Loons go homer happy and cross the Captains 12-6. Cole Cook tagged for 3 bombs in 4 innings, 3 earned runs allowed. Tony Dischler allows only 1 homer among the 5 hits he surrenders in 1 2/3, also walks 5 and 7 runs score.

Nick Bartalone is out as SS after 4 errors. Troy Cannon takes his place and goes errorless and triples. Carlos Moncrief in CF triples but makes 2 errors. Alex Monsalve as DH with 3 hits, Jason Smit in RF with 3 of his won. Add pairs of hits by Jesus Aguillar, 1B, and Gio Urshela 19-year-old 3B inlcuding his 2nd double., he's hitting 438. Prepare to move Chisenhall across the diamond in 2014 to make room for Gio

INDIANAPOLIS - Bubba Bell received the last invitation to the party for the Clippers this season.

Acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox on March 31, the six-year minor-league veteran arrived in Huntington Park the day after an exhibition game with the parent Cleveland Indians had been snowed out.

"I walked to the home field for practice and it started to flurry again," Bell said. "I was like, 'Oh, my gosh.' It's not what you want to deal with the first couple of weeks of the season. Even if you square a ball up, it hurts your hands."

Fortunately, weather of a sunnier kind greeted his debut in the Clippers lineup yesterday in Victory Field. Bell counted two doubles among his four hits and helped the Clippers to a 7-5 win and a four-game series sweep of the Indianapolis Indians.

"It's great that the weather has been as nice as it has," said Bell, who started in right field.

The cash transaction that ended his six-year association with Boston did not come as a surprise.

"They told me coming into spring training that they wanted to try and get me into a better situation because they knew how road-blocked I was," said Bell, 28. "They told me they thought I deserved a shot somewhere. I'm happy to be here."

In winning their first four games of the season for the first time since 1980, the Clippers continued to hit the ball into the gaps and over the walls of spacious Victory Field.

Second baseman Cord Phelps did most of the damage with a pair of home runs. He drove a solo shot over the center-field wall in the fourth inning and added a three-run blast to right in the fifth.

Phelps, not known as a home-run hitter, is 8 for 17 to start the season and leads the team with seven RBI.

"It's obviously nice to hit two in a game," he said. "But as far as power goes, I guess I wouldn't characterize myself as a home-run hitter. But I'm definitely able to hit it out of the yard, just maybe not as often as some of the other guys can."

Zach McAllister (1-0) pitched the first five innings for the Clippers to earn the win. Zach Putnam worked the eighth and ninth to pick up his first triple-A save.

The team's mix of veterans and rising prospects is giving manager Mike Sarbaugh a lot of choices in making out the lineup.

"It's nice to have some versatility with (Bell) and Jerad Head," Sarbaugh said. "They both can play all three outfield positions. Jerad can play some infield, too. But to have some offensive thump off the bench is nice.

"Early on, it's always hard to get guys all the playing time that they want. But it will all play itself out. It was a good first game for Bubba, for sure. He's a tough out."

The Clippers open a two-game series tonight in Louisville against the Bats.

Clippers game postponed. Aeros scoreless after 3 with Matt Packer picking up where he left off last summer; Kinston down 1-0 after: Giovanny Soto with a fine Carolina League debut 2 runs, 7 strikeouts in 5 innings, and a homer allowed; Captains up 1-0 after 2-- Trey Haley back in Eastlake once again looks good at least for the 6 batters of the season, retired them all, 2 on strikes.

The reigning Midwest League champions gave the home crowd at Classic Park something else to cheer about in the Captains' home opener Monday night.

Three Lake County pitchers -- Trey Haley, Francisco Jimenez and Clayton Ehlert -- combined on the first no-hitter of the Minor League season in the Captains' 3-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons.

Former Indians second-rounder Haley started the game strong for Lake County, retiring the first six batters in order, but struggled in the third inning. The 20-year-old right-hander issuing a leadoff walk to Juan Duran and uncorked a wild pitch before fanning Jaren Matthews. After Duran stole third, Haley walked Tucker Barnhart to put runners on the corners.

Haley got Billy Hamilton to whiff for the second out, but he hit the backstop for the second time in the frame with Devin Lohman in the batter's box. That allowed Duran to score the Dragons' lone run. Haley got Lohman to fly out to right field, ending his night after reaching his pitch limit of 55.

Jimenez (1-0) took over in the fourth and struggled initially, walking leadoff batter Yorman Rodriguez. The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic induced a groundout that moved Rodriguez to second before catcher Alex Monsalve's passed ball put Rodriguez on third. Jimenez got David Vidal to fly to center fielder Carlos Moncrief, who nailed Rodriguez at home plate to end the frame.

"Carlos Moncrief made a tremendous throw home and Alex Monsalve blocked the plate well," Lake County pitching coach Jeff Harris said.

Jimenez settled down after that, retiring the side in order over the next three innings and striking out two before departing after the seventh. Harris praised the effort of the 5-foot-11 left-hander.

"He was just solid," he said. "He has a great feel for pitching, he knows what he wants to do out there. He threw everything where he wanted to and had a plan out there."

"We were looking more realistically at three innings, but four was a plus. He was cruising, his pitch count was low. He probably could have thrown another one or two more innings, he didn't want to come out. He did everything he needed to do. He gave us the length we needed in the middle of the game."

Ehlert was perfect over the game's final two innings for his second save of the season.

The early run really altered the perception of the staff, Harris said.

"I wasn't even thinking about a no-hitter, I was just focused on winning the game," he explained. "It was a little weird getting that run early in a tie game and that's probably why it didn't occur to me until later in the game."

The Captains received offensive contributions from 2010 12th-rounder Tyler Cannon, who hit his first homer of the season, while Monsalve reached base twice and drove in a run.
