ??? I'd like to give Naquin a shot

Actually, it's looking like Brantley has an excellent shot at starting on opening day. Forget Davis & Naquin ???

Uribe ???? I'd rather have Urshela.

Napoli 7 mil
Davis 5.2 mil
Uribe 4.7 mil
Hunter 2 mil
Cowgill 1 mil
Webb 1 mil
Stammens 1 mil
Venable 1.5 mil
Byrd 1 mil
Floyd 1 mil
Detwiler 1 mil
Thatcher 1 mil
Gorzelanny 1 mil
Manship .7 mil
Otero .5 mil
Yates ?
Robinson ?
Grossman ?
Butler ?
Chamberlain ?

Back to Hillbilly's theme on nickles, dimes, and studs, gotta say I'm on the same page.

Bottom line, I'd rather have Napoli and Rajai Davis than Todd Frazier. And who knows what Cincy wanted for him in talent??

Byrd, Uribe, you toss them away. That's what bottom scraping is - of course the majority of them are throw backs.

But this past offseason the bargain basement was pretty successful, FOR bargain hunting.

Meanwhile Frazier goes to a team that flushes another season. Oh, and his large contract for his Dave Kingman production has one more year on it.

You quoted .OBP, well Frazier's is .296, lower than Rajai's which is now .327 with his 31 steals in part time duty.

Ask the White Sox if they'd do it again, if they knew that they'd get .211 even with 31 dingers. Prospects, salary and they got that.

Meanwhile the Indians, fact is, the team got a HUGE bargain in Napoli, and a very nice bargain in Davis.

So no matter what anyone thinks of their strategy, THIS time their bargain hunting was pretty darn successful for bargain hunting.

And way more successful than if they had gone for Frazier IN A TRADE (way rather have our current 3B by the way) which would have cost them talent along with the bloated salary.

Also details, details, they are in first place.

At least give credit to the front office for nailing it pretty darn well this time. They held onto the starting pitching, and pretty darn wisely in retrospect. And picked up offensive pieces to help them into first place, even without that Brantley guy.

I'm not sure how that can be possibly argued. What they did....worked. What they didn't do, worked! Bottom line.

Their strategy was obvious. "Let's hold on to our starters, and take some shots at low risk guys". They did that, and it worked. I didn't say it always works, but it worked.

Party at Napoli's!!

Well! Jose is in a zone right now. Two out, two on, rbi double to center. That's not going to hurt his RISP numbers. 1-0 Tribe in the first.

Make that 3-0 on Chisenhall's two run base hit.

Jose extends his hitting streak to 17 games. The Tigers extended their losing streak to 5 games. Indians have a 5 game lead on the Tigers. Time for the rotation to snap out of their funk.

By the way, I certainly was in the camp that the team didn't have enough offense this year.

But at this point, at least I admit I was happily wrong. Good moves somehow made this lineup with a
chemistry that scores runs.

Leading the entire American League in steals doesn't hurt. And they have contact hitters who move those
good baserunners along and home.

Oh, and Naps to provide some pop now and again.

I agree TFIR! I'm still in shock!

TFIR, bottom line is right now we are what, second in runs scored in AL. So I know as of now I seem like an idiot. I just look at lineups for Texas, Toronto, Baltimore, Boston, and on paper I have a hard time believing we can get the pennant. But Lord knows I hope the chemistry thing keeps up and they continue making me look like an idiot.

We all want the same thing, another crack at a World Series. I hope we have enough. They are looking great right now.
