As noted above, Cody has been untouchable since May 24. One base runner every couple innings. Whatever was wrong early on has been fixed.

I tend to overlook Shaw too and honestly didn't realize he's been so solid, too. No wonder our bullpen ERA now ranks near the top. The only real help it needs is with the left-handers.

Allen's velocity is up. I specifically remember when he was struggling early on his fastball was topping out around 93 and wondering what was wrong with him.
Today for example he was regularly hitting 96.

HB - I've heard it said, and it does make sense, that relievers/closers often start out slowly.
That's because spring training is for strengthening arms, and relievers get such small workloads. It takes them longer
to build up arm strength.

Tribe SPs in St. Pete during the 4-game sweep:
32.1 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 31 K (1.67 ERA)
If the Tribe is able to salvage something this season and compete, this past series might end up being the turning point.

I knew it, Hoynes continues sobbing for Kluber:
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Thursday was another good day for the Indians' starting rotation, but not as good as the previous three at Tropicana Field.
Was that because Corey Kluber was on the mound? Perhaps because the baseball gods continued to frown on last year's Cy Young winner. Kluber struck out 14 over eight innings, but he was not around when Mike Aviles opened the 10th inning with a first-pitch homer to complete a four-game sweep by the Indians over the Rays with a 5-4 victory.
[did he by any chance notice that Kluber was given a lead he couldn't hold? unlike Anderson, Salazar and Carrasco. In most of those other games the big offensive totals came late in the game and each starter had to hold on to a small margin, and did so successfully.]

Manaloff is amazed that Tampa scored 4 runs:
Quality work: Kluber allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and walked one. He threw 85 of 115 pitches for strikes. Kluber relied on a fastball/cutter/breaking pitch combination. Everything was nasty, so nasty that it is amazing the Rays scored four against him. Kluber capped a spectacular performance by Tribe starters in the series

Not saying that Kluber is no good, but especially if he's supposed to be the ace and has such nasty stuff he has to hold leads and post an ERA way better than the 3.8 he's been steadily maintating.

I agree Kluber can't cry today because he didn't hold that lead.
Get this:
@kevnbaseball: The Indians are 34-32 against teams other than the Tigers.
The Tigers are 30-36 against teams other than the Indians.

Bauer only managed 3 perfect innings, as opposed to the 5 we've come accustomed to. I'm not sure he'll keep his spot in the rotation if he keeps this crap up.

And that Pirate got a hit on the 66th pitch in the 6th inning.
and pitch 67 into a double play.

I love them talking about Bauers different pitching stances on every pitch......

Hilarious at-bat by Bauer. Maybe it was a psychological ploy; he did work the walk.

That really was hilarious. Great job by Bauer.
He copied Aviles, Kipnis and Raburn's batting quirks in that same at bat.
Never seen anything like that. The guys in the dugout were cracking up!
